Non Fiction Book of the Month

Fascinating history of money from the ancient Greeks to today. I give this my non fiction book of the month club award..of course subjective since I'm the only one with a vote. I became interested in economics after the crash of '08 and read what was available on Kindle. I should have started here. It's written almost like a text book with a chapter review after every chapter. Easy to read and not complicated; creates a time-line of how money becomes debased, particulary paper money. Good read for everyone whether interested in economics or not. Certainly should give you something to think about. How debased can currency get? I just bought 5 6 trillion dollar Zimbabwe notes for 5 bucks, make great birthday gifts.

INTERESTING INFO ON THE FED

Brilliant Book on the History of Money

Given the title you'd think this is just another book complaining about the Federal Reserve. In reality this book is much more than that. It goes into the History of Money and how it was used in the ancient Mediterranean. There is also a lot of history of the American Revolution including why our currency has the same name as Spanish Currency as opposed to British. Not to mention the dollar was first defined in silver instead of gold.

When it comes to the History of the Depression this book really pulls ahead. You may be surprised at some of the campaign statements made by Roosevelt and the actions of Herbert Hoover.

Explore Beyond the Usual Gives this Book 5 Stars!

This book excites me! I've read it three times and I still love it! Nick William's book The Business You Were Born to Create wakes up the entrepreneurial senses and gets your creative juices flowing. I find this book so timely, when everyone in the world is in survival mode and most people are feeling like they can't rely on the old crutch of corporate America to provide for them anymore.

It seems like everyone I talk to today is rethinking how they work and how they offer their talents to the world. Most people I know are consultants in various fields or have entrepreneurial businesses as a result of being laid off, divorced, or having doors slammed in their faces because they're over the age of 40. People are at their breaking point. They can't find the energy to deal with the online job boards anymore and apply for job after job and have their resume go down a black hole yet again. The thought of going on another interview where the company doesn't even have the courtesy afterwards to send you a `No Thank You' letter or email is enough to drive them to...no, not drink--start their own business!

If you are new to the subject then there is probably a lot of good information in here for you. If not, find a newer book. Electric car market is changing rapidly and much of this book is old news now.

Firstly, I must commend the effort of the writer of this book. He has done some good job at creating good impression about Nigeria business landscape and what it takes to do business in Nigeria. Particularly, he did some good job on the security aspect in Nigeria business environment. However, I believe the book is too shallow when considering the book from standpoint of its title. The author has unwittingly raised expectation about the book when consider the book from its title. There was a wide gap between the tittle of the book and its content. I strongly believe that more than 80% of would-be investor in Nigeria will have done their home-work thorough without reading this book. The impression created by the title of this book was that, it will provide technical and accurate information sources about business in Nigeria. For instance, when I bought the book, I was looking for a book that describe business enterprise in Nigeria e.g telecoms, agriculture just to mention a few. If the preview of this book had been available online, there were high chances that I will not buy the book.

This book is an advertisement for a lead-gen business; total waste of time. I'm surprised Amazon stocks it.

Sense and Insanity

I first discovered Richard Daughty, writing as "The Mogambo Guru," in 2006. Mr. Daughty is a reasonable, personable man, a successful businessman, and a very bright economist.

His alter-ego, the Mogambo, is a paranoid nut-case who manages to do everything wrong: at home, at work, and (when not in police custody) in public. He manages to offend and infuriate all those around him with his spot-on analysis of economic and fiscal events delivered as obnoxiously as possible.

Buy the Economica Mogambo for the superb run-on sentences and the head-snapping non sequiturs. Stick around for the brilliant analysis.

Never has "The Dismal Science" been presented in such a humorous fashion.

Disclaimer: While I've never met or communicated in any way with the Mogambo, I live within howitzer range of his Bunker of Doom. Just saying...

The Funniest Economist

I really liked this book. I have tried to collect every article by the Mogambo that I could find on line and here were many of them all collected in one volume. The only way that the book couuld have been better would have been if it had been "Economica Mogambo: The Complete Works" (or perhaps "The Complete Mogambo").

A fine introduction/summary

I like this series. This one does not disappoint. I teach business law, and wanted a nice walk-through just as a refresher and to catch some details I might have left out of my lectures. This author seems well-informed and bright, and has put together a good succinct presentation. The perspective seems to be primarily from Britain, but many can benefit, even US locals. I am also raising the quality of the international aspects of my course by listening to various of the international versions of this series.
