    Why the bad reviews?
Would you listen to Blade of Tyshalle again? Why?
Yes, and I have many times already. This is a fantastic book, it evolves the characters unlike anything you could expect and lets them develop as you read. It gives you every emotion, from happiness to sadness and back again.
I find it baffling that people reviewing this book haven't even FINISHED it, how can you truly review a book if you haven't read the whole thing? Makes no sense.
This book evolves so much that the end is imperative to the reader. Yes this book can have some rough spots throughout, but having read it 10+ times I cannot think of a point that isn't important TO THE SERIES not just this book. This is book 2 of 4 and SO many things from this book are so important in both book 3 and 4 that don't seem important at all to this book it is astonishing.
If all 4 books were one book these complaints people are making wouldn't even exist because it would be fluid, but that is not how series work.
Read the whole thing before you try to judge.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blade of Tyshalle?
When Caine learns is in the dungeon.
What does Stefan Rudnicki bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
By far the best reader I have heard
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes, beyond a doubt.
    Caine rocks!
rudnicki is epic in his narration, Stover has a great story, Caine is a deep character and axtion is amazing!
Stop at Heroes Dies/But Listen to Others by Stefan
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I really enjoyed Stefan Rudnicki's narration and will look for other audiobooks he has narrated but I did not like the story and would not recommend the book.
The extreme violence, overly complicated plot, and metaphysical randomness took away from the story.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I'm listening to Theft of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan and am enjoying it so far!
    Which scene was your favorite?
I really enjoyed the beginning of the book that was a flashback showing how Hari Michaelson and Kris Hansen became friends at school. I thought it was setting the book up for a great sequel but, unfortunately for me, I thought the book went downhill fast after this flashback section.
Was Blade of Tyshalle worth the listening time?
No. It was a disappointing story and was extremely long, at about 32/33 hours of listening time.
    Any additional comments?
Stop at Heroes Die. This was a difficult review to write.

    Language: English

    Publisher's Summary:
Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan absorbs their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.
Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken princeleader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life.

    Finding I love this author!
    Another winner!
During the study series, it took me a bit to get used to Gabra Zackman as the narrator, but by the third book, I really started to appreciate her talent. In Touch of Power, she is AMAZING. There are so many subtleties to her voice to really draw the proper emotion. She is also great at consistent accents and tones for the different characters.
Maria V. Snyder did a great job with this story. Like one of the previous comments mentioned, there was a point in the story where I got a little impatient and thought, "okay, let's get on with it", but that only lasted for a moment and I was dragged right back in to the adventure. This story was meant to span a great amount of time, and she did a great job of relaying that long distance and passing of time without boring me. And the character development was definitely thorough, and appreciated.
When I first read the summary of this book (girl with the power to heal by drawing in others' sickness into her body), I was a bit hesitant and reluctant to download it, because I was worried the main character, Avery, was just going to be a wannabe Yelena from the study series. Not at all, as I discovered. Avery is an entirely different character, and holds her own. Despite what seemed like would be too much of a similarity, Avery's powers are unique and the story in Touch of Power is very original.
I definitely recommend this as a read. Now to wait for Book 2...
    Really, Really Good!
I am a big fan of her other books and I really enjoyed this one. The writing is good, the story is good, the characters are well developed. This is similar to her Glass and Study books, a touch of romance, mixed with fantasy and a bit of paranormal. (I'll read from that shelve all day) The story starts strong and does not let go. I was up half the night listening and waiting for a good stopping place. I totally recommend this one... the only bad thing is going to be the wait for the next book in the series, but I will not mind re listening to this one when book two comes out. Enjoy...
Not worth it if you've read Poison Study
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Nope, because the main themes and even major parts of the story seemed to be repeats of "Poison Study": heroine about to be put to death, love-hate relationship between the two main characters, there was even another hide-and-seek game in the forest...

I've been waiting for more NIGHTSIDE!
Marc Vietor is the voice of the Nightside, he's great at narrating this series. I've read everything Audible has by Simon Green. The Edwin Drood series, " Man with the Golden Tork" etc. In this story you will see how both these series touch upon each other at some points. I really can't wait for the next in the Edwin Drood series to see how things progress. Simon Green really knows how to spin a tale to the most bizarre, and mind bending images. You really have to start with the first book in the series to understand what has happened and who is whom. I also recommend "the Edwin Drood" Series. Not every one likes both, however I found them both suspenseful, humorous, and enjoyable. Time always flew by when listen to any of Simon R. Green's stories. I put Green on the same level as Jim Butcher, they both spin a great story and still have a sense of humor. (I've read all Jim Butcher's books as well) If your following this series then I don't have to sell you, if you've never had experience with the "Nightside" I suggest you start with the first book in the series "Something from the Nightside". Can't wait for next books from Mr. Green
The Bride Wore Black Leather: Nightside, Book 12
If this is your first time in a Nightside book, go back to the 1st and hear them all. They are an escape from anything serious but this one works best when following the other 11. There is a big cast of characters you get to know through the series of books and I think of them as old friends now no matter how creepy they are.

    Audie Award, Fantasy, 2013
Award-winning author, narrator, and screenwriter Neil Gaiman personally selected this book, and, using the tools of the Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX), cast the narrator and produced this work for his audiobook label, Neil Gaiman Presents.
A few words from Neil on Anita: "Anita is an almost forgotten novel by one of the finest UK writers. But it is a favorite of mine. Anita works on two levels: on the one hand, the stories are a product of the 1960s - they come out of a swinging world and a "Georgy Girl" time, and Keith Roberts, then a young art director, has captured the feel of the sixties. At the same time, he writes about a teenage witch being brought up by her Granny; he writes about a young witch falling in love, getting her heart broken, about change and growing up and compromise, about what magic is and how you can lose it sometimes and how you can get it back. And the character of Anita's Granny is amazing, one of Keith Roberts' best characters. [Anita] set the template for all the teenage witch stories that come after, and she did it better and more magically. I wanted these stories back in "print", where people could hear them and could fall in love with Anita and Granny, as I did."
    Meet Anita Thompson: she's young, she's lovely, she's clever ... and she's a witch. A real one.
Anita lives in two worlds: the modern world of supermarkets and sports cars, radio and rock & roll, where she is a thoroughly modern girl with a thoroughly modern interest in boys and fast living and her own independence. But the ancient and rustic world of traditions, cauldrons, and familiars , where she and her Granny (a witch of the Old School, broom and all) invoke elemental spirits int he service of Him Wot's Down Under. She has senses no ordinary mortal can imagine (at least nine); with them, she can hear the voices of every creature of the night. She can changer her shape, call a drowned corpse from a lake, reverse the flow of time, and ride the Sea Serpent (there's only the one, you know; always has been -- always will be) deep into the ocean in the company of a mermaid, even though the modern world is trying to crowd aside -- and even change -- that world of witchcraft and magic. Yet, complicated as a young witch's life may become, Anita never loses her sense of fun, or her essential innocence.
When the Anita stories first appeared in Science Fantasy and The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction in the late 1960s, they were immediately recognized as a strikingly original departure for the author of such celebrated works as Pavane. One critic called the original 1970 collection of these stories a "treasure." This new volume presents the stories in the author's corrected, definitive texts, a new introduction by the author, and an additional story which did not appear in the first edition.

    Satisfying! Loved IT!
I was so anxious about this book. I was so worried that she would try to cram too much in or leave something out..... but as with Seth Mortensen, it may take a year to write it, but it is worth every minute. If you are a GK fan you will not be disappointed in this book. RM stays true to each of her characters from beginning to end. Though I feel that she made Gerogina a bit more daft at times. True fans knew what was going to happen, but I personally did not think about the reactions to the revelation. Though there are not a lot of surprises as far as plot line there were many times that I was still guessing at how each character would play into the overall picture. I see another series forming from this one. I don't think this will be the last we see from the Seattle Crew, but I am very satisfied with Georgina and Seth's closing. I think this is the best series by RM. I have read other series by her and when I first started reading the Succubus series I had to go back and double check who the writer was. This series was written so profoundly different than any of her other series. It was smart, witty, mature and with just the right dose of sexual play and romance. The characters were all well developed along with each of their emotions and personalities. The reader for this series really made it too. You can tell she totally got Georgie. For me this was not just another typical Paranormal Romance. As with Katie and O'Neal, savor every page, or in this case, spoken word as it is rich and entertaining. Great Story, sorry to see it end, but what a great ending. Thanks Richelle for Sharing Georgie and the Seattle gang with us. It has been a pleasure.
    The Conclusion to Succubus Kincaid?
I assume this is the finale to the Georgia Kincaid series, since there is a definite ending. This is hard to write without giving some spoilers. I really enjoyed the plot of this entire succubus storyline and this installment finally wraps up many loose ends. We find out about the contracts with hell; we find out about Eric's death; we have many answers revealed about the Mortenson family. I kind of saw how some of this was heading throughout the series, but there were a few twists I didn't see coming. There are also some questions left kind of hanging. I have really enjoyed this series more than I ever thought I would.

A satisfying end to a beloved series
Note: This is the third book in the third trilogy set in the Kushiels Legacy series. However, this last trilogy is set a few generations later and stands on its own. This book, as the third in this trilogy, works best as the finale to the trilogy.
This book opens with Bao and Moirin heading back to Terre DAnge from the far east. Theyve been on a ship for months and are just coming upon Marsilikos where they learn that Raphael de Mereliots sister has passed away. From there, its on to Terre DAnge and the royal court where things are not well on many fronts.
King Daniel has been thrown into a deep funk by the death of his second beloved wife, Jehanne. Even though they have a toddler, Daniel can barely stand to spend time with her because she so resembles her deceased mom. Moirin and Bao can see right away that Desiree is suffering from neglect. Meanwhile, Prince Thierry, Desirees much older half-brother, went on a trade and exploration voyage to Terra Nova. Word reaches the court that Thierry has disappeared but Moirin is convinced hes still alive.
Leaving the DAngeline court in a bit of a disarray, Bao and Moirin make their way to Terra Nova on a quest to seek out Thierry and bring him back to set things aright. Of course, its not that straight forward. Theres plenty of hazards and Moirin and Bao have their doubts from time to time.
Terra Nova adventuring was deadly dangerous, thrilling, and so very well done. Theres human sacrifice, deadly ants, sorcery, Aragonians, native allies and enemies, betrayal, old loves, new friends, and gods that demand to be satisfied. I was impressed with how the blood sacrifices were addressed in this story. Human sacrifice was part of more than one culture in Terra Nova. While this is difficult for Moirin to wrap her mind around, she does try and eventually she and Bao have to make a hard choice on this front.
The jungle scene was great too. So many insects, reptiles, and plants! Theres plenty of reasons the Aragonians want a monopoly on trade agreements with the local government.

Good start to a Great series
    Re: NARRATION:
I'm currently re-reading this series (again) and decided to try the audio book this time.
I enjoyed it so much that I now own the entire series in both ebook format and audio format. I was impressed by the narrator, Emily Durante, who does a wonderful job bringing the characters to life & giving each character his/her own voice.
    AS TO THE STORY:
Devon Monk's Magic/Allie Beckstrom series is one of a handful of series that I HIGHLY recommend to friends & fans of Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance. In it, the author introduces us to an interesting and well-crafted world in which magic is a reality, but comes with a price. Not only do I find Monk's take on Magic and the world she has created to be both unique and interesting; but I also greatly appreciate the fact that our introduction into this world is fairly seemless. I was never confused &/or overwhelmed by too much techno-speak or conceptualization, as can sometimes be the case in fantasy books with respect to world-building.
This book/series might be a bit more UF than PR, but there is a quickly formed romance (w/ complications) for you paranormal romance fans, plenty of magic (most of it out of the bedroom... though some quite literally in it, a fair amount of mystery/ detective work, and some interesting, multi-faceted characters. *(Some of my favorite characters aren't introduced for a few more books.)
    IN SUMMARY:
MAGIC TO THE BONE ---- some romance, a lot of urban fantasy and some crime & intrigue --- It's a good start to a great series. If you enjoy the first book even a little, keep reading... the rest of the books are even more compelling.
    Good intro
I enjoyed this story although the ending was drawn out. Thought the magic concept was good, The heroine wasn't much for thinking outside of the box. Looking forward to future books.
Wish I had read reviews before buying
I think this was the author's first series and it shows. I've heard that some of her other series are better and I'm going to give them a try (since I already bought the paperbacks) but I can't get through this sloppy mess.
The premise was interesting, I've always been a firm believer in "magic having a price" but the author didn't build her world very well.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 24 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-07-11

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 150 votes
Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Koschei the Deathless is to Russian folklore what devils or wicked witches are to Western European culture: a menacing, evil figure, the villain of countless stories that have been passed on through story and text for generations. But Koschei has never before been seen through the eyes of Catherynne Valente, whose modernized and transformed take on the legend brings the action to modern times, spanning many of the great developments of Russian history in the 20th century.
Deathless, however, is no dry, historical tome: it lights up like fire as the young Marya Morevna transforms from a clever child of the revolution, to Koscheis beautiful bride, to his eventual undoing. Along the way, there are Stalinist house elves, magical quests, secrecy and bureaucracy, and games of lust and power. All told, Deathless is a collision of magical history and actual history, of revolution and mythology, of love and death, which will bring Russian myth back to life in a stunning new incarnation.

My Favorite Fantasy Book of the Year
I've mentioned in these reviews that I think that a narrator, especially one who is also an actor, can make a good book seem better; a bad narrator can sometimes tarnish the appeal of a book that is well-written. But, when a great performer reads an incredibly well-written book, the synergy can bring the result to a whole new dimension of achievement. I think that it is this latter case that best describes Deathless.
Firstly, my Audible version of the book thankfully avoids the very annoying repetitions of he said, she said within the narrative. Instead, the characters are acted out by the brilliant Kim de Blecourt. She has a voice for each character, sometimes subtle in nature but always unmistakably characteristic and consistent from the beginning to the end of the story. Performing a story rather than just reading it is a difficult task to pull off well as I can only surmise given how often I have listened to poorly narrated let alone unadroitly performed novels on Audible. And perhaps because of Ms. de Blecourt, I loved every one of the characters in this story: the heroine, the hero and even the villains who I came to never think of as true villains (see the blurring of dichotomies below.) The crones, elves and goblins, et al were beautifully drawn and all easily visualized from the words of the author and voice of the narrator. The sweetness and compassion that comes through in the voice of the narrator seem totally in keeping with the themes, tone and thrust of the story.
Anna Akhmatova is the translator of Deathless. I have read criticisms elsewhere of translators who were unable to accurately carry across in translation either the meaning or beauty of the original language. Im thinking of Solaris in its translation from Polish to English. While I cannot speak to the accuracy or translational skill of Ms. Akhmatova, what came across for me was prose of extraordinary beauty. And, given what at first blush can only be described as a book fraught with rather terrible themes, the projection of any kind of beauty in the midst of all that darkness and terror is only the first of its many dichotomies. And it is just these dichotomies that I found to be one of the most interesting aspects of the book.
There are themes of extreme opposites that are clouded dichotomies within the story.

When a new outbreak of an ancient evil-one that he has seen before- comes to light, Cade and his human handler, Zach Barrows, must track down its source. To "protect and serve" often means settling old scores and confronting new betrayals . . . as only a centuries-old predator can.

    Excellent series - keep reading
I don't imagine you're reading this unless you've read the first installment of the series, 'Blood Oath'. If I'm being honest, this second book in the series is a shade less potent than the first installment. Still pretty darn good though - I definitely recommend reading / listening. I'm maintaining the five star rating because, at the time I'm writing this, I've read the third book, which was awesome. Overall, this series holds five stars. If you're a fan of 'Blood Oath' but think this is a weaker tea, keep drinking, you'll be happy you did.
    Moxie and mad skills!
Nathaniel Cade, the ultimate defender of the world, is back with his plucky but sexually deprived handler, Zach. In The President???s Vampire, Cade uses his super strength and senses to protect people of the world against an old but newly, genetically altered foe. In this installment, we learn more about Cade???s skills, and Zach displays toughness in the face of adversity. I had no idea he was capable of such moxie. Finally, Tanya is still present, and her presence is still inexplicable. This book is interesting but is not as good as Blood Oath. Bronson Pinchot, again, does a wonderful job bringing characters to life.
    Loved it!
This is a vampire series (3 books). You don???t have a doe-eyed female saying bite my neck or a Clan of vampires trying to integrate into society or take over the vamp world. What you do have is a reluctant vampire; he made one mistake and has to attone for it for the rest of eternality
Cane is bounded by a pledged but also believes in fighting for the values of Unites States of America. Cane goes out (with his sidekick Zach) to fight the monsters so you and I can sleep monster free. As a matter of fact, he is sooo good we don???t even know there are monsters. So we have got espionage, vamps, politics, the values of ???Red, White and Blue??? (our flag) and a vampire who does not understand 21st century colloquialisms.
    What's not to like?
This is a great series. Like-able characters, good premise. Imagine HellBoy with a vampire instead of a devil, and you've got the idea of this book. Well narrated.
My first review, that good. Start with Blood Oath.
What did you love best about The President's Vampire?
The story is awesome. I stayed up all night listening to this nonstop. Great take on an old subject.
What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
Bronson is my new favorite narrator, sorry Marc Vietor. Bronson bring a large group of voices and makes each character come to life.

A spirited homage to old myths
In The Broken Sword, Poul Anderson mines the same Nordic/British myths and folklore that Tolkien did, and tells a rousing, tragic adventure. An infant is born to a Viking warrior and his Christianized family, but a proud and haughty elf lord takes the child and leaves a changeling in his place. Thus, Skafloc grows up among the elves and learns their ways, while the half-troll-half-elf Valgard is raised as human, but becomes a savage, unruly warrior.
The plot isnt too complex: the two warriors, who have a close physical resemblance, take opposite sides in a troll-elf war, and battle each other using magic, trickery, and might. However, a tragic twist comes into play, thanks to Skaflocs ignorance of his origins and some intervention by Norse gods.
This isn't up with The Lord of the Rings in terms of depth of world-building, but its got a fiercer, darker spirit. Look for homage to all the traditional elements of Northern European myth: old gods who do not allow mortals to renege on a promise; aloof, immortal, fleet-footed elves, who dwell in ethereal castles and know friendship but not love; seductive maidens who arent what they appear; and big, ferocious trolls (who call to mind the roided-out orcs in Peter Jacksons LOTR films). Though the description never gets too explicit (this novel was written in the 1950s), theres plenty of larger-than-life action, treachery, black magic, ale-quaffing, bawdiness, and skull splitting. The Hobbit, this isnt.
Fans of epic warrior sagas or the kind of blood-soaked faerie tales that are no longer considered suitable fare for children will eat this one up. Anderson's writing is faithful to the lusty descriptions of old epics like Beowulf, but not as dusty-sounding. You can practically hear the war horns blowing and the swords ringing. Audiobook narrator Bronson Pinchot might overact a bit here and there, but that's in keeping with the tales energy.
    Wow
I got this book because it was narrated by Bronson Pinchot and the plot sounded interesting. However, I had no Idea how great this book was going to be. It was originally released in the 1950's. However, there is no way you could tell, because the story and the setting are timeless. The narration was first rate Mr.Pinchot never disappoints and the story had me enthralled. If you like lord of the rings or fantasy in general you should pick this one up.
    Anderson's Best Work
Poul Anderson has woven a rich tale from Norse myth. The style and pacing are excellent. Anderson has created a tragedy of Shakespearean proportion and knowing from the first page that it will all end badly, you are still swept away with the story and can't stop. Pinchot is truly one of the best readers and his style well matches the story.
