Strong start sputters to a stall....
Interesting begging, strong middle, culminating in a rushed and far fetched ending. The last two hours felt like a YA novel. I guess it was worth the $1.99, but definitely NOT credit worthy....
Starts with potential, then falls short
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The beginning of this book was very promising, but then the story fell apart in my opinion. Just not really feasible/believable.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
    Very ROBOTIC pronunciation, especially when attempting a male voice. Ev-er-y syll-a-ble pro-nounced in a ve-ry un-na-tur-al way.
    Okay YA thriller
I actually did not realize that this was a young adult novel when I bought this. I really liked the beginning, when the main character had no idea who she was, and someone was trying to kill her. It was fun, mindless suspense. The book captured the panic and helplessness of the girl's situation. The more she and we know, the more this devolved into a typical YA thriller. A little far-fetched, but fast moving. I enjoyed this enough to finish. I expect that young readers might like this a lot. I would rate the first half of this a fun 4 star thriller, but the second half faltered. I give a half-hearted endorsement for adults.
    Painful
First of all, the narrator's voice was painful to listen to. It was as if she was just learning how to read.
Next, the story itself was hard to listen to because if the 16-year-old main character in the story was supposed to be telling the story, NO 16-year-old has a vocabulary like she did.
Needless to say I would not recommend this book or narrator.
    scooby doo
I enjoyed the beginning of this book, but it quickly became a Scooby Doo mystery.

    Gansters, Drugs and Revolution
I guess I wasnt sure what to expect from The Hit given the brief summary supplied.
I thought Id be in for shenanigans and life lessons from Adam in his last week alive with the sharp satirical edge the premise lends.
The Hit actually plays more like a rollicking British gangster flick. Youve got a rock star, leg breakers, drug dealers, an anonymous protest group and hundreds of thousands of disenchanted Britons all converging as Adam tries to fulfil his bucket list.
Hed expected to spend his last seven days drinking, shagging and partying but as revolution threatens to spark in a depressed near-future England Adam realises his death will be anything but meaningful in the face of such unprecedented events. And of course, theres a distinct chance me mightnt even see out his rapidly ticking clock
The Hit was brash, violent and over-the top at times and I definitely think it could have (should have) dug deeper to a more poignant morale core. Still, the book cracked along with some interesting twists and while I initially wasnt a fan of the surprise multiple bad guy POVs, they definitely built tension.
Overall, Id recommend The Hit if youre looking for something with an interesting premise that is a bit rougher than the usual. Guy Ritchie fans could definitely find something to enjoy here too.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 25 mins

    Publisher: Scholastic Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 50 votes
    Genres: Teens, Mysteries & Thrillers
    Publisher's Summary:
The first in a rousing, funny, genre-busting trilogy from best seller Jaclyn Moriarty!
This is a tale of missing persons. Madeleine and her mother have run away from their former life, under mysterious circumstances, and settled in a rainy corner of Cambridge (in our world).
Elliot, on the other hand, is in search of his father, who disappeared on the night his uncle was found dead. The talk in the town of Bonfire (in the Kingdom of Cello) is that Elliot's dad may have killed his brother and run away with the Physics teacher. But Elliot refuses to believe it. And he is determined to find both his dad and the truth.
As Madeleine and Elliot move closer to unraveling their mysteries, they begin to exchange messages across worlds - through an accidental gap that hasn't appeared in centuries. But even greater mysteries are unfolding on both sides of the gap: dangerous weather phenomena called "color storms;" a strange fascination with Isaac Newton; the myth of the "Butterfly Child," whose appearance could end the droughts of Cello; and some unexpected kisses...
    Members Reviews:
    Exciting, Heart warming and funny!
Jaclyn Moriarty is a fantastic writer with a very unique voice. Everything about this book is a little peculiar in the best possible way. I found the world of Cello and the protagonist's mission to solve the mystery of his lost Father to be my favorite parts. But also very dear to me was the Sheriff of Bonfire!
Madeleine's story holds some of the funniest bits, considering the conversations between her two friends, and her letters back and forth between her and Elliott. But the mystery of Madeleine and her mother I found to be a little confusing. Very moving and well written but the mystery it's self is confusing and I think it isn't quite fully explained, though I suppose that's why it's Book 1!
The Narrators were all terrific! Andrew Eiden (Elliott) was an absolute awesome narrator, everytime I heard him start a chapter I knew it would be good. His portrayal of Elliott is spot on but more impressive was his ability to inhabit the old Sheriff Hector Samuels with the age and wisdom that's usually hard to get from a young narrator. Fiona Hardingham (Madeleine) was also fantastic. Her ability to bring feeling to even the smallest of sentences was great, it seemed like you could cry out loud or burst into laughter at any moment, and she rode that fine line delicately and consistently. Kate Reinders (The Princess sisters) was HI-Larious, and Peter McGowan (the travel guide voice) was perfect!
Wow, I didn't mean to go on for so long but as soon as I got started I couldn't stop! Loved this book and can't wait for Book II....
    Beautifully Written, Beautifully Narrated
Jaclyn Moriarty has created a unique story that captures you almost instantly. Her writing is beautiful and poetic, infusing the world she created with emotion, humor, and vivid detail. I also enjoy the originality of her world---this isn't just another stock YA novel and certainly wasn't something I'd read before! Although all of the narrators are excellent, Fiona Hardingham's narration brings the story to life. You can tell that she really understands her characters, their personalities, and their emotions.

    Best action book
Definitely reading the rest of the series. Would definitely recommend this series have had so much fun reading them
    Plodding, Implausible, and It's a Children's Book
A boring book for children, with plot holes big enough to swallow a fleet of lorries. It starts with a preposterous act of petulant vandalism and goes down hill from there. The cardboard cutout characters are, well, cardboard thin and cardboard tasty. The 14-year-old protagonist's parents and adult guardian are dead, of course, and the living adult characters are the weak, mean, ugly ogres that maladjusted 14-year-olds believe all adults to be. The story line is so glaringly obvious that I felt like grabbing sunglasses even while listening. The book is classified as a mystery. The only mysteries are how such sodden, small-minded, depressing awfulness could come from the high talent pen of Anthony Horowitz, and why the brilliant Simon Prebble wasted his breath on such rubbish.
    Love Alex Rider series
Love how at the end it's never really over. This is a awesome series to recommend for boys.
    Great book
It's a very interesting book and good for kids
You should get it now it's amazing

The Kickin' Trail Ranch is one of the nicest they've found. The food is great, the location next to the Natchez Trace State Park, and some of the other guests are young and attractive. It seems wonderful until a body is found on the trail.

    Deliciously Creepy
The suspense is definitely ramped up in this one!! Great series. I still have no idea whether Jazz will be a serial killer or be redeemed. Since I am not familiar with this author until this series, I have no idea if he values the lives of his main characters or not. Right now it doesn't look good for anyone. We shall see. This ending is a cliffhanger. Reader beware. I will admit that if everyone dies and Jazz gives in to his upbringing, my next review will be decidedly lower!!
    FINALLY!!!

    Members Reviews:
Murder or suicide? Conspiracy theories abound.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Not sure. This is the second book in the series. I didn't think it was a good as the first one because the first half of the book was spent filling in Rose's background when she was at boarding school. The content felt a bit like an Enid Blyton at times. I'm not sure the amount of detail was needed, but it was useful in giving substance to the plot later on.
I would recommend this book to people taking a holiday in and around North Norfolk. It can be fun to have a book to listen to in the car that is based in the place you are staying. It can take forever to get from one place to another in and around Holt, Stiffkey, Cromer etc, so this can help the time pass in a pleasant way. You can even visit locations and shops to see where the action happened. In the first book, the action was set in London. This time, the action moves to Holt and Stiffkey in North Norfolk.
We now know the pattern of plot from book one; the main mystery is for Rose to solve and helps her develop emotionally as she moves from teen to adult. The background story which weaves through both books (and future books) is her step brother's quest to find their missing parents. The two work on solving their mysteries independently, meaning that the two storylines could easily stand alone in separate books. Rose and Joshua only work together on the odd occasion.
At the end of the book I was not so eager to find out what happens next. I lost count of the times that peoples throats constricted! It appears that all characters feel emotion via the throat. It got tiresome. Likewise, little fragments of plot were repeated not long after the first mention. I didn't feel this was for the reader's benefit, rather it was poor writing.
One of the guest star characters for this book was a local youth by the name of Tim Baker. It's pretty obvious he works at a shop called Bakers and Larner's in Holt. The description fit the old fashioned department cum food store well. We don't get told this is the shop though (it would probably result in libel cases). I mention this because Tim's father was a gardener at Rose's school. Tim drove a BMW, yet worked behind the counter at a food shop. His sister attended the very expensive boarding school along with Rose. How on earth could he have afforded a BMW and the family a boarding school place on a gardeners wage? It would have made more sense just to have Tim as the store owners son. It's a small point, but it really nagged at the plot in terms of believability. It didn't fit the plot line well enough. So much attention to detail was given elsewhere, but not here. Sloppy. It stuck out like a sore thumb.
What am I saying? Believability! It's a work of fiction. You have to suspend belief in places, but you'll really be wishing it was true.
