  • Shelly Horton: Meaning in Media & Magic In Influence
Welcome To Another Episode of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.
Now today's guest is a face and a voice whose ‘sparkle’ many of our local listeners would feel right at home with - and that guest is the incredible Shelly Horton. The reason she might be familiar to you is because she is a regular on Channel Nine’s Today Show, Today Extra, Weekend Today and the 3pm News; her lifestyle segments on 9Honey or hosting Talking Married on 9Now.
For more than 25 years Shel has honed her craft as one of Australia’s most loved journalists both in news and entertainment, and today she is also a wild and free woman and entrepreneur. Shelly and her husband Darren co-founded Shell Shocked Media around five years ago. Like so many of us she has found freedom in the purpose and creativity found in running her own business.
It's fair to say that of all of the guests I have interviewed for the Decoding Purpose Podcast that Shelly’s charisma and bubbly nature creates a feel good factor which I have no doubt is one of the reason she has pursued a purpose that has enabled her to influence and inspire audiences all over the world.
Influence is certainly a subject we explored as one of the most significant ways we can shift our message into a movement or amplify our purpose. Along with unpacking shills in influence we also got raw, vulnerable and went purposefully deep. This included looking at the social expectations placed on women with a focus on her conscious decision to be child free, the importance of diverse and inclusive representation in the media including whether the media should be leading the way with regards to social expression. We unpacked incredible stories of resilience with a focus on the power of purpose in the bounce back, and finally we focussed on what it takes to act on the 2 minutes of courage that could change your life.
With all of the above in mind, get ready today to land in the world of Shelly Horton. The Shelly Show is one of charisma and razzle dazzle on a foundation of deep introspection, integrity and emotional intelligence.

  • Hugh Mackay AO: The Inner Self - The Joy of Discovering Who We Really Are
Welcome To Another Episode Of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.
Now, when it comes to purpose I have never been sold on the idea that purpose is all about knowing your why, or having a statement of why. A statement of why is simply words coming out of our mouth or onto a page. These words can help us to access purpose, but I think there is a much deeper truth. Purpose is not WHY we exist. Purpose is WHO we are.
With that in mind, what if searching for the truth of WHO we are was a much better starting place than starting WHY? What if we were brave enough to peel back the layers of socially constructed identity and of ego in order to discover a truer version of ourselves. If we did that could it also be possible that we would discover purpose there? And if all of that is true then where do we begin?
Today's guest will answer all of those questions and more. Hugh Mackay AO is a social researcher, psychologist and bestselling author of 19 books, including The Good Life, The Art of Belonging and his latest book which we are diving into today - The Inner Self: The Joy of Discovering Who We Really Are.
The Inner Self is a book about the ways we hide from the truth about ourselves and the psychological freedom we enjoy when we finally face that most searching question of all: 'Who am I, really?' Hugh Mackay explores our 'top 20' hiding places - from addiction to materialism, nostalgia to victimhood. He explains how it is our fear of love's demands that drive us into hiding.
Hugh has had a 60-year career in social research, and was also a weekly newspaper columnist for over 25 years. In recognition of his pioneering work in social research, Hugh has been elected a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2015.
So get ready to dive into your truth within. Hold on tight - this episode will take you on a ride. Welcome to the podcast.

  • Miracle Olatunji: Generation Change - The Next Wave In Leadership
As our regular listeners know well by now, season two of the Decoding Purpose Podcast has had one intention, and that is to decode the turning points that catalyse purpose. We've had bushfires, global pandemics, protests and all of that overlapped by the urgency of climate change. It's been huge for everyone, but the impact of 2020 will undeniably influence the next generation the most.
After all, It is their dharma to pioneer a brand new world, through solving old world problems. It will be their dharma to heal the planet, to invent, innovate or recreate the solutions we need in order to ignite sustainable living.
The real question that needs to be addressed as we traverse beyond the 2020 turning point is how we can empower teenagers, children, or our children's children with the tools they will need to fulfil this epic purpose. A purpose that in some part previous generations have left them to deal with. As it turns out, what they need is a miracle and today on Decoding Purpose that is exactly what we shall deliver.
Miracle Olatunji is a student, entrepreneur & public speaker, and author. She is the youngest guest I have featured on the Decoding Purpose podcast at only 19 years of age, yet her wisdom and determination goes well beyond her earth years.
She founded a startup called OpportuniMe when she was just 17 years old with the goal of providing the next generation of leaders with personal and career development resources, opportunities and content. More recently, miracle- her book "Purpose: How To Live and Lead With Impact."
Olatunji was honoured by the Boston Mayor's Office this spring as an EXTRAOrdinary Woman during the city's International Women's Day Celebration. She was also recently part of Barbie's #YouCanBeAnything #MoreRoleModels campaign.
So if you don't already know that 'anything is possible' if we trust the creation of a more abundant future for our planet to the next generation then you will after this podcast. Welcome to Decoding Purpose.

  • Nick Lee & Tom Nehmy: The Wheels Of Well Being & On Purpose Mental Health
Welcome To Another Episode Of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.
Over the last few weeks, I have spoken to quite a few of my friends in Melbourne where Covid has very much hit Australia the hardest. I am lucky to say that my friends and colleagues are incredibly smart humans with all of the skills available to self care and manage their energy state, yet even for them, the last few weeks have been so much harder than anyone could have anticipated. There is frustration, anger and exhaustion. I have no doubt that this same emotion is being experienced in many places all over the world as we speak. Some refer to this as the ‘silent pandemic’.
That is why in today's episode I wanted to bring my focus towards our wellbeing, especially the preventive management of our mental health, because even if we are not living in Melbourne, we are all living in a world where the pressures of uncertainty in our personal and professional lives are playing out every touch point.
And this is the exact reason I wanted to invite onto the podcast the incredible duo behind ‘The Healthy Minds Program’ Nick Lee, and Tom Nehmy. To give you some background, Healthy Minds is the world's first psychological skills program demonstrated to prevent the onset of symptoms of depression and anxiety while also reducing risk for eating disorders. It teaches the specific skills associated with emotional wellness and resilience.
The product is a result of 4 years of intensive research, by Tom who is an award-winning Australian psychologist. The Healthy Minds Program allows everyone to learn how to develop – and maintain – a healthy, balanced, emotional life, and to be at their best regardless of external circumstances. And never before have these tools been more important.
What I loved about today's conversation was the flow between Tom's incredible expertise as a psychologist and Nick's real life experience. Nick was faced with one of life's hardest challenges losing his wife to cancer. With that in mind, this is an interview with both credibility and depth, but also a good dose of truth telling around the reality of life when life gets tough.
So kick back, and get ready to ignite your well being with Nick Lee and Tom Nehmy.

  • Janine Owen: Prosperity, Purpose and Rewilding Women
Welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast.
Now, when I was preparing for today's podcast I realised something interesting, and that was that I had never interviewed anyone about the connection between purpose and how we manage our finances.
I found this interesting because it also got me thinking the paradox between what it means to be a heat centred, purpose driven human living a life of deep service, while at the same time being 100% comfortable with asking for the money we need a) in order to survive and secondly to amplify our purpose. In chatting with some of my friends in this space it seems that sometimes there is an uncomfortable pull between the need to create purpose in our lives and the essential need for profits while doing it. I'm excited to say that amongst things today's guest and I dove straight into that chasm - because let's face it being worthy of purpose, means we are also worthy of wealth to make it happen.
But that is not all we covered. Today's guest is the incredible Janine Owen who has made it her mission to educate, inspire and activate 'The Raised Effect'. This includes raising money, but it also includes raising our games as women, as parents, and as purpose driven pioneers in a world that needs us to be the change more than ever before. Today's conversation was full of gold as we went around the world diving into parenting, driving profitable and purpose driven organisations, unpacking the role of the purpose economy, and we also took a deep dive into raw and juicy details of being empowered wild women in business, but more importantly in life.
To give you some background, For more than 15 years, Janine has mastered the art of crafting social change visions, curating strategies and in assisting social enterprises and non for profits to gain cut-through in the competitive charity space. She has headed up fundraising and marketing campaigns for some of Australia’s best-loved charities and social enterprises.
In 2017, Janine launched into the world of business when she established a consultancy agency Raised Collective. While leading Raised Collective, Janine identified a different problem that she knew she could solve. So many charities are desperately needing funds to continue their work, yet lacking necessary resources to deliver. In response to this issue, she launched Grant’d in 2019.
So without delay kick back and get ready to go on a golden adventure. Welcome to the podcast Janine Owen.

  • Jonathan Miller: The Radical Art Of Conscious Communication
Welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast.
One thing I have noticed in my own world, and in talking to others in my network is that more than 6 months into this global pandemic, it's fair to say that we are all starting to feel a little weary. For some of us that might be translating as stress or worry. For others, it might be irritation, anger or even rage. I know there are many people out there feeling the full weight of depression and anxiety - because let's face it. Regardless of the silver lining moments of which I might say there are many, this is still an incredibly difficult time.
So I ask you, just as I ask myself, how is that manifesting in my life. How is that manifesting in your relationships with yourself and others close to you. What is it that you need to feel seen or feel heard? What is it that you need to give those around you, so that they can feel your love and support.
Because at the end of day, we have all been pulled apart. For some of us friends, families and lovers are simply getting by day by day - with many hours and many miles between them and those that they love. Even those of us with our families by our sides, we can still feel isolated and lost inside our thoughts, our feelings and our weariness of a year that has felt like groundhog day. So How are you feeling? How are you really feeling?
Because despite the distance real or experienced, emotional intimacy is the one and the only thing that can keep us truly connected. And intimacy can only happen through one door. The door of purposeful and mindful communication.
And that brings me to today's guest. Jonathan Miller has spent hundreds of hours in deliberate communication practice with a focus on conflict resolution. The catalyst of an argument with his wife on a road trip led him to the realisation that applying purpose in not only how we speak, but also in how we respond enables us to build bridges to a deep level of emotional intimacy and conscious connection.
What I love about Jonathon is that there is no bravado claiming that he is anything other than a normal, down to earth human who realised that the art communication was a key in his ability to create deeply meaningful relationships. That said there is nothing normal about his pursuit to own his story, and to understand the stories of others in a more conscious way. As a result he became a Certified Professional Coach and has done extensive training in Nonviolent Communication. He is also a dedicated Vipassana meditation practitioner, mastering the art of purposeful presence.
So without further delay 'let's talk' with an incredible voice of communication mastery. Jonathan Miller.

When the moon is full, women are at their highest point energetically - so for ladies out there looking for some inspiration to celebrate tonight's full moon get ready to bask in the light of today's guest.

Jennifer McMahon is the serial founder of two purpose-driven organisations. In 2017 She founded The Modern Day Woman Movement which is a group of female leaders across Australia with one thing in common, breaking stereotypes and living outside their comfort zones. In 2019 she also founded Modern People who are Australia’s first Purpose-for-Profit People and Culture Company connecting individuals and companies to Purpose.
Jen and I connected on the phone in March literally in the week that COVID hit Australian shores. It was evident from our first conversation that destiny was at play - and that we would be partners in purpose. We have already worked on a project together called the Alliance as a part of Modern People which Jen founded to help people purposefully navigate the pandemic, but I think we both know that the best is yet to come.
Today's conversation is a true reflection of the banter between two women incredibly passionate about unleashing purpose in the world for individuals and organisations. And it's a conversation with two women willing to dive into the intersection between the professional and the personal, the strategic and the spiritual, the truth and the transformation.
So as long as you're not driving get your pen and a journal ready - you will need them to jot down the many notes of inspiration - because Jen McMahon is one of the most inspiring people I know.

  • Cameron Merchant: Waves of Grit, Growth & A Greater Purpose
Welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast.
Many of you would know Cam Merchant as the charismatic Aussie cricketer who found love on the Australian version of Married At First Sight when he met and married the stunning Jules Robinson in January 2019. Since then the pair got married for real, and in only a few weeks their beautiful baby is due.
With all of that in mind it would be so easy to think that Cam's arrival at “happily ever after” was simply his fate. That maybe he just got lucky. As it turns out his journey into purpose involved facing some of life's toughest ‘growth waves’ starting off with surviving the 2004 Thailand Tsunami.
As a result of this event Cam suffered from Post-traumatic stress disorder that led to the onset of depression and anxiety, and eventually, a rock bottom moment that changed everything in his life. Like so many great stories of purpose they so often begin with pain, that turns to hope and hope that eventually becomes Joy. The Joy for Cam is undeniably his beautiful wife and baby to be.
In today's conversation, It was such an honour to be in the studio with cam as he shares his story in such a real, raw and relatable way. Cam is not only a loveable guy full of charisma - he is also courageous, gutsy and genuine in his need to contribute to a world that needs more men like him, empowered to connect deeply with emotion and have conversations that really do matter - and that fundamentally make this place a better world for us and future generations.
Today, Cam continues to work as a brand ambassador, master of ceremonies, speaker and influencer. • Catherine Molloy - How To Pivot With Purpose, Conscious Leadership & A New World Influence
Welcome to Another Episode of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.
I had the pleasure of meeting today's guest in Singapore at the end of last year, where we were both working. At the time we met, I was sitting in the hotel lobby with a mutual colleague when Catherine Molloy came bounding into the room with a beaming smile and excitedly waving a book around in the air. After shaking my hand with the certainty of a woman empowered, she proceeded to tell me that the book she was holding in her hand was the “The Million Dollar Handshake: The ultimate guide to revolutionise how you connect and communicate in business and life” - And that it was printed in Chinese.
This book became Cath's chart-topper putting her on the map as a global thought leader and speaker, and like so many of us right up until February this year she was booked on flight after flight attending conferences all over the world - And then the world stopped. All travel stopped. Conferences stopped. And you guessed it...Handshakes also stopped, but given handshakes date back to the 5th century B.C; Cath Molloy doesn't think that handshakes will be gone for long!
To give you some additional background on Cath along with being a best selling author, she is a communications expert specialising in leadership, sales & service. For 25 years, she has immersed herself in business, training, and facilitation mastering communication and body language psychology. Cath also holds a Masters Degree in Neuro-linguistic Programming as well as qualifications in Business, Leadership & Management. She is also a qualified DISC accredited consultant.
In today's conversation, Cath and I had a wonderful conversation with a focus on how we pivot with purpose. How do we pivot our sales strategy in the context of Covid 19? How do we ignite influence in a virtual environment? How can we become deeply conscious of our physical presence and body language online or in life - and going a little deeper, how does our connection to the body influence our connection to purpose? We also talk about behaviour styles and explore how these archetypes can inform our purpose? We unlock the purpose of conscious leadership.
So without further delay, kick back, give yourself a handshake just to remember the noble art of handshaking, and let's dive into the world of the one and only Catherine Molloy.
