There are some other updates on the Halloween season at the resort. For 2025, Halloween Time will start on August 22nd and run through October 31st. Mickey and Minnie will get new outfits for the occasion, as usual. This time they will be a twist on the 70th costumes! Haunted Mansion Holiday is returning, along with Halloween Screams. This Saturday, a few authors of Disneyland books will be at Wonderground for a book release and signing. Don Hahn and Christopher Merrit will be on hand to sign The Happiest Place on Earth: The Incredible Story of Walt Disney’s Disneyland, Martha Blanding and Tim O’Day for Groundbreaking Magic: A Black Woman’s Journey Through the Happiest Place on Earth, Matthew Reinhart for Disneyland Park (a Pop-Up Park Tour), and finally Bob Weis with Dream Chasing: My Four Decades of Success and Failure with Walt Disney Imagineering. A couple of construction items that we have been following at the resort have some updates. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room has a reopening date of July 3rd! When we were in the parks a few weeks ago, we noticed new lamp posts in front of Main Street Station, by the Mickey floral. Walls are back up in this area to install more of these lamp posts. We talked about the neat Magic Band touch points around Disneyland in a previous episode, but there was still one location that had not come online yet. The last point in Tomorrowland, themed to Autopia is finally online. Last Thursday, Disneyland President Thomas Mazloum gave a State of the Resort presentation and unveiled some major upcoming changes. The first of these was concept art for a new entrance experience for guests on the Harbor side of the resort. This includes a new Transportation Hub, and major esplanade changes. A new guest bridge will take guests from a new parking structure behind the hotels on Harbor Boulevard to the entrance to the parks. There will still be a security checkpoint on Harbor for guests staying at those hotels. The transportation hub will move from between the parks to the new parking area, along with a security checkpoint. Two other projects at Disney California Adventure got some more firm details. The “Avatar Experience” will displace Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue!, which will close in early 2026. The attraction will be located near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, in a current backstage area. While we were in the parks, we were able to get a sneak peek over the scrim to see the update on the Tiki Room. It appears that Tangaroa has been installed and other Tiki Gods are also being refreshed. The Walt Disney Archives does some amazing work, which you can see in the parks for the 70th! Inside of Carthay Circle Restaurant, there is a new “Celebrating 70 Years of Disneyland Resort with the Walt Disney Archives” exhibit. It features a ticket book, a Sam the Eagle top hat from America Sings, a Disneyland survey marker, and more. We had talked previously of some of the missing decorations from the 70th concept art for Sleeping Beauty Castle. Well, they were just a little late for the start of the celebration! The toppers to the banners on the drawbridge have been installed. Disney giveth and Disney taketh away. The fountains in the moat in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle appear to have been removed. The “main” location of Earl of Sandwich has a closing date. July 25th marks the end of Earl in the former La Brea Bakery location, leaving the temporary “pop-up” location by the old ESPN Zone building. Stitch isn’t the only character at Disneyland that is new. Phineas and Pherb are meeting and greeting in the Hollywood Backlot. Agent P joins them on Saturdays only. Even with the Disneyland 70th in nearly full swing, there are still some construction projects happening around the resort. Matterhorn Mountain is getting some pretty extensive track and rock work completed, the Enchanted Tiki Room, along with the Tiki Juice Bar are both behind walls for refurbishment. The Little Man of Disneyland, Patrick Begorra, is setting off to another land in the park. Patrick is being celebrated at Club 33 with his own menu. He is going on a “Royal Adventure” to New Orleans Square where the menu features cocktails representing the five original lands. The Watchlight, and the Strawberry Streetcar for Main Street, Flights of Enchantment for Fantasyland, Amber Waves of Tea for Frontierland, Neverending Tomorrow for Tomorrowland, and Uncharted Nature for Adventureland. For Memorial Day in the United States, Disneyland had a few ways to honor the people who gave their lives in service to the country. Tables have been setup around the resort for fallen soldiers, with an empty place setting, reminding guests of the soldiers who did not make it home. The Flag Retreat ceremony in Town Square was larger then usual to honor the day. The 70th castle sculpture in the esplanade revealed an interesting twist this week – it is a music box! At least that is what is sounds like. The new Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live show has debuted in the Disney Theatre in Disney California Adventure. The new show is a big upgrade from the last show in the theatre, and is still geared towards younger kids, with seating on the floor only. After over two years, a part of Adventureland has returned in a different form. The Adventureland restrooms across from the entrance to the land have finally lost the not very temporary wall. The wall was put up over two years ago to cover the damage from a burst water pipe. The new live action Lilo & Stitch movie is coming to theaters on May 23rd, and Stitch has stopped by Disneyland to celebrate. We have some new details about the Walt Disney animatronic experience coming to the Opera House in July. Various media outlets were invited to the Imagineering campus to see the life-sized concept sculpt, and to learn more about the show. Walt’s voice in the show will be his own, with clips of his actual voice were painstakingly assembled from interviews. The animatronic itself is very lifelike. A rather abrupt change has come to New Orleans Square. The Port Royal Curios and Curiosities shop, right next to the Royal Street Veranda, has been changed into a seating area for diners. Since the shop duplicated the merchandise which can be found at Madame Leota’s “Somewhere Beyond” shop, the old location was not needed. The decor was not updated much, except to turn it into a jazzy looking speakeasy. At the Emporium on Main Street, there are a set of windows that are decorated with animated scenes from Disney classics. April is Earth Month, and this year Disneyland is doing something unique. Guests are being encouraged to participate in the Food Scraps program. The program takes uneaten food and turns it into nutrient-rich feed for farm animals. Galactic Grill, Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, Cafe Daisy, Pym Test Kitchen, Flo’s V8 Cafe, and Cozy Cone Motel are participating. With the recent uncertainty from international travelers from outside the United States, Disney has created some hotel and theme park ticket deals. The fires at the beginning of the year in the Southern California area were tragic, and impacted so many. Disney committed $15 million to the effort back in January. Disney has added “Disney Field Days” where they go and bring carnivals with characters, games, activities, and more to locations impacted. Recently, two schools in Brentwood, Disney cast members and VoluntEARS put on these events – to over 900 students. Two people who lost special items in the fires got a version of them back. One eight-year-old lost her giant stuffed Tigger in the fire, Disney replaced it with one that had traveled around Disney’s Animal Kingdom. One of our favorite Imagineers will be featured in an upcoming documentary about their life and legacy. “Bob Gurr: Living by Design” will premiere at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on April 26th to a red carpet arrival with celebrity guests, and a Q&A after with Bob himself! A small thing at Disneyland that we have been following is the sign at the Jolly Holiday on Main Street. When the location reopened recently from its refurbishment, there was a temporary sign covering the popcorn lights underneath. For the past 66 years, the Ernest S Marsh locomotive has taken guests around Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom. What you may not know is that it is much older than that! There are some small things happening around the resort that we wanted to mention. “it’s a small world’s” return has been delayed until May 9th. A new permit for Porto’s includes the removal of two of the ticket booths in the esplanade to make room for the expanded location. Also, there was some testing on Lightning Lane removal from Pirates this week.
