Publisher's Summary:
The media tells us that every election is like no other in history but 2016 actually deserves that title. America has a unique field of candidates: Donald Trump, a reality TV star with no experience in government and who lacks the support of much of his political party. Hillary Clinton, a former First Lady who is being investigated by the FBI. Bernie Sanders, a Jewish man who wears the label of "socialist" proudly. Ted Cruz, a Canadian-born Hispanic who is reviled by much of his own party. And John Kasich, a conservative, white governor. That last one wouldn't be so groundbreaking but he is still in there.
This brawl for the nomination absorbs an incredible amount of media attention, but so much of what is produced is marred by partisanship that it is no wonder that so few Americans fully understand the nomination process.
Because of these misunderstandings the Quick and Dirty Guide Team is proud to present our guide to America's messy primary elections! This book will walk you through the "whys" and the "hows" of our candidate selection process. This includes answers to questions like "Why does Iowa get to go first?" "How does a caucus work?" and "What's so super about superdelegates and why do just Democrats have them?"

Answered more questions than I knew I had
I read this Quick and Dirty Guide because I wanted to quickly and easily put an end to my confusion about how many delegates different candidates have collected in this election cycle and what that signifies in the long term. (Cards on the table, I really just wanted to brush up on what I thought I knew in order to be able to put an end to other people's whining over how delegates are partitioned among candidates in as painless a manner as possible. Good thing I read this, because it turns out I was a lot more ignorant than I thought.)
This guide was an excellent source for the information I was looking for. It is quick enough and dirty enough for you to get through in a short period of time and with more sustained interest than you would normally have reading a manual, handbook, or textbook of comparable scope. It gives you the facts you want to know and explains complexities in a straightforward manner, avoiding pedantry and prolixity while ensuring thoroughness and polish.
Read this book to become a better citizen, or to acquire some rich material for the next time you find yourself talking about politics--which seems unavoidable in this election cycle.
Easy to read excellent summary of our political system.
Today's "sound bite listeners" will find this Quick and Dirty book easy to read and informative. It's about what's happening politically today as seen in all the media. The USA is transfixed on this election cycle without knowing much about the way it works. This guide lays out interesting state by state details and from history and applies them to our current situation. I highly recommend this short read.
