What a great Series for Cat Lovers & Mystery Hounds
I have enjoyed this series from book 1. This book does not disappoint.
Several murders to solve, break in's, the press, and a dis functional family. This all keeps this book moving at a can't put down pace.
    Good Cozy Mystery
    Any additional comments?
Vagabond Clyde is a cat, who returns home to a murdered owner. Fostered by Jillian Hart, Clyde helps unravel the mystery that is sure to follow. I continue to love the rambling, cozy mystery. Cats, quilts and familiar small town characters I cant help but love them all! The Cat, the Vagabond and the Victim is another very appealing mystery by Leann Sweeney. The Audible version is a great listen for a cozy afternoon.
    Entertaining
This is another good book in a good series. It is light and cozy with a good storyline and well developed characters.
Not a bad cozy mystery, but moves slowly
This is a good cozy mystery for listening to something fun in the background while you're doing something else. It's cute, it doesn't require a lot of concentration, and it doesn't move quickly. That said, I have really enjoyed Leann Sweeney's cozy mysteries, and this was no exception.
For those who enjoy cat-centered mysteries, this involves a lot of cats, but be aware that they don't necessarily take center stage. The cat doesn't voice the mystery, but there are several felines involved throughout the book.
I listened to it on and off over the course of about a couple of weeks around bedtime to wind down. It was perfect for that, and I particularly enjoyed Vanessa Johansson's narration. Her voice is soothing and has enough cadence to it to keep the listener interested, but it's never jarring.
For those who enjoy nonstop action, look elsewhere. This is not a military thriller and something doesn't happen every second, so if you're looking for heart-pounding excitement, this is not the book for you.
For anyone who wants to wind down their day with a cute story with graceful, soothing narration or for anyone who wants something relaxing playing in the background while they clean up a room, this book is purr-fect.
A devoted cat who helps his murdered master
Jillian takes over as shelter mom of a large, overweight cat in The Cat, the Vagabond, and the Victim by Leann Sweeney.

    READ (LISTEN) TO THIS BOOK!!
What did you love best about Hair of the Bitch?
I loved that you literally were inside Calvin's head. He was constantly arguing with himself about choices he should or shouldn't make and I loved how you got to see how tortured he was. The ending was insane and I can't believe I didn't see it coming!
What did you like best about this story?
I can't say there was one thing in particular I liked about the story, as I liked the whole thing. The characters were awesome, especially Calvin. Angela got on my nerves a couple of times but the book wouldn't have been as good without her.
Have you listened to any of Jeff Hayss other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've never listened to any of Jeff Hay's performances before.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely! I needed to know how Calvin was going to justify his actions and what consequences would result from those actions.
    Sick, sick, sick!!!!
What made the experience of listening to Hair of the Bitch the most enjoyable?
Great story line, enhanced by an amazing narrator. loved the "voice" he gave to each character, along with the sound effects used.
What did you like best about this story?
It was a dark and twisted tale. I liked the characters, even if they were all messed up in their own way.
What does Jeff Hays bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Jeff may it feel like there was definite separation between each voice. I've listened to some audiobooks and couldn't tell who was "speaking" at times, not the case with this one.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    A love story meets Hostel
    Any additional comments?
This was an amazing book. Very sick and twisted - one of the darkest books i've read. I loved it!
    Disturbing and dark....very dark
What made the experience of listening to Hair of the Bitch the most enjoyable?
I don't know if I would classify this experience as enjoyable. I thought the writing was excellent and the narration was certainly top notch. But this was a book that I found was more akin to watching a horrific car crash. You don't want to watch (or listen in this case) but you cant' stop because something deep inside you needs to find out what happens and if you're going to see any blood.

    Very Good

    DINA
I liked the book, narrator did an excellent job. I wish it was Lucky instead of baby Dina who lost their life. Then everybody in Secret's circle wasnt strictly legit towards Secret. Everybody always have their own agenda.

    A Very Pleasant Surprise!
I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised by The Thought Pushers. I had so many questions at the end of The Thought Readers that I wasnt sure where the authors were going to go with the sequel, but I was looking forward to finding out.
The Thought Pushers does a great job of building on events in The Thought Readers as Darrens story continues. We get to ride along with Darren as he continues to discover more about who and what he is, the world he is a part of, who is family really is, and so much more. The plot twists keep coming and keep you guessing whats going to be around the next corner. And of course, there is the complicated relationship with Mira, who can do a complete 180 if the wrong thing is said or even implied. The authors did a great job with continuing to develop the characters into people I cared more and more about as the story went on, and the story kept drawing me further into it.
The nicest surprise for me was the quality of the narration. I wasnt very impressed with Roberto Scarlatos narration of The Thought Readers, but this time around I thought he did a really nice job. There seemed to be more emotion in his voice, which is a characteristic that significantly contributes to keeping me interested in the story and the characters.
I give The Thought Pushers a definite 2 thumbs up! And now Im really looking forward to the third installment of this series as well as the offshoot, The Time Stopper.
    Phenomenal ^.^
Fast paced, witty, action, that will leave you on edge and craving for the next book.
    A thoroughly entertaining sequel
    (Spoiler Free!)
After being pleasantly surprised by the quality of 'The Thought Readers', i was eager to dive into the sequel. The book is a direct continuation of events from the previous 'The Thought Readers', so I highly recommend reading it before this one.
The story concentrates on Darren's supernatural abilities once again, as he searches for clues about his past, the fate of his parents and what it means to be a Pusher. Considering the events of the first book, I actually found 'The Though Pushers' highly entertaining. This is the hallmark of a good sequel, as it builds upon events from the previous book, while fleshing out familiar characters and at the same time introducing new ones.
Speaking of characters, the protagonist - Darren - continues to be a relatable and interesting lead character. His complicated relationship with love interest Mira was also a great narrative hook for me, as i wanted to see where it could go.
As for the Narrator (Robert Scarlato), he does a fantastic job of giving the characters life and personality. It made listening a very entertaining experience.
If you are a fan of supernatural fiction with a riveting storyline, then this is the book for you. Just do yourself a favour and read the first book to give you the full experience.
The Mind Dimensions never cease to impress
Would you listen to The Thought Pushers again? Why?
Yes, I would listen to the book again. But I couldn't decide which one is better.

    Critic Reviews:
"Her storytelling is as consummate and fiendish as ever." (Independent on Sunday)
"The characters are vibrant, the writing distinguished, the descriptions of mood and landscape perfect, the ironic ending nicely cynical. And over it all, a haunting Norfolk mist of dread, loneliness and ancient history." (Sunday Express)
    Members Reviews:
    Disappointing
I didn't enjoy this book very much, it was too complicated and it was difficult to follow and the plot wasn't particularly interesting. I have enjoyed other books by this author which were read well by the same narrator but on this occasion the narration was not up to the usual standard. The book is set in Norfolk and it is not unreasonable to expect place names to be consistently pronounced correctly. I am not sure if the narrator was attempting a Norfolk accent but at least one of the characters sounded Australian for no obvious reason. I will try more books by this author and I would be happy to listen to other books read by the narrator, but this book was disappointing.
    DEV I CES & DESIRES
what's 20 x 7 Friday I love her to bits and I think I have read all of her books
    Awesome
    Daniel Weyman awesome reading voice
to an awesome story as usual
    thanks for a fantastic read
Surprising that Insp Dalglish isnt in charge
Great narration by Daniel again and it is a very interesting story but seemed strange to me Adam Dalglish was not running the investigation which held him back and I missed him. Otherwise very good as always but not my favourite
    Unrealised potential.
James has introduced just too many potential killers - too many balls to be kept in the air. As usual, she engages in gratiitous hyperbole, overuse of adjectives, doubtful imagery and even more doubtful vocab and has an annoying tendancy towards tautology. In the end she resorts to farce to deal with the surplus characrers - introducing a sub-plot too ridculous to be believed, a revalatory process that becomes laboured, and yet another disappointing but predictable love interest for our super-sleuth. Too long. Too complex. Too ambitious. It is saved only by another polished performance by narrator, Daniel Weyman.

    Publisher's Summary:
More than 75 years ago, five Nazi scientists embarked upon an expedition into the frozen Himalayas in search of the origins of the Aryan race. What they found instead was something beyond their wildest imaginations--a secret they would sooner take to their graves than risk releasing upon an unsuspecting world.
Now nearly a hundred years old, Johann Brandt, the lone surviving member of the original party, shares his discovery with Jordan Brooks, an evolutionary anthropologist who launches his own expedition into one of the most dangerous environments on the face of the planet in search of the evidence Brandt claims to have left behind.
If Brooks and his team hope to find the proof, they'll have to follow the historical footsteps of the Germans into the hunting grounds of a species that evolved in utter geographical isolation, and their only hope for survival lies in uncovering the truth about the ill-fated Nazi expedition...for those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

Pure Adventure at a Documentary Pace
DISCLAIMER: I received this copy in exchange for a review.
WARNING: This review contains mild spoilers.
There is a great deal to like about this novel. It contains some of the usual techno-thriller ingredients: Nazis, esoteric science, the Yeti, and long, lost Tibet. If you were to judge it by those alone you might well say, "Meh." However, it's how these ingredients are mixed that gives this novel its unique flavor.
In 1938 Nazi scientists brave the Himalayas in search of the Master Race. They fail. Or do they? 75 years later the sole survivor puts together small team of four extraordinary scientists to retrace his steps and unlock the secrets of the next phase of human evolution.
The plot unfolds in parallel tracks; present day, and via journal entries from the original expedition. McBride does an outstanding job of interweaving these story lines. It's never cluttered or confusing, in large part because the journal entries are written in period style. The language and word choices harken back to the 1930s, giving the reader a clear delineation between what has happen, and what is happening.
The plot and universe remind me of Niven's "Protectors" series. To be sure, this is a techno-thriller and not hard science fiction, but I felt teased by the similarity of the elements.
The audio production is very good. There were a few wah-wahs indicating some not so seamless edits and the audio was a little muddy in places, but not distractingly so. I only noticed because I was listening for it. Scott Thomas has a gift for excellent character voices, particularly the aged Johann Brandt. His pacing and stylings enhance an already taunt and charged atmosphere.
McBride did an enormous amount of research for this novel. The explanations of the sciences embraced and the history used serve to inform and heighten the story's drama and tension. He accomplishes this by distilling complex ideas into readily manageable chunks. The reader surfs on a wave on information and isn't buried under a tsunami of facts. At least, initially.
Regrettably, the info dumps do get tedious. At one point I was shouting "Out with it already!" For instance, I didn't need to know the number of tattoos on the priest's face, or their arrangement, or their native name, symbology, or significance.

    Classic Crime Capers
This is just a light fun set of crime caper stories staring Simon Templar, aka "The Saint."
I don't know why this was listed as Book 3. The stories contained here are the 2nd, 3rd and fourth stories written about The Saint.
For readers of current thrillers this may seem a little dated, but I found that to be part of the charm.
I enjoyed the stories and the character of The Saint that I might have to add the entire series to my wish list.
The Saint an original Super Hero
Would you consider the audio edition of Enter the Saint to be better than the print version?
I enjoy the theater of the mind offered by the narration
Who was your favorite character and why?
Of course the Saint is a favorite I also liked Conway as one of his backup men always around to help out.
What about John Telfers performance did you like?
I think John was bringing the story to life through his use of accents and emotion of each role, Bringing to each person in the story individualism and nuance.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Well it is not easy to have that much time so not in a single sitting. I listen while working when I am able to. I helps the tasks to flow for me.
    Any additional comments?
I am looking forward to the next book
A Very British Rogue With A Sense Of Honor
What made the experience of listening to Enter the Saint the most enjoyable?
The writing. While the story points may be dated, the writing is whip-crack sharp. The author has a masterful take on the British language of the time and delivers it in perfect measure.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
This is actually a compilation of 2 or 3 novellas. I say 2 or 3, because the last one seems to end only part way through. Not sure if that was intentional or not. The first two were considerably longer and had quite appropriate endings.
Have you listened to any of John Telfers other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not had the pleasure, but he did a great job here.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Perhaps in 2 or 3 sittings - one per Novella.
    Any additional comments?
You definitely get the sense in these stories, why The Saint became as popular a series as it had and why the interest in it continues to this day.

    Narrative is very very robotic.
Narrator detracts from the whole story. Struggled to keep listening. Story is good but I don't think I can listen to another one with the same Narrator.
    Theft of name!!
Not a good book and I seriously dislike the fact that the author uses the news "Preston" and "Child". Isn't that a form of plagiarism? Wonder if the real Preston and Child have seen this. Use your own name and quite riding their short tails for your advancement. Wish I could get my money back.
    Bit of a fantastical story
The narrator does a good job with Russian German and Scottish accents. Unfortunately, he makes the women and the billionaire sound as if they are snakes or some other kind of reptilian trying to speak English. It was really quite annoying and hard to get past. I did finish listening to the book and did not think it was at the same level of quality as the first book.
    Deep Sea One
This drags a bit. The narrator is awful. He should spend less time trying to speak with accents and learn basic English pronunciation! Every time he mispronounces a word it detracts from the story.
Started out good, but finished in a rush
Started out good with characters, plots and subplots fully developed. But after a few chapters in the plots were cut short, as if this was an abridged version. By the end I definitely felt cheated out of a lot of details and plot twists. As usual, this narrator was only mediocre, with frequent mispronounciations.

Yes, great plot and characters, great narrator.
What did you like best about this story?
    The story line
    Any additional comments?
Cheated by Death is an excellent addition to the series. The plot with all of the unexpected twists and turns, left me always wondering what was coming next. My favorite character was Jeff Resnick .I listened to this as an Audible book. There were times when the women sounded the same, But the writer wrote it in such a way it made it easy to tell who was who. That small detail did not hurt the plot or the development of the characters. Other than that detail the narrator did an excellent job.
    Fantastic Read
What did you like best about this story?
    I love the story line.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Jeff thought his long lost father was dead until the day he finds out he is alive but dying.
    Any additional comments?
I love the series and Jeff is my favorite character.
Once again, Steven Barnett has done an outstanding job as the narrator.
    Cheated by Death
Jeff Resnick thought his long lost father was dead until the day he finds out that he was wrong. He discovers that Chester Resnick is still alive but dying. He also finds out that he has more family than he realized.
As if that wasn't enough to keep him busy he has to find out who is stalking his sister-in-law, Brenda.
Steven Barnett once again turns a wonderful performance as narrator.
I love this series and Jeff is definitely one of my favorite characters.
    Tense Topical mystery
Would you consider the audio edition of Cheated by Death to be better than the print version?
I do, because the audio version conveyed emotion better. Steven Barnett's voice was perfect for this book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Cheated by Death?
When Jeff took pictures of the protesters at the clinic, almost every one of them had an ugly expression on their faces. This struck me as they had no idea of the surveillance and their true natures were obvious.
Which character as performed by Steven Barnett was your favorite?
Jeff Resnick was my favorite character. I felt that Steven Barnett, as Jeff, was sitting in the car with me, telling me Jeff's story. His voice was not overwhelming, which is a good thing in narration. It didn't distract from the story being told, it enhanced it. He had an honest and earnest delivery, just perfect for our main character, but the other characters each had their unique voices.

Winner of the Arthur Ellis Award for Best Crime Novel and shortlisted for the Governor Generals Literary Award: Carol Shieldss award-winning fourth novel is a literary detective story exploring the surprising afterlife of a murdered poet.
Who is Mary Swann? In this novel of a writers revenge, an uneducated farmers wife delivers a paper bag filled with scraps of her poems to the publisher of a small press. Hours later, shes dead, murdered by her husband. Fifteen years on, her book of 125 poems - Mary Swanns sole claim to fame - is discovered by an American academic. And a literary odyssey begins. Four narrators - Sarah Maloney, a feminist writer; Frederic Cruzzi, an editor; Morton Jimroy, a biographer; and Rose Hindmarch, Marys only friend - all have a stake in the deceased poets work. Their chorus of voices opens a fascinating window on what constitutes genius. As the four descend into a quagmire of ego, jealousy, and backstabbing, Mary Swann comes back to life - in the minds and hearts of those who love and hate her most. Full of mischief, Swann is a novel about life, death, and the ideas that live on after us.

    just an average read.
Not my favorite Carol Shields novel
The Stone Diaries and Larry's Party are two of my favorite books, but I didn't love Swann as much as I'd hoped to. Parts of it are haunting and will stay with me for a long time. The writing is lovely and parts of it are very funny, and I appreciate Shield's obliquely cynical take on academics and the study of literature. But overall it is slow-moving. Shields does have a surprising talent for getting you to invest in sad, disappointed, unlikable characters, though. There are a lot of complex layers to this story.
    A Momentary Life
There is nothing in the early chapters of this intriguing book to suggest that it is intended as a comedy -- more of a mystery, if anything -- but it left me with nonetheless with the impression that it might almost have been written by Michael Frayn, erudite like HEADLONG, and parodying academic types as he did in SKIOS. But this came out in 1987, more than a decade before either of Frayn's books, and Carol Shields is a woman.
The gender is important, for the eponymous heroine of the book is the late Mary Swann, an impoverished farmer's wife in Western Ontario. An untaught Emily Dickinson, reading only popular fiction, she nonetheless wrote some 125 short poems in semi-rhymed verse over a fifteen-year span that express hard truths -- from a woman's perspective, but embracing all of life. Locally published in a tiny edition, they might have been forgotten had not an ambitious feminist scholar named Sarah Maloney come upon them by pure accident, published an article, and unwittingly started a feeding frenzy among academics, trying to find out anything they can about this obscure woman who was murdered by her husband before her book even came out.
One of the quiet achievements of Carol Shields is to have written the Mary Swann poetry that she quotes in the book. She gets the tone exactly right, maintaining a necessary simplicity, yet suggesting further spheres of vision:
    Blood pronounces my name
    Blisters the day with shame
    Spends what little I own,
Robbing the hour, rubbing the bone.
Shields has a delicate touch delineating the other characters in the story.
