Not for me

I'm a guy, and it became quickly obvious that this was not written for guys. It's a lite, mostly clean read with a predictable plot and very little character development (especially for the guys in the story). What I missed most are the kind of insights to the character's thinking that say a Lynn Austin or Francine Rivers will give you throughout the story. There's some Christian thinking sprinkled thoughout the story, and I did appreciate some of the attention on the PTSD counseling there. I'm probably being extra cynical but certain cliche phrases kept recurring throughout the book, especially in describing the guys, which strikes me as lazy writing. I don't understand the cultural fascination with the "tall, dark, and brooding" (a phrase used 11x of the main guy) love interest that the girl pursues despite the abusive way he treats her. The twilight series, 50 Shades, etc. thrives on damaged women with savior complexes leading many other women into thinking this is some sort of ideal man to pursue. Why? It's confusing to me in a Christian book like this. Sprinkle in some Christian doctrine, some Bible verses and a hope that God will step in and save the man before the dating relationship becomes too overwhelmingly physical (spoiler alert: He does). Sometimes I wonder if such women really want these men saved and submitted to King Jesus since it often seems the mysterious, dangerous dark and brooding nature of the man is what attracts them. In contrast, the kind, boringly normal suiters who pursue the main character are quickly written off as idiot/ jerks mostly for minor idiosyncracies. What kind of message does literature like this teach my sons or my daughters (if God should grant me those too) about the ideal man a Christian girl should want to have pursuing her.

I really liked this book!

I read a review of this book that had me thinking this was going to be a book I would have to grit my teeth and bear through. As I got halfway through the book though I started wondering if we were reading the same book. In no way, shape or form was Jake abusive toward Lyndie.

After Jake let himself love Lyndie he was so sweet.

Great read and listen..

WOW! Theres a lot of one and two star reviews on Amazon but I, personally, found this book wonderful. While Olivia hadnt a clue what the heck she was doing when it came to Annabelle she was willing to learn. She was so afraid that if she gave Annabelle to someone else in the family, someone with kids that knew what they were doing, she would be failing her sister, thats why she hung on so hard. I could also see why there was a push-pull situation with Brad.

I love second-chance stories, and Brad and Olivias story was awesome. They loved each other unconditionally when they were teenagers. AND the sexual tension between the two of them couldnt have been written any better. I LOVE sexual tension. Better than the sex itself. If all authors who write sex in their books would learn how to write sexual tension all romance books with sex- would be so much better.

A word that really bothers me when reading reviews on these kinds of books is predictable. Really? If youre read a simple love story, no mystery, no suspense, no murder, no real drama to speak of, how would it not be predictable. Boy and girl, how they meet, or met again, they fall in love and have a HEA. Yeah, thats pretty predictable. Its every love story out there, just the story has changed. Thats why Ive started reading romance mysteries and romance spy books. I was getting so tired of page after page of a love story, sometimes 300 or 400 pages of angst and misunderstandings and more pages of filler in order to bring the page count up that high. Simple romance novels just arent that entertaining anymore. However, this one was a free read-free listen so I decided to give it a chance, and it only has 210 pages. AND I thought it was really good.

Overall, this was a nice predictable love story with great secondary characters, Alex, Tom and Meg. Even Trish and Kevin sounded like a really nice couple, even though they were dead from the beginning of the book.

There was swearing and the F-bomb was said 3 times.

As to the narration: I absolutely love Amy McFaddens narration. She has so much emotion when she reads. Men sound like men and thats the most important thing for a female reader to know how to do.

Ok book and terrible narration..

I love second chance stories but up until about 25% I thought this was a really bad story. THEN I realized it wasnt the story but the narrator. I turned off the audio and enjoyed the rest of the book by just reading it.

This was about Dawson and Sage who fell in love five years before when they were both part of the rodeo. At the end of having sex and being threatened with a shotgun by Dawsons wife Sage left and that was the end of that. Or so Sage thought. Dawson shows up in Marietta, Montana where Sage now owns a chocolate store, but she refuses to forgive him, but he keeps trying to explain what was happening with his wife.

Eventually, she did forgive him but it was sudden! Once she saw is divorce papers she was over being mad at him. I mean, sudden like in five minutes time.

There was no sex or swearing in this story.

As to the narration: It was terrible. The men sounded like women and all Emily Cauldwell did was read the book. No emotions, no nothing. I would not listen to her again.

Good story!

I enjoyed this book! The characters were entertaining especially Savannah! I would have liked a little more of an epilogue but it was a good ending.

The narrator was irritating with her sing songy voice. The same monotone for each character, they all sounded the same. I don't feel the right emotions were played out in the narration.

The story was predictable and dragged on in some areas. The characters were corny.

Another super book

Kathleen Brooks does it again!! I barely paused this book. I love her character development and the messes Bree get into and out of, some on her own but mostly with the help of family and Logan (the perfect man, that can truly replace no man!!). I think this book is one of her best.

disappointing after an interesting preview

I really like Kathleen Brooks, and own many volumes of the two Blue Grass series. I enjoy this family overall and was disappointed in the daughter who served as main character in this book. She wasn't decisive enough for the career field and position she's supposedly in.

I don't think Ms. Brooks had a real life role model from which to build this character in a believable way, and/or she's not doing enough research when she departs from small town Americana POV (the kind used in the Blue Grass books). It's been obvious for some time which person is going to end up with the brother, so the character build up for book four that one gets in this book is unnecessary to read.

I was disappointed enough in books two and three that at this time I've never purchased the fourth book to see how it ends.

I love Amy and have listened to a lot of her narration. She's got a voice that holds your interest and brings all the different characters to life beautifully. She does an exception job on this book and I hope she continues to narrate this series.

Another fabulous story in the Women of Power series. I love the character development and that these fictional woman are great role models to woman in general. Bree can take care of business and handle her own as well or better than any man.

Beatifully written!

This would be one of my fav contemporaries of all time. It has everything a contemporary book should have. And it is AMAZING!

This book is so funny and cute and adorable and emotional and thrilling and swoon-worthy. There are just so many scenes that I love so much. I just love every aspect from this book.

Both of the author & audiobook narrator captured Celeste's voice perfectly. She was very sheltered in the beginning of the book and I love the way she tried to break out of her shell little by little until she became a full-fledged duckling(is this even the right metaphor?). There are definitely character growth for all of the characters in this book. And all of the characters were so lovely and there is not one thing I hate about the characters.

In all of the funny, cute, emotional scenes, ect. There's a message that Jessica Park is trying to deliver. This book is about acceptance towards yourself. Accept who you are, love who you are, be yourself, don't change yourself for society and I think she nailed that.

A must-read to every contemporary lovers. And just everyone, literally. Like, really. Read it. I guarantee you, there'll be no regrets involved by the end of this book.

Celeste is a character i course relate to, she was trying to change to fit in the world and then she understood she didn't need to change to be happy! Amazing story!!

I thought "Flat-Out Love" was a great read, and this book was even better! Celeste and Justin were both such lovable characters! I highly recommend this series! Movie rating would be PG-13 for some language and sexual situations.

The slow progress on transition in their mental stability was annoying at times but i loved rge story. great job author .

Wonderful ending. After reading the books in this series I was worried how this one would end. Kiro's love for Emily was beautiful to read.

l could not put it down.

Sebastian York has the voice to keep a good story great. It's nice to wish that there is an Emily out there to love little angel when their own parent didn't see the gift they had.
