The main characters are the ones featured prominent on the posters. They get the biggest floats in the parades, the big picture spots, all the glory BUT...what about the little guy and gal? In terms of Disney films, the sidekicks actually do get a fair amount of credit. Timon and Pumbaa are arguably near the top of the mountain as far as popularity of sidekicks go, eclipsing a strong number of Disney's main heroes as well. The Dwarfs recently had an entire attraction bearing their name in New Fantasyland. Olaf became popular in a way few could have predicted as well. So who are the best of the best? Pete found himself in San Francisco for two weeks recently and above all one thing was certain, that time would be made to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum. In the end, two visits were made on consecutive weekends. After spending nearly 10 hours in the museum the Walt inspired and his daughter Diane founded, there is much to discuss even knowing how much more one can discover. Over the past few weeks I had the opportunity to experience two of the tours offered at Magic Kingdom. The first was The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour where guests were given a closer look at the many trains of the Magic Kingdom. Starting at Town Square and traveling all the way to the roundhouse, where the trains are housed, you get a large history of the park's connection to steam trains and Walt Disney himself. The second tour was Disney's Keys to the Kingdom which is a 5 hour experience atop and below the Magic Kingdom. Once again starting in Town Square, guests will find themselves backstage at the most popular theme park on Earth while learning how the show is run. Even more, you get to visit the fabled utilidor system that runs underneath the Kingdom. That all sounds great but does the price tag and experience match the description? Pete is here to give his feedback on both! It's showtime!

The Disney Movie Hour segment returns this week as we look back at the 1960 action adventure film, Swiss Family Robinson. A huge success when it opened on December 21st, 1960, does this film hold up? Factoring the animal torture, child actor who almost made us destroy a TV, and a set that endured a flood, there is a lot to go over. After giving some background on the cast, crew, and production of the film we will go and discuss the film in whole. At the conclusion we will ask three questions that all entries of the Disney Movie hour face. First, is the film aimed at teaching a moral, or aimed more at getting an emotional response? Does it accomplish both? Neither? Second we discuss what the iconic shot of the film is and finally, does the film hold up? Lots to discuss and we, as always, have enlisted the help of Ryan P Wilson of the Main Street Gazette! We also discuss the new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction coming to Disneyland. It's showtime!

This week on Disney Magic Hour I found myself treated to meeting Disney Artist, Kevin-John Jobczynski. We met at the Carolwood Pacific Room located in the Villas at Wilderness Lodge in Walt Disney World. After admiring one of the original cars from the Carolwood Pacific Railroad that circled the backyard of Walt Disney's home in Los Angeles, we sat down and spoke at length on a number of different subjects from Disney, horror films, why Fall is the best season ever, and how being a dude who loves Disney has evolved from the stereotype it once was. On this week's installment of our Disney Movie Hour series we take a look at 1959's Sleeping Beauty. Upon first release the film did not find a huge audience but since has been regarded as one of the best visual achievements the Walt Disney Studio ever created. With it also came one of the best villains Disney put on screen in Maleficent. Does the film hold up though or is it all image and no story? As with every film in this series we will ask 3 questions. First, is the moral or is it aimed to generate an emotional response. Does it try for both? Does it succeed? Second, does the film still work? Finally, what is the iconic shot of the film? EPCOT may be my favorite park to visit on a daily basis given the space, the atmosphere and food that is offered in World's Showcase. Unfortunately, we find ourselves walking past much of Future World on our way to the Showcase. It seems to have lost its way but all is not beyond repair. The theme still lies in the architecture and so on this week's episode we will share our ideas of what changes we would like to see in EPCOT's Future World. New pavilions? Refurbishments of existing attractions? Utter destruction of a particular pavilion? Lots to discuss, off we go!
