I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!

I love this book. The first time I listened to it was when I was about 12, I am currently 15 and still love it. It's such a cute story. Iv listened to this it at least 15 time. I'm not exaggerating in fact that's probably an understatement of how many times I've listened to it. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Candy makers makes new Audible convert.

I gave this five stars because my child loves it. She is seven and it was hard to understand the writing method used, but once she understood, she was hooked. Now she's requesting more books to listen to in the car. Yay!

Didn't see my phone for hours at a time

My kids loved this story so much they would take my phone any chance they got to listen to the audiobook. I didn't see my phone for hours at a time.

Fun and Fantasy

Another excellent book on the Sunshine State list that I enjoyed listening to with my 11-year-old daughter and she read along with the print version. It was challenging for her because, at 450 pages, it was the longest book she had ever read. But the story was a pure delight as it was told from the perspectives of the four main young characters. This provided some repetition, which was helpful in terms of comprehension. The author's imagination as she described the candy factory infrastructure made the reader/listener want to jump into the book and join in the fun. A fun book that teaches a lesson.

This book is great, so sweet and funny. By the first sentence I was hooked. This book is full of candy, spies, music, a secret ingredient , and the underworld. I love Logan, the candy makers son. I think you should read this book. Four friends and candy, what's not to like!

Absolutely Wonderful Family Story

This audiobook is listed as a young reader book, but I beg to differ. It's a wonderful book. Period. It's historical fiction covering the first world war and a time in America's history when immigrants flooded into our country from many other nations abroad. It's a story of the "orphan" trains, and the good and not-so-good people who adopted the children. And most of all it's a tale of one town and one little girl, Abilene that will nestle down deep into your soul and "sit a spell". This book is a jewel. Don't pass it up.

AWESOME book! LOVED it!

I loved this book! Not only did it hold my interest, but it wove two stories into one in such a way that neither could exist without the other. I could hear the sounds and smell the aromas described in the book. The imagery was well done and so was the character development.

The fact that the audio book used multiple readers to tell the story really added to it as well.

great historical fiction

An excellent performance. Such a lovely story. I quite enjoyed epilogue too! A story for many ages to enjoy!

Great read

I loved that the author used mostly real characters and actual dates. I'm a nerd and love stuff like that. I'm going to go do the tour it soon hopefully as I'm from Massachusetts.

What did you love best about Dear America: Like the Willow Tree?

I found this story about a little girl coming into the Shaker community to be fascinating! It was beautifully written by Louis Lowry, and Lydia's perspective was lively and soulful. I learned a lot from this book, and was left with a curiosity that has me further researching the Shaker Faith and Community.

What other book might you compare Dear America: Like the Willow Tree to and why?

This book holds it's own with so many of the other Dear America stories. Educational and moving!

What does Sara Barnett bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

The narration was beautifully done. I wouldn't have experienced how deeply Lydia felt and expressed things without the expression of Sara Barnett. She was magical to listen to!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It was moving to see Lydia's rock family grow!

It's one of my favorites. Due to its short time but great, and heart-warming story, I've gotten to enjoy it many times.

The reading was realistic and an easy listen. I just enjoy it.

It's a short book but it's very good. I've always enjoyed books about different American religious groups, and also historical fiction, which this book combines. It's out of my usual time period I like to listen to, and on a much lower reading level, but it's still a joy to listen to. Perfect for a car ride.

another sticky situation

I love how this book picks up right where the first one finished..like literally picks up so it really seems like you are reading a little girls diary.. the reader is wonderful her voice changing make the story even cutier. I like how these stories are about situations that could really happen in your life not just for kids but some adults too.. from the bullying to the success against all odds, the busy scheduling, and of course the friends and opposite sex issues are all things I can relate to from my childhood and in my adult life.. great story ready for the next book..

Yes, the Impossible!

While I agree with another reviewer who pointed out that the characters repeated themselves often, I chalk that up to this being, primarily, aimed at a younger audience. It's not just for them, however, because adults too can listen with a childlike innocence and enjoy this tale of the impossible.

In a cold and bleak winter, an orphan seizes hope and sets out find an elephant, find his sister, find the family he's been missing. Along the way are many, many broken souls, and even a blind dog becomes important in the scheme of things. There are many stories here, expertly touching on each other. It's delightful.

DiCamillo's rich prose is topped only by the astonishing narration by Juliet Stevenson (whom you may know from her works by Jane Austen). She perfectly characterizes each person, captures desperation, hopelessness, grief, wonder, and joy. Truly a remarkable performance.

This short book is definitely worth the listen, and you'll enjoy the wondrous answer to that most magical of questions: "What If?"

WONDERFUL!

What a lovely story of perseverance, and belief in the impossible. Kudos to Ms. Stevenson whose artful reading added her own bit of magic as we traveled together on this delightful journey. I can still hear the fortune teller's words in my mind week's after listening. Fabulous tale, excellent reading.

wonderfully magical story

Kate DiCamillo is a wonderful artist. The world she takes us into is delightful, and each character in the story plays a significant role. The story is touching, heartwarming, and simply magical.

This is a delightful tale of hopes and dreams and the magic moments in life. The story is not too long - I listened to it in two afternoons - and it held my interest. The narrator, Juliet Stevenson, was one of the best I've ever heard. Her range of voices for the different characters was nothing short of amazing!! I highly recommend it!

"She's alive"

This book was magical. The audio version brings an elevation of drama that brought me chills. Each time the reader repeated a sentence designed to drive a thought home, such as "She's alive" I felt it in my bones! Lovely!

Captivating

This book is one in a series. It is delightful! This author can really tell a captivating story.

Daughter loves it!

Let me start off with, I had been having problems with getting my youngest into reading. No matter what I downloaded or bought or even the ones she picked out, she was disinterested in. Until...this series!!!! There's not much more I can say. If it got her interested I believe it will others.

I'm sorry I'm so vague about everything, it's just I'm so excited to see her reading beside the rest of us every night during reading time & actually reading!!

Anything by Andrew Clements for the struggling intermediate reader

I chose this series for a student in my classroom that struggled in reading. It turned him around; he found the story lines engaging, yet predictable, and the length of the book helped him realize that he can tackle longer texts. Andrew Clements is my go-to author for the student that hasn't yet connected with reading, or has no reading stamina.

My daughters and I enjoyed the story. It kept their attention. We will check out the next book.

A great series

All these books are very enjoyable. The concept for the series was created by the author of the first book then the author invited others to write subsequent books with the same characters. The flow between books is seamless. The characters and plot are well-developed. David Pittu is an outstanding reader, and it's great that he was the reader for all the books. I waited a few years after my first listen and am repeating the whole series over!

Syren (2009), the fifth book in Angie Sage's entertaining and magical Septimus Heap series, begins about two days after the end of the fourth one, Queste. While Beetle, Jenna, Nicko, Snorri, and Ullr are in the far Trading Post being entertained on the Cerys, the splendid ship belonging to Jenna's biological father Milo Banda, Septimus is getting ready to fly there on his dragon Spit Fyre to pick them up. Newly promoted to Senior Apprentice of the ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, the boy would like to dramatically finish his Queste by flying his long-lost older brother Nicko home to their parents at the Castle. Great Light Listening Fun for Adults

This series of books, although focus at children, is a fun listen for even adults, although the stories are very short at an average of 6 hours per book.

Wonderful

My children (8 and 10) and I have been listening to the 39 clues series in the car as we go to school in the morning. We love it. David Pittu does a great job narrating! He is amazing!

Would you listen to The 39 Clues, Book 4 again? Why?

I love the whole series, and I am not a kid. This is great entertainment for children or adults with lots of plot twists and interesting locales. You can learn things about the world from the 39 clues whether you are old or young.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There are many interesting characters in this series, but what interested me was how the characters evolved and grew through the stories. It is hard to believe that there were so many different writers, it had such a smooth transition.

What about David Pittus performance did you like?

His performance was great!

We were able to listen to the audio tape while in the car and at home in order for my daughter to do her president's report. It had all the information she needed and then some:-)

I got this for the kids and I to listen to in the car. This is the perfect way to make car time educational. My oldest kid is 8 and my youngest is 1. Some of the story is above their heads but even my 5 year old is learning a lot. It is totally appropriate and I am very conservative. I will be buying more stories like these!
