We live here, my girl, because it is close to the Way, and echoes of its magic are felt in our world. The Way is a path leading to another place, where the people are governed by different rules. Magic runs through them and their land.
With her boundless curiosity and wild spirit, Fer has always felt that she doesnt belong. Not when the forest is calling to her, when the rush of wind through branches feels more real than school or the quiet farms near her house. Then she saves an injured creature - he looks like a boy, but hes really something else. He knows who Fer truly is, and invites her through the Way, a passage to a strange, dangerous land.
Fer feels an instant attachment to this realm, where magic is real and oaths forge bonds stronger than iron. But a powerful huntress named the MÓr rules here, and Fer can sense that the land is perilously out of balance. Fer must unlock the secrets about the parents she never knew and claim her true place before the worlds on both sides of the Way descend into endless winter.
Sarah Prineas captivates in this fantasy-adventure about a girl who must find within herself the power to set right a terrible evil.

A Pleasure for My Daughter and I!
Would you listen to Winterling again? Why?
My daughter, Mercy, will probably listen to it 5 to 7 times and I will have no problem listening to it three times. It is fast-paced, and holds attention very well.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Winterling?
Why spoil it? Let's just say the way she goes into the other world is cool!
    Which scene was your favorite?
    Why spoil it?
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Definitely.
    Any additional comments?
Excellent book for my 11-year-old daughter! There are many things to be learned from this book. The main character Jenni---FER begins to find out who she is and realize that she has a God-given destiny. She has to be willing to risk danger and do what is right in spite of the fact that no one else is doing it in order to find out what her mother and father were about and what can be done about the dismal state of the world she finds herself in.___________I was particularly glad to see the use of devices like a threefold oath (being a minister, we say a threefold Amen at the end of service which is a covenantal oath). __________ This book also teaches what Constantine learned, that springtime and resurrection doesn't have to come through pagan blood sacrifice, but can truly come when the "real" and rightful ( Queen in this case, but could be King) steps into their rightful leadership role. The slaves are set free!Top-notch!_______________________Since this guided review didn't ask about the reader, let me just say that the reader here is top-notch! She does not get too shrill and she keeps the pace well. Her voice is very believable as the protagonist. And I enjoyed the way she did the "Puck". I will look for more books which you read-- and so will my daughter.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I had been listening for a little over an hour when I noted that parts of this book were missing. Sure enough turning to the hard back I saw pages and pages of this illustration were missing.... VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!
Has Destined turned you off from other books in this genre?

What about Caitlin Daviess performance did you like?
I don't know how CAITLIN DAVIES'S could miss pages from DESTINED as small as this book is?

    Amazing book
I have read this so many times its is so good
I like the way Bethany keeps contact Xavier through her love
I would recommend this book to everybody
    Great but
I love this book so much. But the recording is really glitchy. Great book bad recording your better off reading the book then listening to it.
Love vs. Hate - Love will always win
I really enjoyed this story, I had fun listening and trying to figure out how much is a limo rental in hell. Nice to listen, a little over the edge, many questions unanswered like.. why would an angel need to graduate from high school? Bottom line - This is a very nice story, was a bit slow at the beginning, however; after a while was not able to put my device down. I really enjoyed the story, however; as mention before the story is a bit over the edge.

    prepare yourself
for mediocre cliches and not so subtle religious subjects. The plot is predictable and the characters are one dimensional and lack common sense in basic military strategy. Its no wonder they need a God to save them. Tim Gregory is a talented narrator and has a good vocal range and consistency for each character. His Ss are sharp sharpand raspy in ear buds.
    music
the music through our I didn't care for. other wise the performance was really nice.
    awesome!
This book is awesome finished it in 36hrs.
The narrator was good the time lapse between the chapter could be better.
    Fair and Predictable
There is nothing "wrong" with this book, it follows the prescribed formula to a Tee but it lacks the luster and polish that some of the other books in other series by Mr. Lawhead. I wish I could say outright what the problem is with this one was, whether it was the narration or the book itself but it just fails to grab you and hold on. I am sure I will finish the series and I pray I am not totally disappointed.
    Peace is at an end
Ten years of peace in Mensandor comes to an end, when the world is attacked by the Warlords of Nin. Quentin is named heir and successor to the throne by Eskavar, but first he is sent on a quest. Along the way he fulfills a prophecy. A brilliant sequel to In the Hall of the Dragon King. Stephen Lawhead is a master of his art. Tim Gregory delivers a great performance.

    Great next step
Excited to give this to my god daughter, as she loves Junie B. Jones.
    Divorce...tons of trouble!
Karen is going through tough times when her parents are getting divorced. She and her grandpa try to make it better but nothing worked! To take the children's mind off the divorce, but Karen's big brother Jeff ran away! I give this 5 out of 5 because once you start reading it, you can't stop until you finish, which happens to me with tons of books, but this one was amazing! If you are interested in this style of book, other books by the author, Judy Blume are described in the back of this amazingly written book...I hope you enjoy!
    Good
Reallly good I love it I want more books by Judy Blume I think it was a really good book good for teens also
    revisited my childhood
I remember reading this many years ago as an adolescent. Now I can see through the eyes of an adult how accurately Judy Blume portrays each family member's emotions and the realities of divorce.
Greatest Hits is Great but Judy Blume is Awesomely Great
This is the best way to learn about divorced couples who are in your life. It can also be a great book for kids (tween girls especially!) for twenty minutes of reading. Also you can just get the chance to see (read) how family members and their families do not always get along. Also if you read why she wrote this "book of life."

    a good story, WELL performed
No religious profanity! that is something I refuse to expose myself to but I have found much more difficulty avoiding than it should be. A good story and performed extremely well - WELL DONE!
    A brilliant conclusion
A brilliant conclusion to the Hall of the Dragon King trilogy, Stephen Lawhead' s first fantasy series. Nimrood is back, after he used his dark magic to put his soul into a raven to escape death. Now he is human and stirring up trouble in Mensandor. First he convinces the priests to turn against the Dragon King, and rouse the people against him. He kidnaps King Quentin' s son Gerin, and as a result Quentin loses his faith and his sword, which was put into his hands by the High Lord. A great book, a great series and well narrated by Tim Gregory.

    Excellent Stoty
If you could sum up Flat Broke in three words, what would they be?
Shows differences between good and bad.
What other book might you compare Flat Broke to and why?
Excellent narration. Good book. This has its own identity.
Have you listened to any of Joshua Swanson???s other performances before? How does this one compare?
    wonderful story. Nice Introduction.
UhSo FIVE of a kind beats FOUR of a kind?
What did you like best about this story?
Kevin Spencer is 14 going on 35 and the funniest kid character you want to meet. I am a 50+ year old female but thought this book was Laugh Out Loud funny as you hear the enterprising young Kevin and his innocent but adult savvy take on earning an "honest" living. Gary Paulsen is such a witty writer and I plan on reading the rest of The Kevin series. The book brought me back to my own childhood and all the fun dreams that I had at his age. There is nothing like a clever "Young Adult" book to keep you young at heart!
What about Joshua Swansons performance did you like?
He is the perfect reader for this book. His hysterical voices exactly recreate kids in the teenage years and I though I was listening to my own nieces and nephews instead of an adult.
    Mindless entertainment
The more stressed at work that I am - the more juvenile my book selections.
    Entertaining for ages 6 - 40...
We loved this series. It helped entertain me and the three kids, ages 6, 7 and 11, on our way to school and back each day. Amazing how a book tape can teach a lesson and keep the peace in the car.
I hope there will be more books like this added to the series.
It is a good book. Nice Story
Would you try another book from Gary Paulsen and/or Joshua Swanson?
    Nice Story.Wonderful book.Nice Theme. wonderful.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Nice book. Beautiful narration. Excellent. wonderful.
What three words best describe Joshua Swanson???s performance?
    excellent narration. Amazing book.Nice. Wonderful.

    Critic Reviews:
This penultimate epic... is emotionally astute and brimming with vivid detail. (
    Kirkus Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
    Great story grating narration...
From the pronunciation of names to the rubbish accents to the main characters sounding dim witted somehow, the narration for the crow was really disappointing for me. I felt that all the characters were dimmed by it. Still I was/am invested in the story and had purchased it so I listened to the whole thing. I have rarely if ever given an audio book a bad review and to be fair I feel that this narrator is not so much bad at narration but was just not right for this story. He strikes me as being someone I'd choose to read a book for much younger listeners.
The story is AWESOME. The narration is HORRID!!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Using the same narrator for all four books would have made this experience wonderful!! Eloise Oxer did such a fantastic job with the rest of the series. Colin Moody would have made a good computer voice, dull, monotone, dreary and therefore annoying. I couldn't even get through one chapter. I would adore hearing this story redone using Eloise. I regret downloading this version.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Hem and Crow were the characters I wanted to follow in this book.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
His voice was very Text to Speech. Monotone doesn't even begin to describe the awful sound. He has no inflection, no sense of using his voice to portray different characters, and no sense of timing or dramatic pauses. Please don't let him read any more of your books!!!
What character would you cut from The Crow?
none. Alison Croggon wrote a wonderful story that fits perfectly into the series.
    Any additional comments?
    Fire this narrator immediately.
    Great Story, Worst Narrator
Would you try another book from Alison Croggon and/or Colin Moody?
The Books of Pellinor are one of my favorite series, and I'd be interested in reading anything else Alison Croggon creates. However, I will never purchase another audio book narrated by Colin Moody. His voice is bland, his accents are horrid and his dictation overall was very difficult to listen to. He mispronounced many words specific to this book, and I had to reimagine all of the dialogue in the book to match the tone and setting of the story as well as the personality of the character because I thought his impression did not make any sense at all. There was scant emotion or feeling put behind any of the words. He did a disservice to the Alison Croggon's beautifully created world and story.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Colin Moody?
I would have stayed with Eloise Oxer for all of the books.

    Great Narrator
The narrator of this title made this book that much more clever and hilarious. It was poignant without being pretentious, and funny without resorting to cheap humor. A great read. I only gave it four stars because the plot dragged just a bit towards the end.
