  • Episode 20: We Binge Halloween movies! Part 3
Welcome back to Episode 20 of Do You Even Binge?

We’re deep into our Halloween binge this week as we dive into a mix of unforgettable and disappointing horror classics.

    We start with the letdowns:
Jason X takes the franchise into space (enough said), and The Blair Witch Project, the found-footage phenomenon that promised terror but left us wondering if it’s one of the most overrated horror movies ever made. From the creepy woods to the infamous “boogers” scene, we break down what worked and what didn’t.

Next, we revisit Carrie, from her awkward first period to prom-night revenge. Between the telekinesis, blood-soaked finale, and over-the-top religious mother, De Palma’s film remains one of the most memorable horror stories of all time.

Then it’s An American Werewolf in London, featuring the greatest transformation scene in horror history and a bizarre dream sequence you’ll never forget. We follow David’s journey from tourist to terror and explore why this movie still holds up decades later.

Finally, we take on Poltergeist, the suburban ghost story that redefined haunted house films. From the clown under the bed to “They’re here,” and the house built on a cemetery, we revisit every spine-tingling moment that made this a classic.

Another week, another Halloween binge. We’re laughing, debating, and scaring ourselves silly all month long. Tune in and binge with us.

  • Episode 19: We Binge Halloween movies! Part 2
🎃 Welcome back to “Do You Even Binge?”

It’s October and we’re diving into week 2 of our horror movie binge series! This week, we cover a mix of classic, campy, and cult favorite horror films: Blacula (1972), Scary Movie (2000), The Exorcist (1973), and Vampire in Brooklyn (1995).

First up, Blacula — the first prominent black vampire on screen. We break down the story of African Prince Mamuwalde (William Marshall), cursed by Dracula for refusing to join the slave trade, and his centuries-long search for his reincarnated love in America. We dive into the blaxploitation context, the social commentary, and why this film became a cornerstone for black horror cinema.

Next, Scary Movie — a parody of late ‘90s horror films, where we discuss casting stories (including Anna Faris’ breakout role), the influence of Dimension Studios, and some of our favorite ridiculous moments from this iconic comedy-horror mashup.

Then, we get possessed by The Exorcist — discussing the extended version, Max von Sydow’s Father Merrin, the iconic Regan MacNeil possession, Ouija board chaos, medical investigations gone wrong, priestly interventions, and legendary scenes like the crucifix confrontation and spider-walk. We also touch on the restored footage and fan-favorite elements that make this one of the scariest films ever.

Finally, Vampire in Brooklyn — Eddie Murphy teams up with Wes Craven in a vampire tale with Caribbean roots. We break down the serious intentions behind the film, the studio’s push for comedy, the first appearance of a “familiar” sidekick (Kadeem Hardison), and behind-the-scenes trivia including Murphy’s Nutty Professor trade-off and the infamous wig controversy.

Whether it’s classic horror, cinema history, or horror-comedy mashups, we cover the films, the trivia, and our reactions.👻 Movies discussed in this episode:
    • Blacula (1972)
    • Scary Movie (2000)
    • The Exorcist (1973)

🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

This week, we binge the sci-fi classics Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), breaking down what makes each film iconic and how they changed the landscape of sci-fi and action movies.

    Main Topic:

Alien (1979) – Written and directed by Ridley Scott. We explore the crew of a commercial starship who discover a nest of alien eggs, leading to one of the most terrifying sci-fi monsters ever created. Saul Bass’ opening credits set the tone for suspense, realism, and a confined, tense atmosphere that keeps you on edge. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) emerges as the lone survivor, showcasing courage and ingenuity.

Aliens (1986) – Written and directed by James Cameron. Ripley returns after 57 years to a colony now overrun by xenomorphs. Joined by a crew of marines, she must confront the alien threat again. The film introduces intense action sequences, Laurence Fishburne as the Bowery King, and even more focus on weaponry, creating a relentless, high-stakes environment.

    Highlights:
    • Trailers and iconic clips from both films
    • Saul Bass’ legendary opening sequence for Alien
    • Ripley’s evolution as a strong female lead
    • Cameronverse connections: 3 actors from Aliens also appear in the Terminator franchise
    • Key action scenes, including the infamous chestburster and loader fights
    • Family Guy parody and other pop culture references

  • Episode 12: We Binge the Godfather Trilogy
🎙️ We binged the Godfather Trilogy and squeezed it all into this episode.

Felipe and Lesa break down why everyone loves Parts I & II, and give their take on what went wrong with Part III.

    📚 Interesting Facts
    • Mario Puzo wrote The Godfather novel because he was broke and in debt; he had no connection to the mob and based the story entirely on research. The book hit #1 on the bestseller list and stayed for 67 weeks.
    • Francis Ford Coppola only directed The Godfather because his company was about to go bankrupt and every other director turned it down. He rewrote the script and navigated early backlash from the Italian-American Civil Rights League.
    • Godfather I won Best Picture and made more money than any film that year. Godfather II won six Oscars, including Best Picture, the first sequel ever to do so.
    🎞️ Godfather I – Family, Power & Betrayal
    • Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando / Robert De Niro) leads the Corleone family while in poor health. His children Sonny (James Caan), Fredo (John Cazale), Michael (Al Pacino), and Connie (Talia Shire) navigate family loyalty and modern mafia pressures.
    • Michael, a WWII hero, initially avoids the family business, but circumstances force him in. Key moments: assassination attempts, Fredo’s mistakes, a Sicily escape & marriage to Appolonia, Sonny’s death at a toll booth, and Michael’s rise to Don.
    • The iconic baptism scene cements Michael as Don Corleone and signals the shift to his new life.
🎞️ Godfather II – Past & Present Collide
    • Michael’s reign as Don is challenged while the film alternates with young Vito’s rise from Ellis Island immigrant to neighborhood Don.
    • Betrayal drives the story: Michael deals with Fredo’s mistakes, Senate hearings inspired by real-life Joseph Valachi investigations, and conflicts with Hyman Roth, based on Meyer Lansky.
    🎞️ Godfather III – Legacy & Controversy
    • Set 20 years later, Michael is older, wealthy, and still entangled in crime. New characters like Vincent Corleone (Andy Garcia) and Michael’s daughter (Sofia Coppola) shift family dynamics.
    • Episode hosts discuss why Part III is considered weaker: Michael’s character inconsistencies, awkward casting, and clunky plot points.
    • Bonus: the infamous gnocchi scene and controversial Sofia Coppola performance.
    🎮 Game Time!
Play along with Felipe as he guesses the movie from these plot descriptions:
    • “Woman travels to a new land and kills the first person she meets…” (Wizard of Oz)
    • “An old woman tells a bunch of scientists about the time she shagged a homeless guy on a boat.” (Titanic)
    • “A man seeks revenge against those who killed his dog.” (John Wick)
    • “Husband watches his wife die, and his only son become disabled… then kidnapped.” (Finding Nemo)
    • “Uncle kills brother and tries to kill nephew. Uncle’s goons kill Uncle.” (Lion King)
    • “A monk recruits a teenager to commit an act of terrorism, and he ends up destroying a space station.” (Star Wars)
