Eldritch Horror at Abyssal Depths - The Aboleth

Lurking in the depths since 1st edition D&D, aboleths are the legally distinct Lovecraftian horrors of the deep we've all grown to fear. Aboleths are basically great big psychic lamprey eels lurking in the aquatic ruins of their former civilization and plotting on how to take vengeance on the dumb land dwellers. So, how should you run them in your adventures? And what are you supposed to do when your DM decides to throw you into the deep end with them? Don't breathe the slime and stay out of the pool as we go through everything you need to know.

The Playtest Laboratory of D&D

D&D is not a dead and static game, it's a living one that constantly changes. Wizards of the Coast is constantly brewing up new content ideas and has been since 5th edition started and making new content that you won't find in the Player's Handbook. But new content is a double-edged sword, it brings more options and new excitement, but it can also disrupt the game as it is. Is this new class option game breaking? Who can tell? Ultimately it's up to your Dungeon Master to determine what they will allow at their table.

The result is a crown-like set of horns, brightly colored, often sigil-inscribed skin, and some truly interesting fey magic powers.
