Corporate Social Responsibility is becoming a more prominent feature within Corporate America. Consumers care about the culture of a company and how that manifests in their business practices and their social/environmental impact and accountability.
The importance of giving back to your community cannot necessarily be measured in traditional ROI and increased sales, however having a good reputation of Corporate Social Responsibility could be the deciding factor for a consumer when choosing between your product/service and the other guy.
There are tons of ways to get involved and it doesn't have to be with a nationally recognized charity like Children's Miracle Network (the chosen charity of RE/MAX, LLC). Find ways to get involved locally that inspires you and have a positive impact in your community.
VAREP is another fantastic association servicing active duty military and veterans achieve the American Dream of homeownership.
I chat with Christopher Cunningham, loan officer with Guild Mortgage and current Vice President of VAREP Northern Nevada, about the Veterans' Association of Real Estate Professionals and its features and benefits for real estate professionals and consumers.

IRS tax code section 1031 allows for owners of income property to defer the tax they would pay when selling the property, by rolling the proceeds into another income real estate purchase. Pretty sweet. The rule has been around since 1921 and is widely underutilized.
Kandyce Meyers from IPX 1031 Exchange Service, Inc. has been a 1031 exchange intermediary for 22 years. I chatted with her about this unique IRS rule. If you have investor clients, be sure they know about this IRS perk and send them this episode.
Kandas can be reached at 775-721-4190.

Garrett Matthews has been part of RE/MAX for many, many years. He ascended from a sales agent to a co-owner of a brokerage and then to the pinnacle at RE/MAX HQ in Denver, Colorado.
In this conversation, I get to know Garrett's background and what it's like to rise up to the corporate level and support so many other brokers and agents.
Plus, I learn what it's like to be a competitive surfer.

We all have a gremlin in our head that tell us the worst things about ourselves. It is awful and won't shut up. That voice can derail our progress in life and business or completely prevent us from taking on a new project or challenge.
In this conversation with Co-Active coach, Kimberley Elliott, we talk about that little voice, she calls the Saboteur, and how to quiet it down and reclaim control of your thoughts and your life.
Be sure to try out the breathing exercise she shares to get back into your body and be present in the current moment. Share how that was for you by sending me an email: [email protected]
Kimberley can be reached at: [email protected] or 916-340-4151.

Marijuana is being legalized in states throughout the US, but it's still illegal Federally. The marijuana industry has affected real estate and everything is a little hazy.
In this episode, I have an open chat with broker Amy Lessinger and attorney Cassel von Baeyer to highlight the issues of this new industry.
This is just a conversation myself and my guests are in no way giving advice. Please defer to your local legal council, broker and state laws when dealing with marijuana in your business.
We mention the Cole Memorandum. In case you're curious, here are the eight enforcement priorities that were set forth therein: 1. Prevent distribution to minors. 2. Prevent cannabis revenues from going to support criminal enterprises. 3. Prevent distribution to states where it is not legal. 4. Prevent cannabis activity from being used as a cover for trafficking of other illegal drugs or illegal activity. 5. Prevent violence and the use of firearms in the production and distribution. 6. Prevent drugged driving. 7. Prevent growth of cannabis on public land. 8. Prevent cannabis use/growth on federal property.

Here is Part 2 of the mini internship series. This week I have top producing loan officer, Patrick Winchell in the studio to dive into all the behind-the-scenes workings of the lending world.
The biggest misconception of lending is that getting a loan is easy. Thanks in large part to online mortgage providers. "Click here, get mortgage," not so much.

When I joined my dad's practice he had me spend half a day with an escrow officer, loan officer and marketing company to learn the broader scope of a transaction the real estate business. I am so grateful for those experiences because I have so much more understanding and respect for all the talent and expertise that goes into making a deal come together.
I've also seen escrow officers be so disrespected and no appreciation for what it is they do for all parties in a deal.
To help bring some courtesy and understanding to the table, I have a two-part series, an audio mini internship if you will. First up: Senior Escrow Officer, Suzanne Silverman, and veteran title officer, Lisa Quilici, from First Centennial Title.
These ladies have decades of experience and have seen some stuff.
