    Title: 21 Dog Years
    Subtitle: Doing Time @ Amazon.com
    Author: Mike Daisey
    Narrator: Mike Daisey
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 40 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-07-02
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 347 votes
    Genres: Business, Commerce & Economy
    Publisher's Summary:
In 1998, when Amazon.com went to temp agencies to recruit people, they gave them a simple directive: send us your freaks. Thus began Mike Daisey's love affair with this quintessential dot-com. His ascent from lowly temp to customer service representative to business development hustler is the stuff of dreams - and nightmares. Daisey takes us from Amazon's high point, when the stock traded at $361, to well into its rollercoaster plunge to today's humble two-digit price, all the while reflecting on the very nature of the new economy and the darkly humorous compromises made every day to survive in corporate America. At strategic intervals, the narrative is punctuated by hysterical (in every sense of the word) letters to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos - missives that seem ripped from the collective unconscious of dot-com disciples the world over. No wonder Newsweek has dubbed Daisey the "oracle of the bust."
With a hugely popular Web site and a hit one-man show that has received phenomenal coverage (with stories in Wired, Newsweek, Salon, and elsewhere), Daisey has become the bard of the dot-com boom-and-bust - a smart, imaginative, and acutely perceptive chronicler of our times.
The Free Press, a division of Simon & Schuster, is the original publisher of 21 Dog Years in hardcover.
    Critic Reviews:
"A modern Dickensian fable of pointless toil inside an industrial madhouse. Too funny not to be accurate, too heartbreaking not to be true. If you are wondering where all the time and money went, this book has the answers." (Walter Kirn, author of Up in the Air)

    21 Dogs Years
What an amazing listen! It is hard to believe this author is not a professional reader. You actually feel as if you are living through his experience. I recommend for anyone who can relate to the movie ?Office Space? or to anyone who goes to work everyday wondering why they do. ENJOY!
Worst Employee Ever??? That's the Point!
I tried to read the previous review as if the reviewer was employing a little irony, but somehow I think s/he didn't get the joke. Of course Mike Daisey would be an employer's worst nightmare -- but even bad employees should be allowed to tell their stories, especially when they are so hilarious. I thought this book was wonderful on two fronts: a) it's a cautionary tale for today's corporate employers who create soul-less, morale-defeating, cubicle-ridden workplaces (and I was one so I know from whence I speak); b) it's an insightful, way funny story.
    Very Funny
If you had anything to do with the .NET boom (and bust) then this book is a must read. Daisey is a very good story teller and reads his work like no one else could. His experiences at Amazon.com make for a very entertaining story, that really draws the listner into his wierd world.
If you have ever bought anything from Amazon then I am sure you will find this book funny and well worth the time it takes to hear.
A Hilarious Look at the Early Days of Amazon.com
Mike offers an excellent look at the inside of America's sweetheart Internet company. His narrative is delivered with excellence and his material is completely hilarious.
This book was a very easy read and I found it hard to stop listening.
    Incredibly Funny!
This audio book was not only one of the most funny things I have ever listed to but it was also one of the most interesting.

If written today, this would be a hit!
Here's the amazing thing about Digital Aboriginal... it was written in 2002! Based on the information gathered through their research, Mikela and Philip actually touched on technology advancements and new businesses that had not even existed yet.
This book is a must read for those of you that would like to understand human behavior and it's impact on how the Internet is changing the world we live in and how we are living in the world. This is a fantastic book.
    An incredible journey!
I love this book! Few business books have ever inspired me to buy multiple copies for friends and colleagues but none has ever kept me up at night like this amazing work.
Drawing on the metaphor of Australian nomad culture, the Tarlows weave a web ranging from the implications of intellectual property practices on ALL businesses to the value of co-designing experience and storytelling over passive media. The final chapters on idea communities, social genius, trust and tribalmind are both mind-blowing and hopeful.
Perhaps what I enjoy the most about this book is the tension between future vision and present practicality. In many ways, Digital Aboriginal suggests a way to navigate the future using imagination, ethics and a heightened sense of participation in the world.
I cannot recommend this work highly enough!
    Who Owns the Wind?
Mikela and Philip Tarlow invite the reader to deliberate this question by sharing their wisdom and knowledge about the Aboriginal belief in the connectivity of relationships. As a reader, an observer of the story, you will travel through time both past and future, chapter by chapter, experiencing the opportunity to dream about the possibilities of a new business design where ownership ideas are replaced with a regard for creativity and innovation. You are brought to an intersection in time where ideas create a place of order and rules are forever rewritten. You will not be able to resist being part of an evolution of both spirit and thought.
A must read for any serious business person.
This book is about business and how it is evolving faster than the speed of light. This book will help enlighten you on how and why you must consider technology as the way to enhance and grow your business from the inside out. Your customers expect it, your prospects expect it and your employees will too.
Technology can pave the way to a future you may not have envisioned yet. Hold on to your hats - it's going to be an exciting ride! This book will help you be a part of the POSITIVE side of the inevitable.
    Different and interesting
Digital aboriginal is a quite different way to see the current business environment. And provides to the readers an innovative vision of the business and economics. It goes more beyond the metaphoras and you feel really as if the companies were as the ancient tribes.

    Good Stuff
This book covered a lot of different topics, all of which were very interesting to me. As complex as some of the articles were, I never felt lost. Great inside look at the lives and personality profiles of Michael Miliken and Mary Meaker and a great analysis of Japanese economy. While it is reporting last years best stories, they are still relevant. Plus with 16 hours of content it will take you longer than a 2 days to finish it.
    Who Picked These Stories?
This was like being read beadtime stories from a Newsweek magazine. In my opinion these are hardly the best business stories of the year and of little value as an audible option.

    Title: Gonzo Marketing
    Subtitle: Winning Through Worst Practices
    Author: Christopher Locke
    Narrator: Christopher Locke
    Format: Abridged
Length: 2 hrs and 30 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-14-01
    Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 36 votes
    Genres: Business, Commerce & Economy
    Publisher's Summary:
As master of ceremonies at the wake for traditional one-size-fits-all marketing, Locke has assembled a unique guest list, from Geoffrey Chaucer to Hunter S. Thompson, to guide us through the revolution that is rocking business today, as people connect on the Web to form powerful micromarkets. These networked communities, based on candor, trust, passion, and a general disdain for anything that smacks of corporate smugness, reflect much deeper trends in our culture, which Locke illuminates with his characteristic wit.
Gonzo Marketing is not yet another nostrum for hoodwinking the unwary. It's about market advocacy. It describes how "the artist formerly known as advertising" must do a 180. It's about transforming the marketing message from "we want your money" to "we share your interests." It's about tapping into, listening to, and even forming alliances with emerging online markets, who probably know more about your company than you do. It's a hip-hop cover of boring old best practices played backwards. The paradox is that companies that support and promote these communities can have everything they've always wanted: greater market share, customer loyalty, brand equity.

    The New Marketing
Christopher Locke (a.k.a. "Rageboy") is an interesting, outspoken fellow and one of the creators of the "Cluetrain Manifesto" which caused quite a stir upon its birth.
Stemming from the manifesto came a book of the same name (which I'm listening to now) and from that comes Locke's book, "Gonzo Marketing". Gonzo Marketing delves more deeply into the concept of helping corporations acquire what he and his manifesto-writing brethren refer to as "Voice".
Voice is about the unfiltered tone, manner and humanity of individual conversations happening on the Internet and the participants within them. He insists that corporations don"t have "Voice" as they are faceless, soulless, non-human entities. For the most part, he"s right.
He postulates on ways for corporations to acquire Voice, but also ways for them to exercise their Voice in relevant communities of interest on the Internet, and how this participation contributes to their bottom line. He also delves into the financial aspects of this community participation through a not-so-traditional model of "underwriting."
It's a relatively short audiobook and well-worth the mind expansion.
    Great book
Captures the ideas of the Cluetrain Manifesto in a brief listen.
Waste of time, money and brain space
The first hour of this book has nothing to do with marketing, gonzo marketing or anything. It's just some blowhard trying to use big words and failing miserably and misquoting cliches.
The second hour of this book isn't much better. There's no research, no earl theories or actionable info.

Master addresses key current topics in naming including naming vs. branding, determining the optimal number of names, domain name issues, linguistic missteps, and getting the most out of your trademark attorney. Release date: 05-10-13
    Publisher: Eric Robert Morse
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Business, Commerce & Economy
    Publisher's Summary:
By now, everyone recognizes the severity of the 2007-08 financial crisis. But, to many Americans, the bailouts, stimulus packages, and regulatory schemes aimed at solving the problem seemed to merely pull the economy further into the mire of bureaucracy, party politics, and unsustainable debt that led to the crisis in the first place. Only the bankers and officials who caused the problem were in a position to solve it, and so fixing the system necessarily meant becoming part of it - and thus making it even harder to fix. This is the crux of the Juggernaut.
A sprawling, uncontrollable system that only grows larger and more berserk the more we try to quell it, the Juggernaut has become a way of life. It is not, as many would suggest, a product of the last 10 or even 30 years. Rather, it is inherent in the system itself, with roots that reach as far back as Columbus and the dawn of modern times.
In this stunning new story of political economy, author Eric Robert Morse examines why the modern system has become so unwieldy and explains what must be done to correct it. His astute analysis and fascinating storytelling take readers on an epic journey, from the dawn of free-market capitalism during the age of exploration, through the industrial revolution and Adam Smith, to the rise of Keynesianism and the dominance of the welfare state.
Drawing from all corners of political, social, and economic study, including specialism and the division of labor, competition and game theory, and statism and public choice theory, Morse weaves together a groundbreaking economic theory, which promises to shake up the current political discourse and usher in a new era of cooperation and prosperity.
    Members Reviews:
Extraordinary, Compelling Piece of Outside-the-box Thinking and Analysis
Mister Morse has done an exemplary job here.
First, Juggernaut is a well thought out, level-headed, and refreshingly non-partisan look at the evolution of western political-economic thought from the 1500s and the discovery of the New World to the present. The author discusses Marxian critiques of capitalism, the School of Salamanca, robber-barrons and laissez-faire capitalism, the effects of the division of labor championed by Adam Smith, the interventionism of Keynes, the ascent of money as a preferred medium of exchange, the perils of interdependency created by a closed economic environment, and many more emotionally charged subjects with an admirably dispassionate tone. In each case equal time is given to the benefits and inherent problems of each of the ideas presented. This serves well to define the problems we face in the modern political and economic environment and to illustrate how the US and other developed nations got into their current messes and why there is such great difficulty in untangling them effectively.
Second, in light of this historical and theoretical backdrop, the book puts forth the thesis that the first requirement for a free society to develop and thrive is individual self-sufficiency, the idea that people can't free themselves from a system if they depend on it for their basic survival needs.

Title: Free Market Economics: A Primer
    Author: Michael Dahlen

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 34 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-18-17
    Publisher: Michael Dahlen
    Genres: Business, Commerce & Economy
    Publisher's Summary:
A concise and crystal clear explanation of how a free market economy works.
Widespread ignorance regarding free markets permeates both the Left and the Right. Not only are most talking heads ignorant of how a free market works, they don't even know what a free market is.
Does a free market economy lead to depressions, monopolies, unemployment, and price gouging, as critics allege? Or is it the antidote to such problems?
Moreover, doesn't a free market foster inequality? Doesn't it allow businessmen to exploit workers and rip-off consumers? Doesn't it allow the rich to get richer at everyone else's expense? Or does a free market benefit everyone?
Free Market Economics: A Primer explains simply and clearly what a free market is, how it works, and why it's practical.
    Members Reviews:
How Capitalism Helps Protect Our Freedom and Liberty
In this primer you will learn how CAPITALISM is an uncompromising commitment to freedom, liberty, and individual rights, one entirely based on a free market economy that is self-correcting without any interference from Gov't intrusion. This clear and concise look at a free market economy contrasts starkly with today's MIXED ECONOMY that has been broken by Gov't intrusion and is failing as we speak. The author's bottom line is quite rightly that you can have (1) freedom and liberty or (2) government control -- but not both -- and you will learn precisely why this is so. In the end you will understand very clearly that the bigger our Federal gov't grows the less free we all are (including our economy.) Capitalism is a gift that our Founding Fathers gave us, no less so than the Constitution and the Bill of Rights that they gave us.
This is a primer for citizens who appreciate American exceptionalism and want to know how those things are related to Capitalism and why. An educated public is the only way we can truly preserve our liberty.
