  • Dr. Shyam Ranganathan: Yoga Philosophy & The Practice Of Purpose
Welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast.
Now today’s episode is one that I hold close to the heart for several reasons, and that is because this subject, this practice, this process and philosophy is one that has literally kept me sane throughout the craziness that has been 2020. In Fact it kept me sane through various chapters of my life. What I am talking about is none other than the art and practice of yoga.
So what does yoga have to do with our life purpose? In my opinion everything. See just like yoga, I am a firm believer that purpose is a practice, and that a huge part of living with a purpose is all about showing up on the mat. Leaning into the postures, just as we lean into our lives.
Just like yoga, there will be days where the postures flow, and other days where we feel challenged, but as we move through the process, and as we keep showing up for the sovereignty that is our life purpose we continue to move towards an integrated state of being. A state of wholeness and a place of union. A coming together of the possibilities for our life, channeled through us, and through our bodies. Though our purpose.
Personally practicing yoga has been so much more than a form of exercise in my world. I have found my dharma on the mat. As we discuss in today's episode in exploring the nature of yoga - It has enabled me to stop viewing my life as an autobiography, in order to play an active role in creating my own script with the golden ink of purpose.
For all of these reasons, in today's podcast I wanted to talk to someone who is way more qualified than I to decode yoga philosophy. Coming all the way from Toronto, Dr. Shyam Ranganathan is the founder of Yoga Philosophy - a scholar-practitioner initiative - and a virtual school of yoga. He is a field-changing researcher, scholar, author and teacher of philosophy, and an expert in the neglected traditions of Indian moral philosophy, which covers practical questions of how to live, what to aim for, and what we should value—including Yoga.
So without further delay let's get on the mat, and get ready to decode our dharma, through the lens of our limbs, our breath and all the beautiful states of being the practice of yoga provides.Welcome to the podcast.

  • Role Models Management: Ann Therese & Val Emanual Walking Down The Ethical Catwalk
Welcome To Another Episode Of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.
When we hear the word ethical used in a sentence it has a certain level of gravity. It is one that conjures up feelings of righteousness, morality, integrity and of purpose driven action and or responsibility. Simple to understand, and even easier to throw in a sentence, but what does it really mean? Is it a word, an image, or is it something that can only ever be applied in action?
I think over the coming years as purpose and the purpose economy continues to grow in momentum we will see a lot more people using the word ethical - talk about ethical sales, ethical marketing, ethical talent attraction or the creation of ethical products, but I also think for the consumers we will all have to really do our homework in every decision we make….because as the saying goes action is always louder than words.
However in a digital world it is often words or images that act as the click bait, making our job as purveyors of the internet even more important for the conscious evolution of our planet. The small choices we make matter more than ever and it's on us to decide how ethical a brand really is. Luckily for you...today I am honoured to not only showcase a truly ethical brand, but one that is breaking the status quo in an industry that in the past would never have been considered to be necessarily ethical.
Those guests are the co founders of Role Models Management - Ann Therese and Val Emanual all the way from New York City and Los Angeles respectively. Ann Therese and Val came together with a shared dream – starting a modeling agency that would disrupt the way we think about and see the industry.
Role Models are the agency that puts ethics, sustainability, environmental, and social justice at the core of the business. Founded in 2017, the agency came to life from the desire to build a platform where models are given a voice to speak about things they believe in. Ann Therese and Val wanted to show the world that models can be incredible agents of change and help shift pop culture in the direction needed for a better future.
Role Models™ aim to work with brands and clients that are making an effort to drive positive change within the industry. Role Models™ loves brands that are socially & environmentally responsible, innovative and cruelty free.
As models themselves Ann Therese and Val have lived through all of the ups and downs of an industry trading in on beauty, and through their belief in using the profile and influence that models have they have taken an outdated system into a new purpose driven paradigm….that absolutely has the power to use beauty (both the inside and outside) to change the world.
So without delay get ready to strut your stuff down the most conscious catwalk in town. Welcome to the podcast.

  • Josh Stinton: When Purpose Becomes An Extreme Adventure
Welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast.
We often hear people say that they have put themselves on the line for a project, for a passion or even for a purpose. We talk about the courage, the commitment and the certainty it takes to show up, speak up or stand out. Yet only a rare few understand what it takes to put your body on the line, or to take yourself outside of your comfort zone, and not many have road tested the manner in which having a sense purpose can inspire you to do things that others would say was simply not possible - or even crazy.
Today's guest is one of those people. His name is Josh Stinton and he is otherwise known as the Charity Adventurer. So what does a charity adventurer do? Josh takes on epic challenges all over the world to help small charities help children in need.
These challenges include doing a 90 kilometre cross country race in Sweden despite having never skied once before the start line. With only 4 months to learn to unicycle, representing Australia in the worlds largest down-mountain unicycle race (MUNI) in Spain.
Taking on the "the hardest mountain bike race in the world" held in the Arctic in far northern Norway. This race, 700 kilometres long, only had 2 designated 4 hour resting areas. In the podcast Josh even talks about experiencing hallucinations.
As if that's not enough he has hand-cycled the length of Japan, and executed a crazy vision to cycle across the Atlantic Ocean! Unbelievably I'm pretty sure I have left some challenges on this list, and you will have to tune into the episode to find out what's next for this crazy adventurer.
As you can imagine, this podcast is riveting in simply listening to Josh's tales from the frontiers of the world's most extreme places, but more than that as a speaker and an educator himself, Josh has been able to distill the lessons from his adventures in a way that will enable you to integrate his insights and wisdom about the extreme adventures of purpose into your everyday life.
So without further delay, strap yourself in. We are going for a wild ride. Welcome to the Decoding Purpose Podcast.

  • Lillian Kikuvi: The Diversity Economies - Inclusion and The Future
Welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast. For those of us here in Australia the Jacaranda flowers are in bloom, the sun is shining and with talks of possible vaccinations and borders opening here in Australia there is a sense that maybe this new normal is starting to feel...well a little more normal. That said, the new part is undeniably a wave whose wake is yet to crash. This has been a year of change like no other, and the ripple from that change will be felt for many years to come.
One thing that has been established in 2020 is the fact that this virus has levelled all of humankind. A virus that did not distinguish between rich or poor, black or white, male or female. In addition to that, in our pursuit to find a vaccine the world has collaborated more so than ever before. After all, when it comes to solving problems, collaboration trumps genius, and diversity by design is a new world superpower. Diversity in people, but also the diversity of humankind and technology.
For all of these reasons and more, today I wanted to talk to a woman who is an influential advocate for diversity, inclusion, and the future. Her name is Lillian Kikuvi whose core focus is on decoding the intersection between diversity and the role it plays in propelling individuals and organisations into a future that supercharges the power of inclusivity.
To give you some background information, Lilian is a Kenyan born Australian with a rich cross-cultural experience in Australia spanning over two decades. She has discovered significant barriers and opportunities in Australia in the areas of diversity, equality, equity, and inclusion. As a result, she is passionate about flipping the narrative that diversity is not only an ethical or social decision but an economic one.
As a member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Network Lilian believes that systematic and sustainable change can only happen when people collaborate. She is also a member of my tribe at Future Crunch who are a think tank made of unlike minds on a mission to foster intelligent and optimistic thinking.
As a speaker and an independent corporate consultant on diversity in the workplace, Lilian has a focus on bridging the gap between the role of organisational diversity today and the possibilities for what it could look like tomorrow. She has an intersectional approach to diversity which we will talk more about in the podcast & she challenges that what is considered diverse is not always obvious, and more often than not, it is hidden or yet to emerge.
So without further delay get ready to dive into a conversation built upon a foundation of research, yet translate in a way that questions the status quo and asks us to get comfortable with the uncomfortable is creating a new space for richer conversations about diversity and inclusion both in Australia and around the world. • Park Howell: Brand Bewitchery & The Purpose Of Storytelling
Hello and welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast.
Now, for those of you who are regular listeners of this show, you may have heard me reference what I call the DNA of purpose as a framework to understand purpose decoded. Top-level, this is a concept that explores DNA (the genetic kind that is) as a metaphor for how we can connect with our individual sense of purpose and also as an acronym. Purpose is D; a Decision. N; a Narrative. And A; an Alignment to self. That self may be the individual self or in the case of today's podcast a collective self such as a business or a community.
Once the decision to have a purpose is made, then the next part of the process is to find the narrative and to unpack the story, and that is exactly what we will be unpacking in detail in today's episode. So why is narrative so important in a conversation about purpose? Because purpose is the story we tell ourselves about who we are, purpose is the story we share with our team or clients about why our organization exists, and purpose is the story that we share with the world. Without the story, our purpose is like a sailing boat without sails.
Luckily today's guest has both the boat and the sails. Sails that have brought his story all the way from Arizona into the studios of the Decoding Purpose Podcast. His name is Park Howell and he is a 30+ year veteran of the advertising industry who has guided hundreds of purpose-driven brands to substantial business growth. Today he chooses to focus on the one area of advertising that he loved the most, and the one area he felt was most relevant to today's digital landscape. The art and evolution of storytelling.
As the founder of The Business Of Story and the author of Brand Bewitchery, Park now consults, teaches, coaches, and speaks internationally helping leaders and communicators rise above the noise of the Attention Economy in order to be heard using the power of brand and business storytelling.
So without further delay, kick back and get ready to unpack the structure behind how we can ignite a message into a movement, turn words into wonder, or take a brand and make it truly bewitching. Welcome to the podcast.

Welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast.
Today we have prepared a one-off mash up episode as a part of the recent nominations for The Australian Podcast Awards. I guess you could call this episode PURPOSE DECODED.
Firstly, a BIG congratulations goes out to all of the nominees. This is such an exciting time for the podcasting industry, especially in 2020. Despite the chaos, I think we can celebrate podcasts as being such a great way, and an easy way to inspire, educate and to engage humanity in conversations of all types that change the world.
As we say at Future Crunch If we want to change the story of the human race in the 21st century, we have to change the stories we tell ourselves - and it is through meaningful conversations that we can create cognitive dissonance and flip the narratives that need to change in order to create a more purpose-driven world.
Now, On this occasion Decoding Purpose did not make it through to the nomination stage, but we still won because we created some great content focussing on three key areas which I am excited to share with you today. Those categories include purpose as a way to enhance well being and mental health, purpose in business and then a feature on Decoding Purpose as an exciting thought leadership podcast. This last one featured grabs from some of my favourite memorable moments where we gained clarity on what this thing called purpose is all about.
Some of the incredible guests in the well-being category include.
Sarah Rowan: Australia’s leading performance and speed painter.Kaila Colbin: The Founder of Boma Global and CEO Boma New ZealandRichie Harkham: A Return On ResilienceSarah Nally: The co-founder of Wonder and Wander
    Our business thought leaders included:
Amanda Daff: Employment InnovationsDavid Burkus: Global Thought leader and Author on PurposeChristos Tsolkas: The Author of The Gift Of Crises.Jason Harris: Founder of Mekanism and author of The Soulful Art of PersuasionLisa Messenger - Founder of Collective Hub, Serial Author and all-round Game Changer.

  • Liz Volpe: A World That Inspires Extraordinary Dreams
In 2020, the world has stopped and with that experienced a collective pattern interrupt (no surprises there). In many ways, this has acted as a catalyst for a one way trip into the tunnels of introspection. We ask ourselves: Is my world on track for what I want it to look like tomorrow? Is the world at large on track for how we, as a collective, want it tomorrow? These are big questions to ask ourselves as adults let alone as kids and teenagers, and that is why it is so vital that we empower these young people with the inspiration to DREAM BIG and give them the tools to make those dreams happen. Our future depends on it.
So today, I am excited, because whilst I pride myself on finding all sorts of inspiring people to interview for this podcast, it's nice to be able to bring you a special guest from my inner circle. Someone who happens to also be one of Australia's most respected entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs. • Firdaus Kharas: Creativity & Cartoons As Catalysts For Epic Social Change
Welcome To Another Episode of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.
We are living in a world where the social problems we face are impossible to ignore. After all, we are navigating a collective ‘dark night of the soul’. A night being defined by a global pandemic, the implications of climate change, the impact of digitisation on our well being and many other issues relating to social justice and equality all over the world.
In 2020 it is crystal clear that there is no shortage of problems to solve, but what we also know is fear-mongering or focussing only on the issues rarely ever provides the solutions that we need. On the flip side, optimism, hopeful thinking and creativity is where we find the power to pioneer a new future. And sometimes it takes darkness for us to look within and more clearly see the potential of our light.
The big question I hope to answer in today's interview is this: How can we harness the infinite power of creative thinking to inspire and influence behaviour change? How can we use our purpose as pioneers of a new future, to tell stories that inspire a shift in thinking about the future in which we are co-creating?For all of these reasons, I am over the moon to be spending the next hour with Firdaus Kharas who has been at the forefront of using his creativity, creating animations for social change for the last 25 years. As the founder of Chocolate Moose Media, Firdaus is a pioneer in the world of social enterprise. He has created 4,000 animated shorts, versioned into 371 languages that have been used in 198 countries and seen by over a billion people.
In that time he has addressed deeply sensitive social justice issues, using animation as a tool to enable global commonality and to cut through the filters of personal perception to enable us to remain receptive to messages of influence we may not otherwise have considered.
Firdaus has been showered with 110 awards, he has received the prestigious Peabody Award and was named one of the world’s 50 Most Talented Social Innovators and the Best Global Informative Short Film Producer for his unique ability to cross the barriers to human communications like language, religion and culture.
Recently he has also released a brand new book: Creativity - The Key to a Remarkable Life. In the book, Firdaus provides straightforward advice on how to open your mind to become a creative thinker, and some of those ideas we will also explore today.
So get your creative hat on, and let's dive into the world of animation and storytelling to ignite epic social change.
