Thirty-two thousand Americans are diagnosed with myeloma each year and 13,000 die of this disease. While the five-year survival has risen over the past 20 years, some groups of patients are being left behind. Today, African Americans are 2.6 times more likely to die of the disease compared to other racial groups.
