A strong and courageous author in a summer of snow

Matt Snee is a strong and courageous author who plumbs the depths of his love and despair, and ultimate hope, in this collection of poems written, I think, from a psychiatric ward in a summer of snow. "Long ago I held her, under the green silk moon..." His poetry approaches a plethora of personal emotions and angst, even anger, and a Godless yet somehow heavenly vision of a woman gone on before him into death. Hints of nurses and medication, psychotic interludes with a devastating last memory of his lover, Snee recognizes the sublime in humanity and the healing that will not take place, not now, but some time in the future. The poetry is raw but objective enough to be recognizable as a feeling overarching humanity that speaks of lost opportunities and young lovers, forever etched in time and these timeless verses. Requires careful rereadings, but I am presently overcome by the images, which have stirred memories of my own. The verses may be too raw, too primal, for some readers, too despairing, but wait - they speak of hope and memories which make the despair worthwhile for those who've experienced and recognize..."I love you...Like some great wave, she had already drowned me/ I was hers; forever."
