    Bone Pit
Keeps you wondering what's around the corner. Suspense at every word. I won't give away the plot.
    The bone pit
This novel was great. Good story content, it definatly kept my attention. Thanks so much for a great read .
    Awful narration
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Another narrator. I actually got the ebook because I was interested in the story but absolutely could not listen to this narrator.
Would you recommend Bone Pit to your friends? Why or why not?
Not the audio book. Not with this narration.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The main female character is narrated in the style of a woman who speaks and thinks every word as though she is shouting "surprise!!!!!" at a birthday party and her voice gets stuck that way. She would have been a great character for a Seinfeld episode.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The book itself may be good and interesting. I will have to update my review when I finish reading it. The audiobook was a no-go however.

Brace yourselves Nick Stone fans; we're off to Panama. And this time Nick's 'adopted' daughter Kelly's life hangs in the balance and depends solely on his ability to succeed in his mission.
This instalment was great. I enjoyed listening to his jungle survival tactics and hearing his disposal of the pure scum that often infests it..!
Great fourth book. Long live the Nick Stone series!
    A good listen
I would recommend it. it's a good story, helped distract me and pass the time
    An OK story
have enjoyed more from Andy's books. Not as much excitement as others I've read. Saying that, a plausible tale.
Good, but a bit slow at times
Well narrated, and a good overall story, but just not exactly as action packed as I like..

    Spoilt by performance
Where does The Dinosaur Feather rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Worth looking at other books by the author - but not necessarily if they are spoken by the same person
What did you like best about this story?
Interesting characters and good story line
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
No - it was very slow and stagey at times and then rushed through the complex details which made it difficult to take in
    Any additional comments?
    Slow to start
    Overly dramatic performance spoils it
Whilst the dinosaur/bird basis for the story was different, albeit a bit of a red herring, the amount of character padding had me confused. Nevertheless, the overall plot was quite enjoyable. What spoilt it for me was the overdramatic performance of the narrator. Every time Annabelle featured I thought a nervous breakdown was about to ensue, both from her and me.
    Too long and drawn out
What disappointed you about The Dinosaur Feather?
The plot sounded interesting but in the end it was so long and drawn out that I lost interest. I also struggled with the narrator but persevered. Finally the main female character was so irritating (either stroppy or blubbing) I found myself secretly hoping that someone would do her in to put me out of my misery.
What could Sissel-Jo Gazan and Charlotte Barslund (translator) have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Less unnecessary detail and side plots.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kristin Milwards performances?
    Probably not.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Dinosaur Feather?
Much of the private life of Professor Freeman and Anna Bella's early days.
    Any additional comments?
Interesting plot let down by too much detail that slowed the pace of the novel way too much for me.

    I didn't see that coming!!!!
Would you consider the audio edition of The God Complex: A Thriller to be better than the print version?
The audio version of this book is well narrated.
What other book might you compare The God Complex: A Thriller to and why?
I have 4 other books from the same author. Each one is held my attention until the very end.
Have you listened to any of Adam Verners other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've never heard of this particular narrator before.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Building a new home.......
    Any additional comments?
I was so glad Audible picked up this author. I hope they will make more of his books available.
    Interesting and Very Twisting Plot
What did you love best about The God Complex: A Thriller?
This was my first book from Murray McDonald. It was interesting and caught my attention from very early on. Just when I thought I had it figured out there would be a major twist in the plot. It kept me guessing. What an ending!
He had plenty of humor. Great blend of thriller and sci-fi. I wish more writers would do this.
The narration was good and varied well between the characters. I would listen to Adam Verner again.
    Tricky!
Where does The God Complex: A Thriller rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Not in the top 10, but maybe the top 25. A tricky, rather interesting and compelling offering, that has several unanticipated plot twists and turns.
Would you recommend The God Complex: A Thriller to your friends? Why or why not?
Certainly to other audio book fans.
What does Adam Verner bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Definitely one of the better performances of the years. Brought the characters to life, and owned the story
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really extreme, but certainly kept my interest, and I did have some chuckles and eyebrow raises.
    Any additional comments?
This book definitely sneaks up on the listener, and comes with enough wrinkles and twists to keep the story fresh and engaging. Recommended highly
    intriguing
was good story that was able to mesh the impossible to be believable look forward to another book from author
Good sci fi but bad thriller
The overarching alien concept in the story is new and refreshing, and gives a new perspective to most things we assume in life.
But the screenplay is unexciting. The protagonists have it way too easy, are unusually lucky and seem to have supernormal power that borders on a kids fantasy story. A few disappointments thrown in for the lead characters would have made the story a lot more realistic
    Narration was top notch.

"This is far and above the best small/independently published novel I have ever had the pleasure of reading." (The Kindle Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
WOW! A great crime story set in the 1940s
I just finished Mark Dawsons The Black Mile and all I can say is WOW! I wasnt sure what to expect at first with this book, since it was a different genre from the other books of Dawsons I had read (the Beatrix Rose series). There are many things I love about this novel.
First the actual story is compelling. Too often authors are so interested in creating an action packed thriller that they forget that a compelling, believable story is also required. No amount of action takes the place of a good story. Mark Dawson did an awesome job of carefully introducing you to each of the characters, establishing their particular thread of the story, then weaving it all nicely together. Each of the characters threads are interesting and I quickly began wondering how all of these characters related to each other. The story moved along at the right pace as the separate parts of the story came together.
Second the language. The story is set in World War II and Mr. Dawson did an excellent job of using language, word choice, etc. and it made me feel as though I was reading actual news accounts of what was happening in the story. In many cases I found myself enjoying how well written the story was as much as the story itself. I cant say that about many books I read these days.
Third The suspense, tension, and twists in the story. For a book set in WWII, I didnt expect to be at the edge of my seat. Although the pace in the story is reflective of life in the 1940s, I was surprised at how much tension the author was able to create.and what was revealed at the end took my by surprise.
Finally, the narration of the story was great. The narrators voice was easy to listen to and I could generally tell the difference between the characters. The only challenge for this narrator was creating convincing female voices. Maybe next time the addition of a second narrator for the female voices would make sense.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

    Members Reviews:
    Entirely Unique, Entirely Unbelievable
First, the good stuff... The mystery revolves around a dark family secret that is revealed in the first few chapters. It's an entirely unique twist on the serial killer angle. The characters are well developed and distinct.
The narrator, Dan John Miller, has a great voice for reading. Several of the characters were exceptionally performed. However, his take on one of the main characters, Matt, is whiny and so irritating I cringed in every scene. Ditto with his female voices. It was an extremely schizophrenic performance.
As for the story, it revolves around three key characters, the Chief, Matt (Chief's grandson), and Matt's girlfriend Samantha. The Chief, retired chief of police, is a remarkable and unforgettable character. He reminds me of Clint Eastwood's character in Gran Torino. And it must be said that the narrator nailed his voice on a 5 star level.
Matt, however, is a whiny, self serving jackass with virtually no redeeming value. The combination of his horrible character and the whiny voice all but ruined the story.
Samantha is an extremely attractive character despite the bad narration, but there is no good reason she should have been involved with a loser like Matt. Ever!
So here's my plug, listen if you want to hear a truly unique tale of a serial killer. Otherwise, stay away.
Not quite a total waste of time
The Butcher is a serial killer story. I'll be kind and say the novel is disappointing.
    Excellent and Original
Would you listen to The Butcher again? Why?
Yes. I will wait for a few years though.
Which character as performed by Dan John Miller was your favorite?
The narrator did a good job with Edward.
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this story. It was creepy, funny, thought provoking and had some romance that blended well with the whole story.I just bought another book by the author and can not wait to listen!
On another note, I would rather have less acting by the narrators.

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
A family is hunted by a centuries-old monster: A man with a relentless obsession who can take on any identity.
The String Diaries opens with Hannah frantically driving through the night - her daughter asleep in the back, her husband bleeding out in the seat beside her. In the trunk of the car rests a cache of diaries dating back 200 years, tied and retied with strings through generations. The diaries carry the rules for survival that have been handed down from mother to daughter since the 19th century. But how can Hannah escape an enemy with the ability to look and sound like the people she loves?
Stephen Lloyd Jones' debut novel is a sweeping thriller that extends from the present day, to Oxford in the 1970s, to Hungary at the turn of the 19th century, all tracing back to a man from an ancient royal family with a consuming passion - a boy who can change his shape, insert himself into the intimate lives of his victims, and destroy them.
If Hannah fails to end the chase now, her daughter is next in line. Only Hannah can decide how much she is willing to sacrifice to finally put a centuries-old curse to rest.
    Critic Reviews:
"I have never read a book with such frenzied impatience. The String Diaries is unputdownable. Stephen Lloyd Jones has written a debut novel as frightening and layered as Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian and as clever and riveting as Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code." (Benjamin Percy, author of Red Moon, The Wilding and Refresh, Refresh)
"With The String Diaries, Stephen Lloyd Jones has created a new mythology of the monstrous to rival Stoker's or Shelley's. Grounded in the real world and populated by characters we believe in, this is a book of magic for the doubtful, a fantastic tale for skeptics, at once transporting and convincing." (Andrew Pyper, author of The Demonologist)
"This novel is a breakneck chase down a long and winding road with the devil sitting beside you in the car." (Ben Loory, author of Stories for Nighttime and Some for the Day)

    THIS BOOK!
Pulled me in and I couldn't stop listening. Yet I didn't want it to end! Looking forward to reading more from this creative author.
    Great Story...Horrid Delivery
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes! But I might recommend it to them to read rather than to listen. The story is amazing but the way the narrator speaks is distracting.
What did you like best about this story?
The story line has a different twist. You immediately feel empathy for the characters but you are not sure why. As you are taken back and forth through time and different characters a sort of puzzle evolves that makes you want to read on to find the answers.
How could the performance have been better?
The delivery is distracting. Ms Whelan makes sort of a smacking sound when she inhales mid sentence. At first I thought it was the way a character would speak but it is throughout the whole narration. It got to be an irritation and distracted me every time I heard her throughout the book.

    Publisher's Summary:
A chilling psychological thriller that explores the menacing evil behind the glittering facades of Manhattan's skyscrapers.
Kay Norris, a successful and lovely book editor, moves into the posh Carnegie Hall district of Manhattan, into an apartment in a slender high-rise. A man watches her. He watches her unpack, watches her make her bed. He owns the building: A shocking secret is concealed within its brick and concrete.
Sliver is a sinuous erotic thriller, a hypnotic story of obsession, suspense, and stunning surprises. It is a novel about the ultimate power, and the temptations the use of that power brings.

Disappointing story line and boring narration
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I had expected a better story line given this book was written by the famous Ira Levin. But the story line is unbelievably predictable and drags on too much. The boring narration does not help either. If you have insomnia, this book is a perfect sleeping pill for you.
Has Sliver turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes, so far I have read two books by Ira Levin. I will discontinue my interest in his books after this one.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Soneela Nankani?
Either Jeffwoodman or Tom Taylorson or Paul Boehmer would narrate better than Soneela Nankani!
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    None whatsoever!
    A Favorite of Mine
Th classic "what would you do" scenario and a favorite of mine. Ira Levin is so clever with unique circumstances and storylines.
    Fantastic
I love Ira Levin. His female main characters are always awesome, and I especially enjoyed this strong main character. The psychological aspect is chilling. Loved it.
