This Book Will Make You Question What You Thought You Knew

In the beginning of the book, the author describes how science works. He describes being on a beach with the normal, everyday scientists working on the lower part of the beach, but still well above the water line doing yeoman's work, or crossing the t's and doting the i's. Further down the beach, at the water's edge are people working on new ideas that aren't radical, but that will still have a major impact on science and finally there are the scientists that are way out in the water. They are the ones that are working on science that is so far out that it will create a paradigm shift in how we think of things. This book is about 11 of those paradigm shifting theories and what they mean.

I won't describe them hereâin truth, I probably couldn't properly, even if I wanted to, but they were all mind altering in their implications. This is science on the cutting edge and will most likely expose the reader to things they had never thought about, let alone thought were possible. In addition, this science is far from settled. Scientists are still arguing about much of it, which is how science is supposed to work.

It was a very interesting book and one which I will re-read several times. The material is so foreign to what I know, or thought I knew, that I am sure I missed some of the information as I was reading. Although the author is himself a scientist, he presents the information in an easy to read and understand format. I would recommend this to anyone, but in particular to people who are interested in science and where science is headed in the future.

Mostly Just Basics, A Good Overview

This was a short and easy listen that takes less than an hour. While there wasn't anything groundbreaking, it was definitely a decent overview of how body language can be perceived by others. Since I do a lot of public speaking, and have been in a dozen different instructor training courses, it was mostly a review for me. However, I can see this being a great resource for some people that I know personally who don't always understand the message that they are radiating with their bodies. If you have problems with interpersonal relationships, do a lot of public speaking or instructing, or if you're in a position of leadership, then this is something you should definitely consider listening to. It's short enough that you could listen to it in the car or while getting ready in the morning.

Narration was pretty good as well.

A place to start...

This audiobook provides a basic introduction to body language terminology, but is certainly not what I would call "advanced". Having been through several interview and interrogation courses and utilized these techniques in the field I would have to say that this listen will give you just a basic understanding of the concept. If you are looking for an introduction to this topic then this audiobook is a good place to start and on that basis I would certainly recommend it. But if you are looking for something a bit more practical listen to The Power of Body Language: An Ex-FBI Agent's System for Speed-Reading People by Joe Navarro.

Useful and easy to read

The author presents the transcripts from five real sessions. Being a brief therapist myself, while reading them, I enjoyed how easy it was to identify the solution oriented strategies she employed, and how useful it is to have a clear structure throughout each session.

I also profited from the examples of the patient's verbalizations that make it clear she is understanding what she must do in case of a panic attack. They also help amplify her achievements, which fosters her commitment and motivation.

I totally recommend this book!

They may have experienced intrusive, abusive, or neglectful parents who taught them maladjusted ways to relate in the world.

People who display narcissistic tendencies may have been born with severely underdeveloped areas of the brain that even lead to psychopathic traits and behaviors (impulsivity, lack of remorse, intense boredom, criminal behavior). Some of these individuals go on to become CEOs while others go on to become serial killers or spouse batterers.

Good tips, but some only apply to a certain type of narcissist

This book contained useful insights and good information on how to deal with narcissists, but every tip does not necessarily apply to every type of narcissist. The book in its entirety seems to be oriented towards dealing with a who is emotionally detached and very task oriented, and perhaps unaware of their effect on others. Some of the tips presented do not apply to narcissists who might be more emotionally unstable (e.g., perhaps they have other co-occuring disorders), or particularly cunning and devious. However a great many of them probably apply to the narcissistic personality in general, so it is worth reading especially if you are in such a relationship - it might help you to manage the dynamics of the relationship better to reduce its damage to you.

Not what I expected.

I searched for a big that focused on how a man can improve communication with his spouse. Instead I got what reads like a numbered laundry list of issues with how men communicate and not real actionable feedback or tools to improve.
