Love this book Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul

Love this book. So far, it's my favorite of all the Chicken Soup books. I highly recommend it and the seller. Arrived quickly, safely and in great condition! Definitely 5 stars!

I did not realize that this book was a very small self help book!

It is a Chicken Soup Healthy Living Series book which has eleven (11) stories in it with self-help ideas. When I purchased this book, I was well aware that it was not 101 stories, but at the same time, the book was small and I had it read in no time. There are some good points made about how to handle stress; I just thought it was going to have more stories to read that I could relate to my own life.

Another great Chicken Soup addition

This is a smaller paperback book which easily fits into my purse (or pocket, or glovebox) to have handy to read while waiting at the doctor's or dentist's office - (and better to take your own reading materials and avoid those germ-covered magazine). This is another delightful book of short stories that uplift and help us, in the now-familiar Chicken Soup style. I'm really happy with this purchase.

As always, the authors provide excellent stories and sage advice. However, I was disappointed when the book arrived. The description of the book leads one to believe that this is one of the many full-size "Chicken Soup" books available. It shoud include some sort of indication, prefereable in bold, near the title, that this is an index-card size pocket version that lacks the heft of what most of us have come to expect from "Chicken Soup" books. I hope the vendor will correct the erroneous impression given in time for their Christmas clientele to realize that this "fun size" book may be less of a gift than they wish to give.

Okay book

I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had been shorter. There was too much repetition. I actually enjoyed the hard science mixed with the philosophy of physics, but I felt that at times I was being told the same thing over and over.

Lisa Randall Rocks in the Physics World

Ms. Randall's new book, "Knocking on Heavens Door" will give the reader a good basic understanding on where theoretical phisics is on the quantum level and partical physics model, all the way up to the Cosmological universe models. She details the LHC build out, experiments, and expectations wonderfully. And carries on to particles they hope / expect to find and how they interact on the huge universal scale. It does not have religious content, so don't be polarized by the title she chose from Bob Dylan's song. The discussions of finding the Higg's boson, or other similar particle, dark matter, dark energy, etc are where we are in state of the art physics. There are no mind boggling equations, but there is discussion of the multi-verse, mult-demensional reality we may be living in and now string / Brane theory works to predict these marvelous outcomes of reality.

Give it a try, you may be the the Astro physics expert at your lunch meeting next month.

Great overview that helped me engage students

I am retired but have taught introductory physics and astronomy while studying the aurora borealis. I recently agreed to give a lecture today to 150 freshman taking a history class at the University of Alaska Fairbanks on what we've learned about our Universe since Copernicus. Your book Knocking on Heaven's Door and Lawrence Krauss's youtube talks have been invaluable to me.

Operationalizing 'Situations Matter'

Good on Sam Sommers, Tufts University psychology professor and blogger for the Huffington Post and Psychology Today.

Sam has written a terrific book in Situations Matter, one that will make you re-think how you think about your colleagues, your students, and even perhaps airline employees. His main theme, that people's behavior is always context dependent and that we overemphasize innate personality, seems blindingly obvious. But as with many things, when our actual behaviors are closely examined (as opposed to how we report how we behave), it become clear that our true actions are wildly divergent from our self-perceptions.

Turns out, we predictably and consistently make the mistake of overvaluing personality based explanations and underestimating situational reasons for behaviors. This flaw in our thinking is known as the fundamental attribution error, and none of us are immune.

Situations Matter takes us on a tour of the social psychology literature around this fundamental attribution error, with Dr. Sommers guiding us through the academic literature via some amusing storytelling (which often hinge on Dr. Sommers' own mistakes). This is definitely in the genre of pop-academic writing, accessible to a wide and general audience. But Situations Matter is also a book that undergrad psych students would learn a great deal from. One gets the sense that Sam Sommers is a wonderful teacher, in addition to being an engaging writer and an accomplished researcher - the sort of professor that we'd all like to have at our institutions.

Where Situations Matter was immediately helpful to me has been in thinking about job recruiting and project management. I am working hard to remember the lessons of Situations Matter and to think about the actions and behaviors of the people I work with (and might work with in the future) as explained by the context in which they work.

Any additional comments?

Couldn't get into the book. It goes over and over how taking some time out of your day to just think is helpful. I agree but the book comes of as little more than a Westernized, non-spiritual exhortation to meditate. I've heard the same arguments numerous times by Zen and Buddhist writers, only those spoke to me more. Maybe if Buddhism turns you off -- and books on the benefits of prayer haven't worked either -- then this might speak to you. But I found it repetitive and not told in a way that inspired me so I gave up about two-thirds through.

Average book which lacks enthusiasm and the message to be communicated! Not worth the money

Excellent narration and content

This was just what I needed to pick myself up after several interviews and being faced with redundancy. I would recommend this to anyone that needs to boost their confidence particularly enjoyed it in audio.

Seriously if you have a voice that boring at least hire a professional voice artist. I couldn't listen to more than 30 minutes - dull and pointless

Great book with a lot of good content that is broken down to as much or as little detail as you need to start taking action!

Insights you can apply immediately to become happier and more successful

The book analyzes key research for 10 actions you can make part of your immediately to change for the better. Each action has a lengthy description of the research and a "59 second" section summarizing it. The lengthy descriptions were too slow to develop and I sometimes lost interest as I read all the detail, but the punchy summaries were all quite interesting and excellent to read.

Got this rec from Eric Barker.

It was on Barker's list of must read books. It was worth it. Immensely useful, practical advice with the science to back it up. Dinner conversations for the rest of my life.
