Publisher's Summary:
Twenty-some years ago, a populist movement swept America. It was kicked off by a billionaire businessman from Texas named Ross Perot. It started on a popular television show, Larry King Live. In what seems like overnight, people across the nation responded to the call to "wake up America," and began collecting petitions to put this man on the ballot. This book is a story about these people and what they did to take their country back.
They came from all walks of life. They learned how far it had fallen into the wrong hands. And getting it back wasn't going to be easy. This book is about a movement that laid the groundwork for today's populism that never went away. It went underground for a while and then resurfaced as the Tea Party Movement. Now, 24 years later, it looks like it is coming back full steam ahead.
On March 18, 1992, Ross Perot spoke at the Washington National Press Club. "America today is a nation in crisis with a government in gridlock.... I feel as owners of this country, if we're going anywhere, you've got to send them a message: You work for us. We don't work for you. Under the Constitution, you are our servants. Grow up! Work as a team. Serve the people. Solve the problem. Move on to the next one. Build a better country and stop throwing away money we don't have."

Our Country Needs This Book!
What a powerful story! Itâs over 400 pages, but reads like a novel. The editing errors do not detract from the message. Iâm very busy and no âspeed readerâ, but found it hard to put down, and finished it in five days. The author gifts us with an inspiring account of the adventures of the awesome patriots who pushed a reluctant American hero into the spotlight to champion the policies that could stop Americaâs dangerous downward spiral.
The thousands of volunteers who were on fire to do what was needed to make it happen were from a huge diversity of backgrounds and political ideologies. They were old, young, disabled, different races, immigrants from different countries and labored with heartfelt passion for many years for the love of their America.
All of their activities were met with fierce and sometimes vicious, even illegal, opposition.
These ordinary Americans left a phenomenal legacy, with a pattern for others to look to. They can be a guide if there is enough care for the survival of our historical values of love for individual liberties and opportunities for all Americans
I wish that the rest of us would now involve ourselves in our political processes, from local to national, in such a way as to be worthy of their sacrifices. Everyone who loves our country and loves our people should read this book
A primer to become an educated voter.
The majority of books published during a campaign year don't have staying power after the election, but this book is not one of those. The Perot story is applicable to every election since 1994 and a great primer for those have never been involved with a campaign behind the scenes .
The story is action packed starting with the day after the Perot appearance on Larry King, It names who heard the message, called Dallas and sprung into action and tackled organizing their state. It providing a much earned pat on the back to all.
