I couldn't stop reading!

I fell in love with The Diary Of Anne Frank, well mostly with Peter Van Pels, and this book is what i had ever dreamed, i wanted something like this, Peter's testimony. I had never cryied with a book, and this made me cry. It has something that you can't stop. I Love it ! Best Book Ever! If you are looking for Peter Van Pels, this is for you. Im a bookworm and i have read a lot of books, but this, wow, you can feel it. Buy it!

Great book!!!

Amazing book I advice everyone to read it!!! I loved it!!! I always wondered what Peter's point of view was on his stay in the Annex and this book gives you so so much more than that!!!

Best book ever

I loved annexed the love story between anne and peter was the best part of the book and was the main idea.

Disappointed

I'm very interested in reading young adult Holocaust literature. So when I read the description of this book, I was intrigued by the option of seeing the events surrounding Anne Frank told by a different point of view. What I found was a story that rather overemphasized Peter's experiences in dealing with puberty while living in hiding. While I have no doubt that this topic was likely an issue, it overshadowed other important elements in the book. With so many stellar Holocaust accounts and stories available, this is not one I would recommend. Interesting concept, but could have been much more profound...

Excellent read for kids with reading difficulties!

First, in the interest of full disclosure, I should admit to a personal bias: I'm a HUGE fan of Elizabeth Kay's kids' fiction. That being said, even if that weren't the case, I would still heartily recommend this book for any kid who is struggling with learning disabilities but still wants to enjoy reading (or for that matter, anyone who enjoys a great story). Despite the book's short length--less than 70 pages--the story is engaging, thorough but never complicated, and surprisingly touching; while some of the imagery might be a bit intense for kids younger than eight or so, it shouldn't be a problem for anyone over that age group. Perhaps best of all, the story's grounding in classical Greek mythology is sure to get the reader asking questions, meaning plenty of opportunities for further reading and discovery.

Short but Fun

I got the pleasure to read this from the publisher. Normally I don't like short stories, mainly because it's harder for me to feel any attachment to characters or stories. Now, this book had everything another book has, just without all the extra froo-fra thrown in. I was surprised I got as attached to, well at least some of, the characters as I did. LOVED Simon and Sirius, they were cutie pies! Melanie was alright (though she had a lot to live up to, only because she has the same name as MY mom) but nothing super special. I loved the Greek Mythology aspect to it. I have been looking for some mythology based books for a while after reading most everything out there and am super excited to say I have found a good one.

Now, I do wish it was longer, but I also see the beauty in making it short. It gives you a world to live in separate from your own for a small amount of time. Lunch break and here you go, living in the world of your parents mistakes and the mythology of old.

Anyway, I would suggest if you are looking for a quick, fun read.

Cute story. My kid loves Splat. Who wouldnât ?

Cute story, great illustrations

This was the best Christmas book I bought for my 2 year old this year. The illustrations are very good, the quality of the book (pages, binding, etc) is better than most children's books I have, and the story is cute and simple enough for even young children to understand.

Splat worries that he might not have been good enough this year to get the present he wants for Christmas, and decides to be extra helpful the day before Christmas to make sure. Of course, his "help" is less than helpful, despite his good intentions.

I would definitely recommend this book for any child from 1 up to 6 or 7 years old - the illustrations will captivate younger children, while the story will resonate with those old enough to worry that THEY may not have made Santa's nice list.

Holds your attention

This story has such a clever plot. The narrator is a little stilted and unnatural at times, but overall, he's not bad. Jenny Valentine's YA books are a pleasure to listen to - definitely worth a listen if you like Jacqueline Wilson. Broken Soup is my favourite.

So easy to pretend along...

This is what the best children's books are made of: magical imagination, silly and creative instances and pure fun. One Night in the Zoo has all that and more. Kerr's carefully drawn, colorful menagerie perks the imagination and invites readers to pretend along-which we do all too willingly and discover pure fun! Little ones will love counting the animals and turning the page to see what new clever event awaits.

Well written, but...

This is a really good counting book. It rhymes well and is really a treat to read. Kids really respond to the text, however the illustrations are very disappointing. They are so pale, you have to strain so see all the great things that are being described! This pretty much eliminates it from story time use, which is a real shame because the text is simply delightful. It's a great little story about what animals at the zoo do at night and literally screams to be read aloud. Even sticking with the same medium, the illustrations could have been a bit more vibrant. Very frustrating.
