    Title: A Wanted Man
    Subtitle: Jack Reacher 17
    Author: Lee Child
    Narrator: Jeff Harding
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 50 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-30-12
    Publisher: Random House Audiobooks
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 141 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
When you're as big and rough as Jack Reacher - and you have a badly-set, freshly-busted nose patched with silver duct tape - it isn't easy to hitch a ride. But Reacher has some unfinished business in Virginia, so he doesn't quit. And at last, he's picked up by three strangers - two men and a woman. But within minutes it becomes clear they're all lying about everything - and then they run into a police roadblock on the highway. There has been an incident, and the cops are looking for the bad guys....
Will they get through because the three are innocent? Or because the three are now four? Is Reacher just a decoy?
With his signature Swiss-watch plotting and heart-thumping suspense, A Wanted Man shows Lee Child at his sublimely skilful best.
    Critic Reviews:
He could take out Bond, Dirty Harry, Jason Bourne and Ethan Hunt with both hands tied behind his back. And then sleep with their girlfriends two at a time before getting the last bus out of town (Sun)

Good to see Reacher is back
If you could sum up A Wanted Man in three words, what would they be?
    A wanted read
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, always something happening, some good twists and turns.
Which character as performed by Jeff Harding was your favorite?
    Jack Reacher
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    N/A
    Any additional comments?
Reacher books are good, but I think Lee is getting carried away with the scene and history descriptions that sometimes appear to go on with no actual relevance to the rest of the story. Sounds a little picky i know, but the first books in the series weren't as bad as they are now. Not bad, but you know what I mean.... :-)
A bit of a story arc for Reacher now...and this is a goodie
The story had enough unpredictability to be edge-of-seat material, and Reacher is in his prime.
Jeff Harding IS Jack Reacher for me - his resonant slightly nasal voice drives the vocal performance - listen to an early Reacher story narrated by someone else and Reacher somehow shrinks and gets softer. A great match!
A back on form Reacher - a very good listen
Typical format with new scenery, Jack must need a holiday by now. I did enjoy this though and I found myself lingering in the car park so that I could hear a little more... I am still clearly hooked on Reacher.
    Great
I love this series. Intricate plot. Fantastic characters. Great final twist. Jack Reacher Rules. O.K. More please Mr Child.
    Great first half, faulterin slightly
If youve listened to books by Lee Child before, how does this one compare?
This a great listen, sections of it being amongst the best Lee Child has done. The opening section of the book, from the point where Reacher accept a lift hitchhiking, to the point he eventually leaves the car, is fantastically tense and intriguing. Both Child and Reacher are in their element here: a tightly controlled environment, with three strangers to suss out and very little to go on, and the dawning realisation that no one in the car is telling the truth... Child's meticulous description of environment and people, Reacher's methodical, pin-sharp throught-narrative, play out fantastically as he tries to get to grips with the mysterious situation. The parallel narrative of a FBI murder investigation interplays very very with Reacher's story as we begin to understand how the events are connected.

    Title: Escape Artist
Subtitle: A Robin Monarch Short Story
    Author: Mark Sullivan
    Narrator: Jeff Gurner
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 6 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-23-12
    Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 109 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Mark Sullivan, the co-author of James Pattersons Private Games, has, in Robin Monarch, created a compelling new hero. Monarch is a world-class thief and a highly skilled operative - a man with skills, a rigid code of honor, powerful friends and implacable enemies.
In Escape Artist, Monarchs abilities - and his nerve - are both tested when he takes on an impossible mission to stop an assassination plot thats about to unfold, when all anyone knows for certain is the target. To save the diplomat who is in the crosshairs, Monarch must arranged to be locked up in a foreign prison, so that he can get close enough to the one person who knows the details of the assassin's plans. Then, once he learns those details, Monarch must escape from that high security prison in time to thwart the killer.
Robin Monarch - called one of the most compelling heroes since Jason Bourne (Lisa Gardner) - is introduced in this chilling, nerve-wracking story. Presented with a special excerpt from Rogue, the first Robin Monarch novel, coming in Fall of 2012.
    Critic Reviews:
"A compelling, page-turning blend of spy and caper fiction: it's Robin Hood for the twenty-first century. (Jeff Abbott)

    Great
Always like Robin Monarch and the slick way he accomplishes his missions! Always very entertaining.
    Short but very satisfying.
Read my review of Brotherhood. DITTO it. These are excellent stories packed with a solid, fast moving and interesting story lines.
OK, but not well written or narrated.
This 2 hour novella best serves as Mark Sullivan's introduction to both the teenage Robin Monarch and Robin Monarch the CIA agent. At that it is effective especially as it shows the beginning of Monarchs late teen move from pure street crime in Argentina to beginning to turn his life around.
On the negative side the interweaving of the two stories with constant changes from one to the other can distract the listener especially when using the same narrator for both. As a fan of both the author and the narrator I find this and the other two Robin Monarch novellas disappointing. Yet as an introduction to the Robin Monarch series the novellas are worthwhile.
    Keep Monarch coming!!!
Would you listen to Escape Artist again? Why?
    Yes, because of the intensity.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Robin Monarch because he show his weakness and strength.
What does Jeff Gurner bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Jeff Gurner is excellent and brings the characters to lilfe
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes
    Audio virgin
Where does Escape Artist rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This was my first audio book
What other book might you compare Escape Artist to and why?

Have you listened to any of Jeff Gurners other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was a first and he did a great job

    Publisher's Summary:
A Presidential dynasty. An Arab terrorist attack. Democracy under siege. Mario Puzo envisioned it all in his eerily prescient 1991 novel, The Fourth K.
President Francis Xavier Kennedy is elected to office, in large part, thanks to the legacy of his forebears - good looks, privilege, and wealth - and is the very embodiment of youthful optimism. Too soon, however, he is beaten down by the political process, and disabused of his ideals, he becomes a leader totally unlike what he has been before.
When his daughter becomes a pawn in a brutal terrorist plot, Kennedy, who has obsessively kept alive the memory of his uncles assassinations, activates all his power to retaliate in a series of violent measures. As the explosive events unfold, the world and those closest to him look on with both awe and horror.

    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best-selling author Larry Bonds Dangerous Ground, starring Navy Lieutenant Commander Jerry Mitchell, was hailed as a hugely entertaining adventure by Library Journal. In Exit Plan, Mitchells crew is ordered to the Iranian coast for a mission to retrieve intelligence on Irans nuclear weapons. But while en route, their mini-sub catches fire, forcing Mitchell and four SEALs to swim to shore - and into enemy territory.
    Critic Reviews:
The technothriller has a new ace and his name is Larry Bond. (Tom Clancy)
    Members Reviews:
    Larry Bond is Back!
This is the first of Larry Bond's novels I have been able to finish since his original First Team. Exit Plan has the power and suspense, without getting bogged down in extraneous and unimportant distractions. Bond should continue to sail it alone, as his solely written works are much more appealing to me than those which he wrote with other partners!
    Excellence at its best!!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a very written and detailed book - step by step the author draws you in.
What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Dick Hill has has the perfect voice and cadance for this book
    Slow starter...
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
When I'm in the mood for a techno thriller I like them to start fast and be loaded with action. Exit Plan just wasn't it. I don't think a shot was fired until about chapter 12 or so.
What was most disappointing about Larry Bonds story?
Too long for build up and not very well done at that. I never found any of the characters interesting or compelling, I barely could remember their names
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
His characterization was not convincing, Character voices sounded overly contrived and unnatural.
What character would you cut from Exit Plan?
Bond could have eliminated the characters (too forgettable to remember names) who were trying to rekindle their romance. It had nothing to do with the plot of the story.
    Any additional comments?
This was my first Larry Bond book. I've read all of Clancy, and most by Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, and Harold Coyle. This type of book works best for me when it is fast pace where the action starts early and keeps coming. Exit Plan just didn't have those elements.
Navy SEALS in Iran = Good Times!
First off, this book has A TON of technical jargon in it. 9 times out of 10 that screams "Oh, look at what a knowledgeable author I am!!", but here it's not terribly annoying. There are about 4 storylines running throughout the book--- only 2 of which you'll actually be interested in. Bond's storytelling abilities are just good enough to keep you awake.
Overall, the story is somewhat believable, EXCEPT for a few small holes... like the fact that Bond wants you to believe that there are ZERO operational helicopters in all of Iran! (Believe me, had the author included a few Iranian helicopters, the story would've turned out VERY differently)
The characters are not all that deep, or compelling. When they die, you don't care. What really keeps you listening is the ACTION. After the SEALS make it to Iran, it's pretty much a roller coaster ride (when that storyline is being focused on). If you can make it through the numerous slow parts, the ending does have a very good payoff.
The narrator is OK, not great.

    Whaaaaaaat?
What was most disappointing about Peter Straubs story?
It sounded more like a comedy, except for the graphic rape scene.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He sounded like Scrappy (Scooby-doo's owner)!!!!
    Any additional comments?
    Very disappointed! Thriller?! Nah!
Peter Straub at his post Blue Rose best.
This is easily one of my favorite mystery thrillers of all time. It's a great story, but more than usually detailed, so make sure you have time to pay attention and really enjoy it.
    Incredibly Detailed
This book is incredibly detailed with many character introductions and long, descriptive prose. It is a beautiful example of a modern gothic novel but the intricacies do not translate to audiobook as well as I would have liked. I listen to audiobooks and dramas in the car while I drive for my job and I kept missing details. This is definitely a book for a rainy night at home or the coffee shop where distractions are at a minimum.
That said the performance was spectacular and the book sets a macabre mood that makes it great fun to read.
    Please, don't buy this!
Would you try another book from Peter Straub and/or Patrick Lawlor?
I have read other Peter Straub that I enjoyed, otherwise I would say NO!
What do you think your next listen will be?
    How do I know?
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator was nasal, flat and emotionless. Absolutely the wrong voice for the story.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
All the above. The men were horrible abusive misogynists, the women were weak, damaged, and way to willing to put up these horrible men.
    Any additional comments?
This is not something I would expected from Peter Strab.
    Is this necessary?
What disappointed you about The Hellfire Club?
I don't like reading graphic descriptions of sexual assault. I like Straub -"Shadowland" was amazing-but this book made me feel ill.

    Publisher's Summary:
Carmilla, Queen of the Night, is a shape-shifting raven whose fictional exploits thrill girls all over the world. When tweens in Chicagos Carmilla Club hold an initiation ritual in an abandoned cemetery, they stumble on an actual corpse, a man stabbed through the heart in a vampire-style slaying. The girls include daughters of some of Chicagos most powerful families: the grandfather of one, Chaim Salanter, is among the worlds wealthiest men; the mother of another, Sophy Durango, is running for the United States Senate. For V. I. Warshawski, the questions multiply faster than the answers. Is the killing linked to a hostile media campaign against Sophy Durango? Or to Chaim Salanters childhood in Nazi-occupied Lithuania? As V.I. struggles to answer these questions, she finds herself fighting enemies who are no less terrifying for being all too human.
    Members Reviews:
    Another interesting story from Paretsky
Susan Ericksen did a good job narrating the story and giving just the right amount of the flip attitude of V. I. Warshawski. Paretsky gives us a bit of Chicago history and a descriptive view of the city. The use of young girls book club as the underpinnings of the story was interesting. Warshawski's having to research into Lithuanian history under the Nazi was interesting. Lots of suspense and nail-biting moments in the story that moves right along. I disagree with the prior reviewer as many books have either right or left wing politics in the stories and as long as it fits into the story line it is acceptable but if the politics over helms the story line I then object. Fans of Paretsky will enjoy this book as she still has her skill with a story.
    Paretsky vision lives on
The mystery here is almost secondary to the development of possibilities. Although that can be awkward, these possibilities were sufficiently intriguing to keep me involved and to feel as though I did not waste my time. I felt particularly sad about the loss of Vi's friend. I wanted more stories about the two of them and more resolutions that would reflect her value in the lives she touched. As always, I had a bit of a hard time with the denoument. I wish Paretsky could wrap these stories up in other ways than what I now see is a standard trick for forcing self incrimination and resolution of the loose ends. Still, I always look forward to my next Paretsky book. I always appreciate the greatness of her scope.
    Political correctness...really?
As usual, Paretsky is an amazing story teller & keeps you on the edge of your seat with this mystery! But the great narration by Susan Ericksen, one of the all-time best readers, is what keeps you listening!! If it hadn't been for her, I might have stopped listening way back at the beginning when all the political issues of gays, immigration & the evils of wealth started! Political correctness...really??? I listen to have a break from all that! Even Paretsky's own characters don't fall into a group of all bad/hateful or all good/wonderful depending on their politics! The Tolerant are Not always accepting & it gets Very Old!!!
Rich Detail but the Conclusion Left Me a Bit Flat
Would you listen to Breakdown again? Why?
    Perhaps.

This ranks in my top ten.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Puller, of course, we my favourite character.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
It was delightful that there were both a male and female narrators, but the male narrator did the best job of distinguishing his different characters.

    Cozy English Meets Amish Mystery
I enjoyed this book as an easy summer listen. Positive, happy in the face of difficulties, and strong community feelings empower this light story that engages but does not stress the listener. I really enjoy quilt shops and quilting so I could relate easily to the background story. If you are not interested in quilting you might not find enough here to hold your interest. As always I like Pam Wards reading style--she does a good job evoking the country homey tone of the book. Glad I gave it a try.
    Easy and funny listening
The characters in this book were blended so well and written so clearly that they really came to life for me. The performance was so well executed I found myself laughing part of the time just by her delivery.

I enjoyed the entire book. While the narrator did a good job with the story and characters, her voice sounds much older than the main characters age. My mind kept picturing the main character in her 50's or 60's, rather than in her late 20's. A case of character and voice don't match.
    Wonderful Cozy Amish Listen
Callie is a young widow who comes to Shippshewanna after her beloved aunt dies. Auntie owned a quilt shop and several Amish women are reliant upon her to sell their quilts. One of the women has a significant need for the funds as she has a child with a rare illness. Callie is a spunky woman from a big city in Texas suddenly in small town Indiana. A real fish out of water. But as the story progresses one senses she was a goldfish swimming in the ocean who needed to be in a tank, required the cozy closeness that provided. Lovely job of dropping that into the story over time. The Amish quilters are lovely women, each with distinct voices that are also unlike most other Amish stories I have heard.
Callie hasnt gotten over the loss of her husband, in fact doesnt even share this with her new friends until very late in the book. She is an endearing character despite her prickly behavior, which furthers the story line, especially when she becomes the prime suspect in a murder. This is not a romance but there are a couple of romantic possibilities.

    Deadly as!
In Deadly Decisions Bones is caught up in an investigation of biker gangs. Her nephew is caught in the middle, Andrew Ryan is arrested for drug dealing, and Tempe is being stalked by a dangerous killer. A great read by Kathy Reichs and Lorelei King delivers a good performance of the audiobook.
    A good story line.
Have you listened to any of Lorelei Kings other performances before? How does this one compare?
I really like Lorelei King as a reader. Her voice is great and she changes characters with ease.
    Any additional comments?
Quite a good story. At first was a little slow but got going and was really good. I recommend it.
    Brennan at her best
Once again Kathy Reichs delivers a gritty story with all the tension and excitement of an action thriller. Would a forensic anthropologist get so involved? Probably not. But Tempe's search for the truth ensures she takes a roller coaster ride in the real world of guns and bikers.
    love these!
Brennan finds herself digging in a bikers back yard. her nephew Kit is in town but not well ng the whole story. and Andrew Ryan has gone completely off the rails
Can't go wrong with this author.
It's Kathy Reichs, so you can't really go wrong with this author, adding in one of the best narrators and this makes for a good story.
