    Title: Lost and Philosophy

    Publisher's Summary:
Sometimes it feels like you need a Ph.D. to follow the show. But you don't. You just need this book in which 21 philosophers explore the deep questions we all face as survivors on this planet: Does "everything happen for a reason"? Is torture ever justified? Who are the Others? How do we know we're not patients in Hurley's psych ward? What if the Dharma Initiative is experimenting on us? Desmond may not be able to save Charlie, but this book could save you.

YES for the average LOST fan
I couldn't help but want to respond to all the low-rated side reviews I saw for this book with titles such as "Not for the average LOST fan" or "For Philosophy Majors only." Yes it IS for the average LOST fan, and NO it ISN'T for philosophy majors only. One guy said even the most fervent LOST fan wouldn't be able to follow the ideas of this book. All I have to say is YOU CAN DO it!
It DOES take some thought and it isn't something I would hand to my elementary school children, but are you smarter than a fifth grader?
Have you HONESTLY been watching LOST since season one and NOT thought about the themes of the show after you've turned off the TV? Have you honestly not pondered what you would do if you were Michael? Have you honestly not noticed how sometimes Locke seems to be the castaway's tribal medicine man, as much as he talks about destiny and what is SUPPOSED to happen (and then that smokehouse episode where he lost his voice and rescued Eko from the polar bear) and then followed that thought with "Jack is a doctor, the real medicine man. Hmmmm - no wonder they don't really get along." REALLY?
Well, if you have, and you like to read, then I really think you would like this book. Chances are pretty good that all the essays are something you've thought about after watching the show anyway.
But if you are still unsure, go to EW.com, Entertainment Weekly's web site, and go to their LOST page. Click "Doc Jensen's Analysis" tab and read (or search for) Season Three's "I'm Going to Hell for this" column and if that was too much for you to comprehend (or interest you), then this book is NOT for you, and that is a shame because this book could really enhance the show's viewing for its "fervent" fans. Fervent fans being those who have seen every episode. And really, are there any who haven't?
    Five Stars
    good book
    Was this the right time?
Somehow, I became infected with the LOST meme. If you are a fan of the show, I am sure you understand what I mean. If you are not a fan of the show, I will warn you to stay away. It is a relentless contagion! This book has only made the condition worse.
What I enjoy about the book is that it highlights my favorite aspects of the show. One could certainly enjoy LOST at various levels. Some friends and family have infatuations with various characters. Sawyer apparently is the quintessential bad boy that good girls desire, while Libby seems to be the good girl that some of real life bad boys want to turn bad. At the same time, the plot lines are complex and most often unpredictable. Most importantly, in my opinion, the show is an enjoyable example of guerilla ontology. We are challenged to new concepts and ideas through cognitive dissonance.

Title: Navigating the Collapse of Time
Subtitle: A Peaceful Path Through the End of Illusions
    Author: David Ian Cowan
    Narrator: David Ian Cowan
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 32 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-07-10
    Publisher: Hudson Audio Publishing
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 23 votes
    Genres: Nonfiction, Philosophy
    Publisher's Summary:
Earth Changes - Yes it Does! is an adventure into expansive awareness - of who we, humanity, are, where we have come from and where we are going. Much has been said about "2012" and this time of epic change, yet it is only in seeing the whole subject in the widest context that a truly peaceful interpretation is possible.
Listen as lecturer and teacher Dave Cowan weaves together the tale of human origins with galactic alignments, DNA research, the magnificent Mayan time keeping system, and the fundamental need for non-dual spiritual awakening, both personal and collective. The theme here is one of peace...what is transpiring is a greater revolution than we have ever experienced...that of planetary healing and the full realization of our Oneness with All That Is.

Clear, Concise, and a Great Listen
Would you listen to Navigating the Collapse of Time again? Why?
It contains a lot of information with many references that beautifully tie together. Its a good idea to listen a couple times because there are things I didn't catch first time around because of the amount of information.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Navigating the Collapse of Time?
    Any additional comments?
Not a pretentious, in your face kind of book but rather a cohesive recollection of ideas that David Cowan has put together all in one place for the convenience of the reader/listener. He states in the beginning that he is not trying to convince anyone his ideas but rather inform you of a different way of looking at things in the World. Take it or leave it attitude. Its a very exciting book and If you keep an open mind this could be a real treasure to you.
    Thoroughly enjoyable
Cowan seems to be one of those well-balanced New-Age writers (perhaps calling him a New Ager is somewhat of a misnomer); he style is easy on the ear and he manages to clarify his concepts with easy and accessibility.
Unlike so many other, Cowan seems not to suffer from the excruciation of over-inflated ego, and his down to earth but serious and honest attitude makes it a pleasure to listen to his reflections.
This writer/philosopher realizes that truth is relative to each person's view point and he allows amply for the reader's varying insight.
Well worth the read, and perhaps should be read a few times over an extended period - I suspect one will gain much every time one listens to the book again.
One grump, however, but this is not the author's fault. The first ten minutes or so are repeated twice and a similar repetition occurs somewhat later again. This is purely bad editing and Audible should really be more careful with this process. Why would the finishing quality of an audible book be of a lower standard than a properly printed book?

With the help of twenty "24 crazed" philosophers, you'll figure out what makes this guy tick, and much much more. A witty, but philosophical exploration of the popular television series 24.

so it was nice to revisit it
My son and I are 24 fans, so we know the episodes to which the book refers. The book helps us to understand the philosophy behind it, and to ask questions about what we would do in such awful circumstances. It really makes you think. I haven't studied philosophy since college, so it was nice to revisit it.
The whole family was drooling over it!
I sent this as a gift to my Mom who is a die hard Jack fan for Christmas. As more of my family joined us for holiday visits, everyone was drawn to the coffee table where this book as proudly laid out. Everyone was drooling over this book and wanted to flip through it and wanted to know where I got it so they can go out and buy it too.
... it came on a day early which was really great!!
the book is very handy and came in on time or actually it came on a day early which was really great!!!!

You are The Master even if you don't think you are.
Explains Man's involvement in causes and effects which make up our lives thus creating our Destiny through our own deeds (actions) and usually without being aware that we have done so. An excellent read and highly informative.
    Review of Mastery of Destiny
James Allen is a serious philosopher with answers to many of life's most important questions. If you are a serious thinker about life and the nature of reality, this is for you. If you are not a person who can think for himself and know all you want to know already, you would not like it. But as for me I find all of James Allen's works to be tremendously helpful

By the end of his life, D. H. Lawrence had despaired of Western civilization, which he felt had corrupted and weakened the human spirit. He believed that we had somehow lost touch with our instinctual being and no longer responded to the "true voice" of our blood. His works were an attempt to revive a life we have lost, and in them it is possible to glimpse something vivid, something now damaged, that we nonetheless recognize in ourselves. This is his undeniable legacy.
    D. H. Lawrence in 90 Minutes offers a concise, expert account of Lawrence's life and ideas and explains their influence on literature and on man's struggle to understand his place in the world. The book also includes a list of Lawrence's chief works, a chronology of his life and times, and recommended reading for those who wish to delve deeper.
