Great introduction... Look forward to more!

I look forward to delving into more material by Father Himes. So I hope Audible will carry more of his works. This lecture series was a great introduction to the fundamentals of moral theology, about which I'm sure much more could be said. I l'm sure I'll listen to the complete series again to pick up on things that didn't sink in the first time. A regret I have is that the publishers would not provide me with a copy of the study guide that comes with this lecture series for free when you buy the audio from their website.

Brings a new perspective to the book!

I was a little bummed to find out JR wasnt reading this book, but Lyle did an amazing job! He was a great performer, and navigated his way through fiction and non-fiction chapter wonderfully!

The performance combined with the amazing book written by JR is a force to be reckoned with! The book is crucial for is to understand in todays world where we can be so polarized in so many issues, but JR gives a glimpse into what healthy empathy looks like, and understanding those around us (especially our enemies, and those who are seen as evil).

He also shares caution for us to look out in our own lives as you dont become evil overnight, it happens day by day, and is something that any one of us can fall into!

GREAT book to read

Great reading for the spiritual seeker

I was introduced to the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg in the early 70's. At the time I was new to college and was taking a class in "World Religion" and learned about Swedenborg during class. His writing was never presented to me as a stand alone religion but that his writings would help me to be a better Christian, Lutheran, or provide deeper perspective into any faith. The more I learned about his writing the more I was deeply touched by what he had to say.

In the 70's Swedenborg's most essential writings were in very hard to read translations based on the original Latin writing styles of the 1800's. As a result it was very difficult to read and understand. Now we have new translations written for this century in the "Portable New Century Editions". These are excellent works written by extremely skill translators and even though the concepts have tremendous depth they are easy to understand.

If you are interested in learning what the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg have to say about the bible, and gaining a deeper understanding I can recommend these translations with no reservation. In particular, I recommend the 'New Century Editions" of; "Heaven and Hell", "Divine Love and Wisdom", "Divine Providence", translated by George Dole. I also recommend "The True Christianity Vol. 1 and 2, translated by Jonathan Rose and "Secrets of Heaven Vol. 1 and 2, translated by Lisa Hyatt Cooper.

I'm sure someone will ask me; "Well Steven, if you had to recommend only one of these books, which would it be?" Well they are all good but "Divine Love and Wisdom" is a great place to start.

Highly recommended reading for the spiritual seeker.

Some pretty far-out stuff in this volume

True Christianity was the last book published by Swedenborg during his lifetime. He died in 1772, so this is an ancient text in some respects.

This work counts as a summary, expressed in Christian terminology, of Swedenborg's life work. It covers subjects like baptism, ritual, and what a Christian church might look like if it was renewed and remade.

Shocking

Mindy Belz spent time as an Imbed reporter, making numerous trips to Iraq, Kurdistan & Syria, discovering the devastation of ISIS. The brutality of ISIS exceeds that of the Nazis & worse. They wont quit their jihad until all their enemies are brutally subjugated, dead or ISIS is killed. There is no surrender with them.

Despite this, many Christians, knowing they are targeted, choose to stay, pray, minister to and love their enemies. They choose not to fight back.

Meanwhile the west, including the USA, refuse to get involved. They refuse to except that they created this mess.

This book really helped.me identify where I am worldly and how to overcome it. Highly recommend.

Encouraging book

I recently listened to the audio version Sipping Saltwater. I found it encouraging and theologically sound. Not very preachy and down to earth. It had a good balance between the author's personal story and examples from others. The author teaches to look at things as a gift from God and not to idolize things that seem good to drink on the surface (like saltwater) but would harm you in the end. Especially refreshing to me is the author's acknowledging on many issues you can go to one extreme or the other and both are sinful. Like you can over-work or be too lazy, you can not care about your body, or on the other hand worry too much about your health. The true path to righteousness is to drink from the Living Water that only Jesus can give and find our proper relationship to ourselves and to the world around us through Him. Audible narrator Adam Verner was easy to listen to.

Gripping shocking stories. Great impact on me.

I didn't know what to expect from the title. But, I had this book read in about 48hrs. Which for me and my short attention span is a miracle. What kept me engaged was the gripping true stories with a crazy shock factor. Most important...the underlying message and moral of all these stories. You will have to read to figure that out.
