In the tenth episode of "Divine Guidance," Duane Sheriff teaches the importance of being led by the Holy Spirit and discerning God's voice. He shares his experiences of initially dismissing the Holy Spirit's leading but then learning to recognize and follow it.
God leads us through an "inner witness" in our spirit and provides several witnesses to confirm this inner leading. The first witness is the Word of God - the Holy Spirit will never contradict clear biblical principles. The second witness is the love of God, as 1 John 4:8 states that "God is love." Anything that violates God's nature of unconditional love is not from Him.
The kingdom protocol in Romans 14:17 states that the kingdom of God is characterized by "righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit." God's voice will always align with these spiritual realities, not just selfish desires or unrighteous actions. Isaiah 45:19, "I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right." When God speaks, it will align with what is morally upright and just. He cautions against following voices that contradict God's word or promote unrighteous behavior, even if they claim to be from God.
Develop an ear to hear God's voice, test it against Scripture, and respond in faith. By learning to discern and obey the Holy Spirit's leading, believers can experience God's power and see lives transformed.
