    Publisher's Summary:
On a frozen January night, a young man loops one end of a long rope over the branch of a tree. The other end he ties around his neck. A snowmobiler will find him 36 hours later, his lifeless eyes staring out at the endless coldwater of Lake Superior. It happens in a lonely corner of the Upper Peninsula, in a place they call Misery Bay, a good 250 miles west of Paradise.
Alex McKnight does not know this young man, and he wont even hear about the suicide until two months later, when the door to the Glasgow Inn opens and the last person Alex would ever expect comes walking inside to ask for his help.
What seems like a simple quest to find a few answers will turn into a nightmare of sudden violence and bloody revenge, and a race against time to catch a ruthless and methodical killer. Alex McKnight knows all about evil, of course, having faced down a madman who killed his partner and left a bullet next to his heart. Mobsters, drug dealers, hitmen - hes seen them all and theyve taken away almost everything hes ever loved. But none of that could ever prepare him for the darkness hes about to enter....

    Boring
When I'm choosing to read an entertaining book, not a classic or non-fiction, just a fun, light read, I expect to be entertained, surprised, and at least occasionally on the edge of my seat. Misery Bay did none of that for me. The one "twist" was slow in developing, obvious, and clunky. There was no action, no suspense.
I liked the main character, I was rooting for him, but even the friendship and the romance that were possibilities were, well, I just say "lame" so I don't spoil anything.
My favorite character was his friend who works in the movie theater and there wasn't enough of him.
    Disappointing.
    Great story- riveting
What did you love best about Misery Bay?
This was a new author for me- I really enjoyed both the story AND the narration! Didn't want to go into work some mornings because I was at a tense moment....
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes
    Not Boring
A good mystery from the start. My first listen by Steven Hamilton. It was a nicely paced mystery and the ending pulled all the pieces together well. I purchased it on sale and it was worth the time. Dan John Miller does a good job narrating and is a good fit for the main character. I can see why people like this series.
The Best Entry of the Alex McKnight Series
Misery Bay is an outstanding novel. Steve Hamilton is at the top of his game here, and the narration by Dan John Miller is also excellent. I have enjoyed all of the Alex McKnight books, although I would rate the majority of this series as "4 stars" (out of 5).
Misery Bay is the exception. I have actually both listened to and read this novel, which is something that I rarely do. Mr. Hamilton's ability to use the UP setting in Michigan to help set the tone of the story is quite impressive, and the supporting characters are very well developed. Sheriff Roy Maven is one of the most memorable characters that I have come across in a long time, and Mr. Miller does an outstanding job with narrating the Sheriff's dialogue. To some degree, the police investigation is actually a subplot to the central theme of this novel - the relationship between Maven and McKnight, and how their friendship develops in the face of adversity.

    Title: The Delta Solution
    Author: Patrick Robinson
    Narrator: Peter Berkrot
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 12 hrs and 34 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-03-11
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 198 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
The Delta Solution is an action-packed novel pitting Navy SEAL Mack Bedford (from Diamondhead and Intercept) against the Somali pirates operating off the southerly reaches of the lawless East African republic on the Indian Ocean. For the past three years, these heavily armed tribal brigands have been capturing and holding for ransom massive cargo ships, and violently demanding millions of dollars for their return. When the "Somali Marines" make a big mistake, seizing at gunpoint two United States ships and demanding a $15 million ransom for their return, hero Mack Bedford is deployed to obliterate them in the middle of the Indian Ocean, at all costs, once and for all.
    Members Reviews:
Good story but needs editing, 33% too long
Patrick Robinson loves the US Navy seals. I dont remember one of his books where they are not in some way the star of the novel. In Delta Solution, pirates from Somalia are nabbing boats like fishing in a stocked pond catch, ransom and release. The US Navy is impotent to do anything about until the Delta Solution headed by Mack Bedford rolls onto the scene.
The narration is done by Peter Berkot who does an acceptably average job on with inflections and accepts. Here is the rub with this book, its at least two ship seizures too long and drags in the middle causing the enough already response. At one point, I wound up listening at 2X speed just to get the story moving. I am a strong Robinson fan but he has lost his voice since the Arnold Morgan series which ended badly the terrorists ultimately getting what they wanted there too. I am going to the read the fourth book, but if he doesnt turn the corner, I think it's the end of the line for Patrick Robinson.
I will never get that time back again
I would hazard that Mr. Robinson has some ghost writers. If this was the first of his books I ever read, I would never listen to another one. However his early stuff is brilliant. This was US ra ra rubbish. Mack Bedford and his bullet proof SEAL's are over blown to the max, I mean really give me a break. Since when do Muslim pirates eat ham sandwiches. As far as Peter Berkrot's reading went it was over played and really annoying. Somebody should edit these narrators and give them the proper pronunciation of some fairly basic seagoing terms like how to pronounce bow as in bow of a ship not a bow and arrow you putz. don't waste your money on this one.
This book is more or less just propaganda.
What would have made The Delta Solution better?
It seems to me be a book just praising the US armed forces and especially SEAL's.
I got the impression after a few minutes that the book was produced as propaganda for the US, and scrapped it.
What could Patrick Robinson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
    Not write it at all.
Which character as performed by Peter Berkrot was your favorite?
I only listened a few minutes before giving up.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Delta Solution?
    At least the first chapter
    Worst seal book I've read
I agree with other reviewers in their disappointment with this book. I have read just about every seal book available and am usually riveted. The author seemed to need to tell me how impressed I should be, again and again. There was very little story or action. Lots of unnecessary verbiage and honking of seal horns.

When Nobel laureate Liam Connor is found dead at the bottom of one of Ithaca, New Yorks famous gorges, his research collaborator, Cornell professor of nanoscience Jake Sterling, refuses to believe it was suicide. Editorial Reviews:
The opening of Paul McEuen's freshman novel Spiral throws you a bit. It hits you hard with guns blazing, WWII soldiers fighting for their lives, explosions, and lots of blood and twitching body parts flying around. He reminds you right away just how high the stakes are in this tale of biological warfare and international intrigue. Yet as soon as the action returns to the present day, Spiral proves to be a whole different kind of story. Dr. Liam Conner, who witnessed the original WWII drama, has become a kindly old, respected professor of nanscience and a doting great-grandfather. His brilliant granddaughter is a slow track mom who puts her family relationships above all else. For all its grand apocalyptic themes, this is a surprisingly intimate narrative full of beautifully written characters and personal interactions tied together around our main protagonist Jake Sterling. It's the literary equivalent of a good date movie. Sure its got gene splicing, slimy killer fungus, high-stakes chases, and some really cool killer nanobots; however, it also ties all of this around a group of well-written characters you really become invested in.
Rob Shapiro's narration is smooth, polished, and nicely balanced. His deep voice carries the suspense well, especially in the parts where a grisly death could await around every corner. Yet he shows a lot of sensitivity portraying the various relationships as well. He reminds you that a really good narrator tends to blend seamlessly into the background in the service of the story telling. It's not so much the screams and explosions that get to you here; its the whisper in your ear that raises the hair on the back of your neck.
"Fungus Amungus" is a rallying cry that carries throughout the story, and also underlies the key threat.

    Some excellent stories
Some excellent stories. However, this should really come into the Abridged section as having read the original physical book there are at 2 stories missing from the original book, There Are No Snakes in Ireland is one (in my opinion the best from the original book) and Duty. If these were included it would get 5 stars from me.
    No Comebacks By Frederick Forsyth
Normally I do not like short stories, however this book is a collection of short stories that go from good to incredible. The Emperor and The Careful Man are stories that make life worth living no matter how rough life is going.
    Dave
    Audiobook incomplete!!
A couple of stories missing from the audiobook, unexpected from Audible, wasted 1 credit for the month !!
Narrated brilliantly however, no complaints on the author or narrator.
Not all of the stories in the book are here.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Where was the story-There Are No Snakes in Ireland? It is in my copy of the book but was not on the audio.
    A great short story collection
    Any additional comments?
I enjoy a good short story and find very few great collections. Here is a great one, with excellent plots and twists. All the tales are good and a couple stand out. 'A Careful Man' and 'The Emperor' are memorable.

What if it were possible that your most cherished memories were lies... and that finding out the truth could cost you your life?
Richard Kilmer is head over heels in love with Jennifer Ryan, who takes him home to meet her parents, where she accepts his marriage proposal. While visiting, they set out on a nostalgic drive up to Kendrick Falls. On their way, a freak storm rolls in, Richard loses control of his car, and it rolls. When the storm clears in a matter of seconds, Jen is gone. Richard can't find her, and neither can the police who respond to the scene. More horrifying is that no one in Richard's life will even confirm Jen's existence, and all traces of her have disappeared.
Where could she be? Has Richard lost his mind, or has something far worse happened? On Borrowed Time is a stunning new thriller about an ordinary man who is trapped in a nightmare where he can't be certain of anything--not even his own memories.

    Not enough dogs!
A bit of a departure for Rosenfelt. I'm so used to the Andy Carpenter/Grover Gardner combo that this came as a bit of a surprise, but it was a good read.
The premise was fascinating, and despite an inevitable disappointment in its resolution, I was very keen to see it through. And I didn't guess the twist, even though I was looking out for it.
Nice work by the narrator, Chris Ensweiler. Seamless and unnoticeable like all good narration.
    New Cast of Characters
On Borrowed Time started slow and confusiing and then kicked into high gear and finished strong. It certainly kept me guessing. I wonder if we will see this cast of characters in the future.. I liked the line "I could eat the air"
    Bravo
    A Thoroughly Good Read!
Would you listen to On Borrowed Time again? Why?
I would indeed. This was a unique book in several ways. The book held my interest and gave me several hours of pure listening pleasure. I re-read books I enjoy quite often. This will be one of the ones I listen to again.
Which character as performed by Chris Ensweiler was your favorite?
    The main character.
    Any additional comments?
A very different plot here...unique...fresh! The storyline absolutely held you in its grip all the way through.
Not on a par with the Tara series
What did you like best about On Borrowed Time? What did you like least?
I liked the somewhat different plot line. I didn't like that much of the story line was, to me, not plausible. I kept thinking, is this guy really that stupid?
If youve listened to books by David Rosenfelt before, how does this one compare?
Not on a par with the writing nor the narration of the Tara series, but a decent attempt at a different style for Rosenfelt.
What three words best describe Chris Ensweilers performance?
    Amateur, trying, lacking
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes. I think a movie producer could fix the broken parts.
    Any additional comments?
I love conspiracy theories, but I don't care much for stupid main characters. The lead character fell for too many outrageous coincidences, and brother, is he naive when it comes to women. I won't include any spoilers, but you will be shaking your head at some of the things he falls for in this book. The narrator is trying hard but his voices are very lacking, especially his bad guys who all sound phony. There was one point where he did a good job so that I recognized a particular bad guy when he spoke from behind.

    Members Reviews:
    excellent
Definitely a good listen. Larry Bond does a good job of brining you into the world. However, it is too short and I wanted to book to continue at the end.
Could This Be Dragged Out Any Further?
Book 1 was great! A great read.
Book 2 picks up where Book 1 left off, but they still aren't out of Vietnam and (without giving anything else away) the pace of the story slows down to a crawl. Still interesting, but I was beginning to get annoyed.
To me, some of there characters acted differently from what was established in the first book as well. Some suddenly became dumber, some suddenly spoke Vietnamese fluently when they had issues before, etc.
Anyway, it was interesting enough that I'll still give the 3rd book a try. I hope the pace of the story picks up a bit!
    Tremendous series!
This series is worthy of recognition rivaling or surpassing that of Tom Clancy. Bond & DeFelice have outdone themselves!
    put me to sleep
disjointed, unclear the purpose, no good ending.
I wouldn't recommend it. I have enjoyed other books from this author - I would recommend Red Phoenix

    Mystery with humor and insight
A great mix of mystery, humor and insight. I also enjoyed the setting -- near London's Hyde Park.
    Genius narrative
Lovely story with real characters and lots of nice twists and turns. I feel like I get a sense of each character and they are just a bunch of names that are thrown at me..true Rendell at her best
    Another enjoyable story, great characters
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Ruth Rendall creates characters you enjoy meeting, if only because of their quirky natures. This is another that pulls you into the story of their lives, and makes you want to find out what happens to them next.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was Roman, the homeless man, who suffered such an incredible loss, but maintained his humanity, even on the streets. I enjoyed reading to find out what he would make of himself.
What about Simon Russell Beales performance did you like?
He has a good voice for the characters, but I had to keep adjusting the volume because he would occasionally read more softly.
Good and clever, as they say a page turner
Would you try another book from Ruth Rendell and/or Simon Russell Beale?
Ruth Rendell yes I remember I read some younger but there are so many good writers.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Keys to the Street?
The way the author handles the abused person and the bully.
What three words best describe Simon Russell Beales voice?
    pleasant in character
Do you think The Keys to the Street needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
not necessarily, I think the main character has had enough adventure.
    Any additional comments?
Compared to lots of others the sound was bad. As if copied from tape. Somehow muffled.
    Rendell is always good
What did you love best about The Keys to the Street?
The story involves the setting and makes you live in the park
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
You know something is wrong but you can not guess what
    Which scene was your favorite?
Return to the park by Mary with dog
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Three months have passed since Richard Jury was left bereft and guilt- ridden after his lover's tragic auto accident, and he is now more wary than ever. He is deeply suspicious when requested on a case far out of his jurisdiction in an outlying village, where a young woman has been murdered behind the local pub. The only witness is the establishment's black cat, who gives neither crook nor clue as to the girl's identity or her killer's.
Identifying the girl becomes tricky when she's recognized as both the shy local librarian and a posh city escort, and Jury must use all his wits and intuition to determine the connection to subsequent escort murders.
Meanwhile, Jury's nemesis, Harry Johnson, continues to goad Jury down a dangerous path. And Johnson, along with the imperturbable dog Mungo, just may be the key to it all.
Written with Martha Grimes' trademark insight and grace, The Black Cat signals the thrilling return of her greatest character. The superintendent is a man possessed of prodigious analytical gifts and charm, yet vulnerable in the most perplexing ways.

Thoroughly Enjoyed Latest Edition to Series
First, this was my first exposure to a Richard Jury mystery and the writer Martha Grimes. She is extremely prolific and has a huge portfolio of works in print. I found the mystery very engaging and complex. Jury is drawn sparsely in this book, there are numerous call-backs to prior books, in particular The Old Wine Shades, that reintroduce characters. I found the flashbacks fair and transparent and did not suffer from not reading this 21 volume series. I feel like the narration was perfect and showed good versatility with the numerous characters. I would very much like to see key books of this series produced and released on Audible. This genre of mystery is often called, "Cozy Mysteries" due to the English pubs, small town feeling and emphasis on a less than high tech modern environment. This novel received marginal reviews in hardback form; but the rating on the audio version are quite good. This, in my opinion, is where an audio book becomes more than the flat page and actually enlivens the experience by creating a momentum of plot.
This is a very skillfully done book by a writer that is meticulous in making sure the clues and characters come forward in good form. Finally, there is a dog, Mungo and his friend, Morris, the cat that have telepathic conversations and play into the plot. They almost steal the show. This is a very entertaining listen.
    Un-listenable
What disappointed you about The Black Cat?
I don't know what was more unbearable: the conversations between the dog Mungo and the cat Morris, the endless descriptions of designer shoes and dresses (with prices), or the rushed reading by John Lee. After an hour or two I had to quit. Having listened to 15 previous Martha Grimes Richard Jury books, charmingly crafted and beautifully read by
Steve West, I found The Black Cat a huge disappointment.
What could Martha Grimes have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Not bothered to write this story and not trusted John Lee to read it.
Would you be willing to try another one of John Lees performances?
    Never!
    You didnt love this book...

So begins the sequel to Peter Temple's best-selling masterpiece, The Broken Shore, winner of the Gold Dagger for Best Crime Award.
Villani's life is his work. It is his identity, his calling, his touchstone. But now, over a few sweltering summer days, as fires burn across the state and his superiors and colleagues scheme and jostle, he finds all the certainties of his life are crumbling. Truth is a novel about a man, a family, a city. It is about violence, murder, love, corruption, honor and deceit. And it is about truth.

    Masterpiece
If "The Broken Shore" was Temple's evolution from the world of hard-boiled crime fiction to poignant crime drama, then "Truth" is his evolution from poignant crime drama to crime epic masterpiece. No longer content with small settings and particular crimes, with "Truth" Temple takes on the institutions charged with fighting crimes - the police, state politics and the money men behind the politicians. What emerges is a complex narrative that follows the head of the Victorian state homicide unit as he tries to negotiate the continuance of his career amongst a crumbling family life and a case with too many political implications. "Truth" paints a very vivid portrait of the crime scene in Victoria, and those responsible for policing homicides - and in that way stands out far above its contemporaries in Australian crime fiction more interested in police procedurals or unstoppable private investigators. Highly recommended for those of you who watched and enjoyed "The Wire".
    wonderful writing on every level
More than just a crime novel, this work is a literary classic. Beleivable characters, supurb plot but best of all, the most creative use of dialogue you could imagine. Temple says as much in a few words as others do in a chapter. Having driven for nearly 4 hours, I parked my car around the corner of my house and sat there listening to the last two hours of this book. Absolutely brilliant
    Gritty, dark and utterly brilliant!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes and without hesitation. A thriller with NO unbelievable characters, NO implausible plots with gaping holes and NO quarter given in the relentless impact of the language used and the sheer grit of the delicious Aussie prose. Peter Temple is wonderful and so is Michael Carmen the narrator. What an unbeatable combination.
What other book might you compare Truth to, and why?
So hard to find any other books to compare with Peter Temple. He writes in such a distinctly 'different' way to any other author. For sheer quality of this genre, I would look to James Lee Burke and his Dave Robicheaux novels narrated by Will Patton or James Ellroy.
What about Michael Carmans performance did you like?
I loved the whole presentation of this book by a very, very talented narrator.
