What made the experience of listening to A Killing Frost the most enjoyable?

Marsden mixed some many emotions, it's like he telling several stories at once.

This series is great. Highly recommend.

The 3rd day the frost a great book

The third day the frost was a great book. Very suspenseful couldn't put it down. I finished the book in one day and the whole series in less than a week. Not much of a reader but these books I would recommend to anybody. The only thing I didn't like as they change the narrator on the last two books of the Ellie chronicles. I was already used to thinking the main character (Ellie's) voice sounded like Suzi Dougherty so that was a bummer. But if you can get past that Great books.

Not just for teenagers, brilliant third book!

Firstly we loved the first and second book and couldn't wait to start the third book in the series. This series really does keep you wanting more and its written so well, the narrator also really adds to the enjoyment of this audiobook. Its by far the best series of books we have enjoyed in a long time and we thank the author for coming up with such a great story line. As for this book in particular the book covers the obvious fatigue in fighting and surviving the war without trying to get caught. They are always on edge and do their best to help the war effort to get their country back. This is no easy task and in this book they come across a lot of hard challenges and have to deal with some rather difficult situations. We feel the book is written incredibly well because often you feel like you are personally involved. It explores themes such as the killing of people and the guilt involved no matter what the reason for doing it is (such as self defence). It deals very well with situations and emotions that have to be buried as its more important trying to stay alive, but obviously these feelings will come out at some point. This book is all about their desperate need to survive, hoping for help and to escape the war but also struggling with the weight of the responsibility of fighting the war and feeling like someone else should be in charge as they are just teenagers after all. You've got to remember they are always on edge of being caught, scared of being killed or their families suffering for their actions. This book certainly throws a lot at you, lots of different situations that will keep you griped.

Childhood Still Fresh

I was originally given copies the first three Edge Chronicle books from a guy in high school that didn't like to read, but he knew I did. Initially I was very judgemental of the covers and ignored them. Then one day, after finishing a separate series I found the first book catching my eye. From the moment I cracked the cover to the moment I first finished the third book in the series I was captivated. I recently was gifted a new Kindle Fire HD and this was the first title that jumped out to me that I had purchased when I had the first model Kindle. I finished it at a break neck pace and I love it just as much as the first time I read it. The author does such a wonderful job of immersing me his world. It is hard to break away from and now knowing that there are so many in the series I'm about to live there for a while. The art is great, the writing is simple but elegant, you fall in love with characters you've only just met, and the violence is abrupt.

LOVE THESE BOOKS!!

I don't like to read too much..in fact, if you ask anyone who really knows me, they will tell you I pretty much HATE reading. However, I picked up the first book to this "Edge Chronicles" series and fell in love with it. Decided I had to get the next 2, I started to read them avidly, I had already read them before I purchased the first 3 in the series because I had borrowed them from my local library. So I knew what I was getting into. Seriously, I think these books are a great read.

Great reading for boys.

My son loves this book, he's 11 and says it's got a good lesson to it. Nice to find interesting books for boys that don't involve Wimpy Kids and cartoon drawings, especially around his age! Probably contains some questionable language, but we've spoken about that, so it's not a big issue for us.

Start of a thrilling series

"The Great Tree of Avalon: Child of the Dark Prophecy" is the first book in the new series by T.A. Barron. Avalon is literally a tree, planted by the wizard Merlin, and people live in the seven lands comprised of its roots. The story starts with a prophecy, babies, and flight from danger, capturing the reader's imagination right from the start.

The gist of the book is that the fate of Avalon now rests with three young people: one of whom is the true heir of Merlin, the only person who can save Avalon, and one of whom is the dreaded child of the Dark Prophecy, the person fated to destroy it.

You have a magical world, interesting characters, and a plot that keeps the reader guessing every bit as much as the characters. All in all, it's a very entertaining read.

Exciting Fantasy

This is truely an exciting new fantasy series. You will find yourself looking forward to the next installment. The characters are interesting and work well together in this thoroughly entertaining book.

The Child of the Dark Prophecy is a shoot off series from T. A. Barron's Lost Years of Merlin. The Child of the Dark Prophecy is a great story and explains the existence of the worlds very well. I personally think anyone interested in reading this series should first begin with the Lost Years of Merlin. There are so many plot point in the series that connected to the Lost Years of Merlin. But if you don't want to get caught up in a long series (though I can't imagine why you wouldn't) this series is great on its own. There isn't a dull moment through the hole series; the story is original and all the characters are interesting and very relatable. Barron is a master of dynamic plots and descriptive settings. As you read you can clearly imagine everything being described.

Georgia is my hero! I orginally purchased this series for my neice, now I listen to them as well. We both love her story!

Ridiculous!

I don't know one person that actually speaks like this authors character. There is so much nonsense slang in the descriptions of the characters observations and thoughts and speech, that what she has the characters saying is way overdone to say the least. I couldn't get past the first 25 minutes of this book, and still don't understand what is happening in the story. Feeble attempts to make this book sound like our rendition of valley girl lingo but in a British format. Sorry to say that I had wasted a perfectly good credit on this book.

Amazingly Educational

This book, from start to finish, was absolutely what I wanted it to be. I've been wanting to read a book about this subject for a long time, because I wanted to educate myself about it to better understand the people who deal with it. It's done so beautifully, elegantly and respectfully too!

A fun book for children and adults

What made the experience of listening to Lily and Dunkin the most enjoyable?

I decided to read the book because I saw that one of the characters had Bipolar. Since I have an interest in mental health issues, I gave the book a go. I was pleasantly surprised. Lily and Duncan are both is middle school, and each has a serious problem with to contend with. Lily is a transgender girl who wants to come out. Duncan has Bipolar and wants/needs friends. The book switches between each character as they try to face the difficultly of middle school. Lily is bullied, both verbally and physically. And it is Duncan's new friends that are doing the bullying. Lily has to decide is come out is worth the risk of bodily harm, and Duncan has to decided who his friends are. From that alone, this book was good. But in addition, the author had adults in the book who were important to plot and fleshed out well.

The narrators did a good job on the book as well. I never fell out of the book because one of the narrators lost the flow of the plot. When listening to the book, often narrators make a difference. These two did a good job.

In the end, I would recommend this book. Although it is meant for younger readers, it is not dumbed down. Adults will find the story fulfilling and complex.

Good story, narrating was too monotonous

It was hard to stick to end. Even if the narrator did convey the characters, I miss Jessie Berenstein's narration of the series.

Great book

As always, i love Ricks books, but i feel the narrator could have done a better job. The book itself is really good, it holds your attention the whole time. I still think they should get a bunch of people and have them all read for one character (percy, annabeth, piper.....)

A gentle tale that unfolds like one of Beatrice Potter's children's tales and, without too much suspension of disbelief, as believable.

Great Outcomes for Foster Children

What did you love best about Tale of Hawthorn House?

Although my age indicates that I'm undeniably an adult, I have never given up my belief in fairies. I believe Fairies exist because I still need them. Ms Albert provides believable eveidence of their existence and how they might interact with the human world. Ms Albert also gives poignent portryal of the role of children and how the adults who should care for and about them often fail to look out for their best insterests. Compare the treatment of Miss Potter by her own self-absorbed parents, the red-haired Irish orphan taken in by the vereinarian and his family (a British Anne of Green Gables?), and baby Flora. In this writer's mind these three individuals are unvalued children who comprise a major theme in the book. Ms. Albert skillfully resolves each character's plight at a different pace; Flora's by the end of the book, Miss Potter's and the orphan's by stages by the end of the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

What truly delights me about this series is how Ms Albert succeeds in including Miss Potters characters and making them as substantive as the human characters. Ms. Leischman's superb narration is crucial to this success.

Which scene was your favorite?

I have two favorite scenes. The human scene is when a squirrel (or was it a dwelf?) wakes up Miss Potter from her nap in time to learn some crucial evidence. The animal scene is when Jemima Puddleduck's eggs hatch.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I like to listen to Audible as I'm working around the house. I love it when a book lasts from laundry time to dinner.

Taken by surprise...in a good way.

This is what I have to label as one of the sweetest young adult paranormal romance novels that Ive ever read. (Well listened to). I wouldnt say that it was the greatest PNR to ever be written, or even one of the best, but...Im completely smitten with Zara and Nick and am dying for more. Through the whole novel I just wanted to sigh in contentment as Carrie Jones described normal feelings and events so well that I could almost taste them on my tongue. Between Carrie Jones words and the perfect narration by Julia Whelan I was in Young Adult bliss. The sweetness that was the blooming relationship between Zara and Nick and the intensity that was Zaras passions for her beliefs and hurt over losing her father made the novel brilliant. I had certain expectations going into NEED and I can admit I was taken completely by surprise.

The book was narrated by Julia Whelan, who is absolutely amazing. I love narration that just breaths the main character and Whelan conveyed Zara perfectly and then switched into the other characters with ease. Her pronunciation was also seamless. She has narrated a lot of books, including ELIXIR which I also reviewed. (Didn't like that book though - but the writing not the narration). I'm almost templted to download The Magnolia League just so I can hear her again.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This was not my demographic. It was hard to empathise with a self-absorbed junior in highschool who seems to know what is going on, but seeks destruction at every turn.

Hell no. This is crap.

The Wig in the Window

This is one of my favorite books it really brought me to not stop listining. It was full of the mystery and excitement i love in a book. I'm so glad I listened to this book. I gave it five stars for those four reasons.

Cute but not great

If a light and cute kids mystery is what you're looking for, then this is perfect. My 12 year old and I read it together, she disliked the book entirely. I appreciated what it was, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone that enjoys good literature. The performance was good, but the voices for some characters were annoyingly contrived.

Ineffective Characters

The narrator for this book isn't very good. She does do one voice extremely well, that of Agford. But the two main characters, Grace and Sophie, are indistinguishable. Also, the character of Trista and every male in the book sound the same.

Overall, I found the main characters tedious due to all of their jumps to conclusions, which happened constantly. Besides being rather dull, the two main characters really only affect the main plot and the unraveling of the mystery accidentally. They snoop around, they find some stuff, and despite spending hours googling, they don't research very thoroughly and miss key details.

The worst is that the main character, Sophie, the daughter of two rocket scientists, believes in feng shui and keeps quoting Sun Tzu. The Sun Tzu quotes would have been great if they weren't so overly abundant, but all the feng shui nonsense was just stupid.
