This week Ang is joined by Adela Manzoor, a public speaker, podcaster and family lawyer. The emotional aspect of divorce is extremely difficult for all involved, but the legal aspect can be even harder. Suddenly, you find yourself in real conflict with a person that you have spent a lifetime loving and caring for. But there is hope. As Adela explains in this interview, not all lawyers are there to bleed you dry and move onto the next client. A good lawyer will become your friend, your confidant, and in some cases, your counsellor. But how do you pick the right lawyer and what should you prepare yourself for?
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Adela, who wanted to help her clients through divorce, talks about how she underestimated the emotional challenges of the job and shares how this aspect changed her perception of divorce proceedings.
- What are the main things to look for when hiring a divorce lawyer? As Adela explains, most people think it’s someone that can get the job done, quickly and cheaply, but there are far more important factors to consider.
- Adela breaks down, in simple terms, the process of going through a divorce, from initial meetings with your lawyer, to first negotiations, right through to court procedure.
- Adela outlines the difference between a clean break divorce and one where you still have legal ties to your ex partner, and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
BEST MOMENTS
“You need to find a lawyer that doesn’t just help you on the legal side, but on the emotional side too.”
“Try to be humble, try to let go of your ego, try to go through mediation. If you don’t, things can get nasty, and expensive, very fast.”
“There’s a lot at stake when you go to court, which in turn can stir emotions and lead to hostile behaviour.”

Do I Really Hate Men?
Interesting question and one I have asked myself many times. This is not an ‘I hate men’ podcast neither is it just an account of my divorce and the many awful events leading up to and during it. This podcast is a safe space to delve into what happens when relationships end, it provides guidance on how to carry on being a functioning adult and/or Single Mum when you feel broken inside.
This podcast provides hope sprinkled with humour, at times its emotional at times inspiring and at times sad. I have a message to share with women around the world, come join me and your global sisters for a weekly dose of Superhero Mum inspiration and stories.
My mission -to help women and mothers globally to recover from relationship pain, lead meaningful happy lives and inspire their children to succeed.
NOTE – I need you to know that I don’t hate men! It’s important that you know there are many great men out there. Many fantastic fathers and single fathers trying hard to do a great job.
