    Publisher's Summary:
As Vanessa watches her aged parents fade, her daughter prepare for childbirth and her much older husband, Asher, struggle in the throes of open-heart surgery, she dreams of reversing time and becoming young again.
With her best years as an actress behind her, she's discovering that beginnings are easy, but endings are hard. Could her fountain of youth fantasies be fulfilled on zipless.com, a site inspired by her best friend Isadora Wing's fantasy of encounters with no consequences?
Surrounded by mortality, Vanessa is restless and curious enough to try anything. And she does. But the results make her wonder whether what she craves - sex, love, connection - may be closer at hand than she realises.
Fear of Flying has sold 26 million copies in forty languages. It has been hailed as a classic by scholars. Fear of Dying extends the satire, compassion and wisdom that still captivate readers the world over. It is destined, once again, to change the way we think about our lives.
    Editorial Reviews:
"I loved Fear of Dying. I found it irreverent, funny, tender and very wise and it made me feel more alive." (Rachel Joyce, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry)
"The book that started it all by the woman who started it all." (Naomi Wolf on Fear of Flying)
    Members Reviews:
Intelligent, literary novel -- "Fear is a waste of life"
I was 21-years-old when Erica Jong's FEAR OF FLYING was published, and I remember being mesmerized by the way she wrote about sex. This was 1973, and while the woman's movement was definitely going strong, female sexuality was still something mysterious and not totally acceptable to talk about. But Jong's narrator, Isadora Wing, longed for what she called the "zipless ****," a spontaneous sexual encounter with a nameless stranger that would be pure experience without attachments, strings, or obligations. And now, over four decades later, Jong revisits Isadora's world in FEAR OF DYING, which focuses on the vast changes in women's lives as we grow old and face our own mortality. This time, the narrator is 60-year-old Vanessa Wonderman, a "darling friend" of Isadora's who is dealing with her aging parents, her 85-year-old husband, and a beloved standard poodle also nearing his end. The story Vanessa tells is somber and difficult, but also uplifting and affirming in surprising ways. I'm just a few years older than Vanessa, and I totally identify with her struggles to deal with her dying parents, her fears about her husband's health issues, and her oddly beautiful attachment to her poodle Belinda. It's just the sex talk that doesn't quite work for me this time around. And there's lot of it!
The one thing I remember most about FEAR OF FLYING was what happened when Isadora finally found herself in a position to experience the "zipless ****." Instead of leaping into it with open arms, she rebuffed the stranger's advances, realizing only much later that she had missed her chance. In FEAR OF DYING, Vanessa is a former soap opera actress who has had many zipless experiences, as well as countless "zipped-up" ones. She's been married several times, had an abundance of lovers, and sees herself as a sexually free woman. She's also super wealthy, as is her billionaire husband.

Doch die gesuchte Diskette mit brisanten Informationen hat man nicht gefunden und so sieht Colonna plötzlich sein Leben bedroht. A simple cats in the cradle Christmas Tale
This was a simple, sweet, story of a man learning to get his priorities straight in order to hang on to his family.
I know it is a very common issue, but I just want to reiterate to all those hard working men out there - most of us women would rather have a real relationship than a lot of fancy things.
    Some swearing
Bonus short story #1 - Although I cant image people lining up to see the Christ child like he was a mall Santa, it was cute enough.
NARRATION: Pro: Good pacing, emotion, and speed (I like things a bit faster and this was good) / Con: I didnt love his female/child voices
I received this book free in return for an honest review, courtesy of Audiobook Blast dot com.
    Great short story for Christmas!
This book will be added to my "must read each Christmas" list. I loved the characters and how Joe works so hard to get his marriage back together, This story will be a good reminder for me each year. J. Scott Bennett did a great job narrating this book!
    A Very Touching Story
Would you listen to Twelve Days: A Story of Christmas again? Why?
Yes. Every Christmas would be perfect! It has such a wonderful reminder of relationships and putting our priorities in order. I had never thought of using the twelve days of Christmas in such a way.
What about J. Scott Bennetts performance did you like?
Scott Bennett's voice was ideal since this story is told from a man's point of view. His voice was excellent and very soothing to listen to.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, I definitely did have a reaction. The ending brought tears to my eyes and I couldn't help but feel what the real message of this story was. Twelve Days of Christmas is such a heart-warming story. It reminds us to never put work before family.
    enjoyably little tale story
    Any additional comments?
This is a cosy short christmas story. I often find some short stories a bit rushed or unfinnished , this is not the case here .
Good plot, with the true family feel of Christmas.
    Good naration.
There are a couple of added extra very short christmas stories at the end .
Excellent Book for the Christmas Season
What made the experience of listening to Twelve Days: A Story of Christmas the most enjoyable?
This was a wonderful book! The story is well written, it kept my attention and had a good pace. For a short book the characters were well developed with just enough setting to bring the story alive in the imagination.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Twelve Days: A Story of Christmas?
The concept of doing the 12 days of Christmas differently than the traditional way was unique and intriguing. I could understand Joe's struggle to quickly find appropriate gifts. I loved the birds! It made me laugh out loud because out of desperation he went with it, but it so wasn't an appropriate gift..
What does J. Scott Bennett bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    I loved his tone.

Who is Eva Thorvald? To her single father, a chef, she's a pint-sized recipe tester and the love of his life. To the chili chowdown contestants of Cook County, Illinois, she's a fire-eating demon. To the fashionable foodie goddess of supper clubs, she's a wanton threat. She's an enigma, a secret ingredient that no one can put their finger on. Eva will surprise everyone.
On the day before her eleventh birthday, she's cultivating chili peppers in her wardrobe like a pro. Abandoned by her mother, gangly and poor, Eva arms herself with the weapons of her unknown heritage: a kick-ass palate and a passion bordering on obsession. Over the years her tastes grow, and so does her ambition.
One day Eva will be the greatest chef in the world. But along the way, the people she meets will shape her - and she them - in ways unforgettable, riotous and profound. So she - for one - knows exactly who she is by the time her mother returns to find out.
Kitchens of the Great Midwest is about the family you lose, the friends you make and chance connections that can define a life. Joyful, quirky or brazen, everyone lends their voice to tell Eva's story - one that's as heartwarming as it is irresistible, taking the bitter with the sweet.
    Critic Reviews:
"Kitchens of the Great Midwest is a big-hearted, funny, and class-transcending pleasure. It's also both a structural and empathetic tour de force, stepping across worlds in the American midwest, and demonstrating with an enviable tenderness and ingenuity the tug of war between our freedom to pursue our passions and our obligations to those we love." Gripping!
Really good listen and a great narration. First I found the different sides of the story a bit confusing: a girl running away form something, an accident, the Scottish referendum, god. However, well into the story it all fits. I really enjoyed this listen.

Her er ingen natur-scenerier.

-- 5 hjerter, Jes Stein Pedersen, Politiken

~~ Adultery, betrayal and more in Nantucket ~~
It is summertime in Nantucket. What appears like a sleepy town on the surface is far from it once you look below the surface. In this summary by Eureka Books (think DETAILED review) we learn that there are four main characters who are married couples: Grace and Eddie, Madeline and Trevor.
Madeline is a writer, Grace is building an epic garden and Eddie is in financial trouble unable to repay a loan from Trevor and Madeline. The couple's kids are also featured with their various relationships. Grace is attracted to the gardener and untrue rumors are circulating regarding Eddie and Madeline. Madeline who has already received the money for her next book in advance is lacking ideas so writes a story about Grace and the gardener. The editor loves it but Madeline feels great conviction over what she has done.
There are quite a few characters involved in the original novel hence the nine 'Main Character' bios. The 'Character Analysis' section is very informative delving a little deeper into Madeline, Grace, Eddie and their twin daughters, Hope and Allegra. In 'Character Relationships' four friendships/relationships are dissected.
SO what are the 'Themes' in this book? Adultery, betrayal, family, gossip, friendship, ethics, fame, wealth and self-reflections. Yep! Some real juicy ones in this one with great information.
PLEASE NOTE that this book by Eureka Books is a summary ONLY albeit a good one, giving the reader an in-depth glimpse into what the original novel is all about. The original novel is definitely not for everyone and that is where this book really comes into its own. If it is required reading by book club etc. you can read this summary and get a wonderful gist of what the story is along with all the spoilers without having to troll through the original. Of course, if you like this type of fiction and just need a refresher on the original then this is a great option for you.
Book provided in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Liz
13 Minutes and I got it!
Excellent summary! Every minute (13 to be exact) well spent. This summary lays out the entire novel in an orderly, easy-to-follow fashion. The summary begins with a high-level overview of the novel, highlighting main characters and significant plot development. I was able to grasp the entire plot after just a few page turns. The summary does well to provide enough detail on the main turning points in the story to bring to light the significance of key events, while not wasting time on the fluff and filler. Following the overview, the summary includes a brief description of the most important characters, as well as their key struggles within the story, followed by a more in-depth look into the themes of the novel. Overall, this read was well worth my time.
    Great Review on Relationships
I really enjoyed reading this summary and analysis of Hilderbrand's The Rumor. Not only does it give a concise summary of the book's plot, it also analyzes the characters and themes of the book.
