Awesome collection!
Iâm a huge fan of reading poetry, so this is something right up my alley.
Personally, I love how this can be read in a single sitting while also drawing you into each poem. I read several multiple times, and I have to say my favorites involve nature and the simplicity of life portrayed early on in the book. They had a nostalgic feel I think helps to ground us with mutually pleasant memories.
About a third to halfway through, the tone slightly changes to more thought provocative prose, which, while it leaves the good feels behind, give us a reason to think while indulging. The best part for me was that they werenât heavy handed and didnât lack depth or power while still being smooth enough to read without hesitating.
The collection closes with some more nostalgic, feel good poems. While it didnât fully capture the feeling of the opening, mainly due to the though provoking material sandwiched between, I felt this was an excellent way to end the book. It helped to bring the collection together much like your typical novel.
Iâm looking forward to reading more of this authorâs poetry collections.
Sensitive, moving and powerful
This is a lyrical, thought-provoking collection of poetry reflecting on the sorrows, joys and beauty that can be discovered in everyday living.
âThe sand is soft beneath my feet and offers little resistance as I walk. The thrashing of waves, as they reach the shore, triggers serenity and stirs the depth of my soul.â
My favorite passages are those where the author shares his regard for the loveliness, strength and majesty of nature.
This collection is a quick read, but will keep you hooked until the very end. The authorâs words are sensitive, moving and powerful with extremely personal insights and observations about his perceptions of life. If you enjoy insightful reading, I would highly recommend this lovely collection of short poems.
Book of Reflection and Wisdom
An Odyssey of Love, Nature & Life: Poems by Vic Tomlinson is a book for all ages and time. These poems use creative imagery to evoke feelings we can all grasp and share.
He describes simple subjects in everyday life to confirm our journey through life. For example, he reflects on âThe Stream: It just keeps going and going before and after me.â He shares wisdom in âThanksgiving Day: That feeling of emptiness descends on me. Perhaps one should look outward to help others on this day, rather than just oneself.â
His beautiful poems refresh and relax my soul. I look forward to reading more of this authorâs poetry!
Highly recommend 5 stars!
I read this lovely collection of poems and observations in one sitting. The author writes with flowing prose. Amongst my favorites are Oneness, because reading it, I could almost smell the sea and feel the sand beneath my toes.
