We carefully examine what the Bible teaches about divorce and remarriage. We address common misunderstandings, showing that while adultery is a serious sin that can prevent someone from inheriting the kingdom of God, the Bible does not teach that all divorce and remarriage result in adultery. In the Old Covenant, divorce and remarriage were allowed, and Jesus' teachings correct the misuse of divorce by exposing the sinful motives behind wrongful divorces motivated by lust and selfishness. We explore Paul's writings, which emphasize that while God's desire is for marriages to remain intact, there are circumstances, including abandonment by an unbelieving spouse, where divorce and remarriage is permissible. This message encourages us to develop a biblically sound conviction on the heart of marriage, not seek a list of rules for breaking a marriage.
