I will love you all night long...
Would you consider the audio edition of Hold Me Closer Necromancer to be better than the print version?
I listened to the audiobook first, and frankly, the audiobook kept me on edge all day/night long. Just like a printed book, I couldn't put it down - i would have kept my headphones on and let myself listen to it in the dark, but I'm not going to lie... on occasion, this book gave me the heebie-jeebies.
What did you like best about this story?
Everything? The pacing, the plot, the character development - probably the characters, and how familiar they become. Each character is well-developed, and I can see myself knowing and loving these characters in real life, especially Sam.
I would have said it started slow, but frankly, I think it needed it, because that momentum at the end would have been too fast if it hadn't had the slow build of character and plot development - no action by any character ever surprised me, and for me, that's a good thing - I feel like when the plot finally resolved, my thoughts were "YES, this is right and correct."
What does Jonathan Todd Ross and Chris Sorensen bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I think Jonathan Todd Ross' performance is amazing - I can't imagine Sam with any other voice now, and frankly, I can hear it in my head as I think about the book. That character voice develops the character even further, putting in details about him that while not written, I think are implied by subtext in the book. His sarcasm, dry wit - even his anger and other emotions are truly drawn out by Ross' performance in a way that it just can't in print...
    Any additional comments?
I truly enjoyed this book, and I would categorize it as a spiritual successor to "Good Omens" or "The Dresden Files" - NOT those sparkly vampire copycats. It's humor is sharp and dry, with pop-culture and music references all over the place. This book has brains and literary brawn.
This book was recommended to me and I will happily recommend it to you, whoever you are.
    Fun and Quirky..
A hilarious and entertaining read with a ton of spook and even more wit, HOLD ME CLOSER, NECROMANCER is a read no fan of the paranormal should miss; think less Twilight more Buffy.
Samhain Corvus LaCroix (or just Sam) and his friends' (a motley group of misfits and slackers) reality is turned upside-down and inside-out, after an unfortunate shot during a casual game of potato hockey behind the Plumpy Burgers where they all work .

    Will I get there?
the story is good you keep listening intensely waiting for the story to start, which takes about 5 hrs before the pilot ends and the action start.
    good voice on the narrartor
Real and one of my favorite listens
A touching, tactful, and entertaining novel. The plot is very simple, and it revolves around a 13-year old, his family, his dog, and a friend. The narrator does a fantastic job; I especially liked his rendering of the mother, which kept me entertained through the first half of the novel, where little seems to happen. The essays at the end of the story helped me locate the novel in its context. I wish I could have read this as a teenager, and reading it now pleased the teenage inside of me immensely.

Another great book for listeners of all ages
I'm still batting 1.000 with books I've listened to with my daughter. This book, from the Sunshine State Readers' List for 2013-14, is another gem. It's funny, keeps you interested, teaches life lessons and makes you wonder where all the great books were when you were a kid. My only complaint is the rather deliberate narration. Even my 10-year-old daughter urged the narrator to pick things up a bit. The audible book, accompanied by the paper or Kindle version, help with developing young reader skills, in my opinion. There seems to be synergy at work. Recommend that you and your child give this one a listen.
very satisfied with the story glad I found it. I
I found the story well written.I enjoy beachy environments the story line put me exactly in that type of setting that I enjoy so very much... great read!!!
    Cute story
Would you listen to Touch Blue again? Why?
My daughter had to read it for class. It was a cute book. A little cheesy, but defiantly better on audible than just reading it. We did both.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it wasn't that gripping of a story.
    Any additional comments?
A light fun story for kids.

    Members Reviews:
Suspenseful tension through last word to next book
Andrew Lane has launched a literary fictional giant from a solid foundation. This first novel has proven he has the quality of storytelling to place us inside the youthful mind of Sherlock Holmes. What is remarkable is that Lane avoids the temptation to make Sherlock older than he is, which is to say, while he remains heroically ingenious, he courts luck and shocks himself with his own perceptibility or lack thereof. Five stars to Mr. Weyman, who breathes life into Sherlock's tutor in a most respectable way. Please keep making audible recordings of the other books in the series.
    For fans of Alex Rider
On summer break from school, a young Sherlock Holmes finds a mentor and encounters his first mystery.
This was too much like an Alex Rider novel, perhaps deliberately. Although I like Alex Rider, Sherlock Holmes' adventures, even as (or especially as) a teenager, should be more cerebral and less violent.
There's an occasional good nugget, like when Sherlock develops the self-knowledge that he's not a good storyteller, and that he needs someone in his life to put his experiences in narrative form. Or the small fear that he enjoyed the experience of being drugged when kidnapped. But overall the mystery was predictable and the action ranged from extreme to ridiculous.
    I love the concept
As an ardent Sherlock Holmes fan I wanted to love this book!! However, this is a "OK" listen. Maybe next time?
Not Arthur Conan Doyle, but who cares?
Where does Death Cloud rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    Near the top
What does Daniel Weyman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    excellent narrator
    Any additional comments?
This is excellent family fair. Fast paced and very interesting. The ending is complete, but sets up for many sequels which I hope come soon.
Great undocumented spin on early Sherlock Holmes
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Any one who loves Sherlock Holmes stories and adventures, and who has grown to love his life story... will really love the early years version of Sherlock life that is depicted in this book.
What did you like best about this story?
This story involved Sherlock entire family and starts to give a basis of where he came from and the events that led him in his life to become the worlds Greatest Consulting Detective
Which character as performed by Daniel Weyman was your favorite?
Definitely Sherlock... with a close second of Amios Crow
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
All great men through out history have extrodinary lives right fromt he start..... watch and learn the interesting events that turn a gangly smart normal boy, into the world greatest Detective
    Any additional comments?
I can't wait for the second book....

    What a Surprise!
First of all, I wanted to let you know that this book is actually way better than it sounded or looked. This had been the most refreshing YA novel I've listened to for a very long time. I'm sure people in any age would enjoy it tremendously. I wasn't sure about it at first because I usually read YA paranormal romance, but when I saw the review on Amazon.com, I decided to take a chance. Turns out to be a fantastic decision. There's mystery, friendship, romance, heartbreaking betrayals........So much unexpected twists and turns. I personally had so much fun listening to it that I finished it in one day. I simply cannot find anything to criticize about this book, and I don't think you will be able to either.
    Great Story Great Performance
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I really enjoyed this book. I loved all of the characters and how the narrator brought them to life. This is a standalone book and although the story was resolved I really was left wanting the story to continue. Not because the story was lacking but because it was such a good story that I wanted it to continue.
    A chance worth taking!
Would you listen to The False Princess again? Why?
Absolutely! It was nothing like I expected.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The False Princess?
I loved that she was brave and eager to do teh right thing, even when the King 7 Queen turned their backs on her!
    Worth a listen
Well performed, and a good listen overall. With all the confusion of babies switched at birth, the question of royalty and identity, magic and intrigue, I quite enjoyed the story... right up until the end, when the plot twist that I'd been anticipating failed to materialize. The twists and turns provided - quite regularly, and appropriately, given the subject material - were all thrilling, but the final twists had all been laid out by 2/3 of the way through the book with nothing to follow at the ultimate climax. I kept listening thinking, 'How is this going to end? With three hours left to go, there's bound to be SOME twist; I bet it's ____.

See, Sabine isn't just an ordinary girl. She's a mara, the living personification of a nightmare. She can read people's fears - and craft them into nightmares while her victims sleep. Feeding from human fear is how she survives.
And Sabine isn't above scaring Kaylee and the entire school to death to get whatever - and whoever - she wants.
    Members Reviews:
    Prepare for Emotional Torture
Yes, I loved the other three books, but the first half of this one is a heavy dose of emotional torture. The angst, jealousy, and fear is palpable and painful. I was ready to give up this series. Nash's xgirlfriend is a nightmare, literally, and I could have dealt with that if he wasn't such a royal pain in the butt as well. Even Todd is spouting crap disguised as wisdom. In the second half, the author lets us in on her clever little twist involving the Hellion of Envy, but by that time I almost didn't care anymore if Kaylee kept Nash or gave him up to Sabine and since that issue was never really resolved we have to wait for the next book.
    My Soul to Steal
I've really enjoyed this series so far. This one is, however, my least favorite. Kaylee absolutely drove me crazy throughout nearly the whole thing. She wants Nash back and wants to give him her trust again but refuses to give him the chance to earn it. She's understandably hurt and feels betrayed, but she also understands that the things Nash did, and let happen to her, happened because he wasn't himself at the time. If she truly wanted him back, you'd think she would want to be there for him and help him through the healing process and give him a chance to prove his sincerity. I wouldn't have blamed Nash in the least if he had dropped Kaylee like hot potato for Sabine, who is supportive and non-judgmental in his time of need, rather than Kaylee who, at every turn, is pointing out his faults and reminding him of how badly he screwed up.
Yes, Sabine is a creepy character. But deep down, she's insecure and hurting. Because of who she is, she has a difficult time making friends. Nash is the only one who has ever given her a chance and loved her despite what she is. I really can't blame her for trying to get him back. Because of what she is, she has to try so hard for every nugget of friendship and love she gets.
Tod and Harmony remain my favorite characters.

    Brilliant!
McKinty is a wonderful storyteller and he has really written something special in this Lighthouse series. I was more familiar with his gritty, gory crime novels but Lighthouse series is completely different. I loved the vivid imagination and that the main characters were teens who have to work together, use history lessons, physics, trigonometry and other sciences to problems solve. McKinty also throws in large helpings of humor that truly made me laugh out loud. Gerald Doyle is a wonderful narrator -- young, old , male, female, Irish, American -- he can do it all.
If you have a youngster who can't quite focus on school, these books may help with that. After all, if you would like to be a valued person during an Intergalactic War, you need to know math, chemistry, history etc, etc, not to mention what to do if you fall in love with an alien ,,, a bit of a sticky wicket that.
    Wating for the next book
Although I am 61 years old I still enjoy a good novel. Adrian McKinty has written a very good one. I will be waiting for the next book.
    Pleasant Surprise!
I was looking for something new to listen to. This is a great listen! Action, adventure, laugh out loud funny! The narrator is very nice to listen to and that can really make or break a book on Audible for me! Can't go wrong with this one! Can't wait to listen to the next one!
    great escapism
wonderful imaginative story. good narration recognized his accent from Eragon; enjoyed him then also. suspend belief and enjoy the story; makes me smile to remember the story. Enjoyed it so much I purchased 2 right away and then had to hear the conclusion of number 3!!!
    Not Quite Harry Potter
What disappointed you about The Lighthouse Land?
I know that it is intended for pre-teens but while the plot is okay, the action is really implausible.

    Not So Much
I didn't hate this book, honestly I felt nothing, and I think that might be worse. Eileen Stevens and Michal Friedman where not very good. They distracted me more then anything and we all know nothing ruins an audiobook more then that.
It is quite short and a whole lot of nothing very interesting happens. It somehow had the ability to feel rushed and complicated and also very slow and really freaking simple. Figure that one out will ya? Lots of long complicated Vampire clans (clans?) Like 4 different types of Vampires... one type was even blue? it was all very confusing.
AND last but certainly not least the romance is flat at best. I think it goes without saying I do not recommend this one.
    Fluffy young adult paranormal romance

Solange has lots of support her seven gorgeous brothers, her powerful parents, several bodyguards, and her best friend Lucy who may not have any supernatural stuff going on, but whos got enough guts and spunk to hold her own. Solange has enemies, too, of course. Not just Lady Natasha and her evil minions, but also vampire hunter Kieran Black whos out to prove himself worthy of his calling by bringing down the infamous Solange Drake.
Hearts at Stake, the first novel in Alyxandra Harveys DRAKE CHRONICLES, is a really fluffy young adult paranormal romance. This isnt usually my thing (okay, its never my thing), but the DRAKE CHRONICLES books were on sale, so Im giving them a try. Hearts at Stake is fun, silly, light, and requires no mental effort. The plot is mostly predictable and the writing is far from elegant (example: I scowled at the open bag, panting and scowling.). The two heroines, Solange and Lucy, are likeable girls and will appeal to most teenagers. As is often the case in teenage romance novels, Solange does occasionally stupid things that seem to serve the plot more than her own survival.
All the boys are nearly indistinguishable from each other and they display those annoying masculine behaviors that, for some reason, teenage girls seem to find irresistible: jaw and fist clenching, growling, wrist grabbing, backing girls up against the walls, etc.
