  • I AM NOT MY DIAGNOSIS With Caleb Johnson

Caleb is a twenty-five-year-old with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. He is completely bound to his bed without the use of his feet, legs, arms, or legs. Due to the weakening of his lungs, he has to wear a BiPAP oxygen machine twenty-four hours a day.

His grandmother is his full-time caregiver. Despite his diagnosis, Caleb is the epitome of “I am not my diagnosis.” He remains positive in all things.

It’s unfathomable to me that even with everything that goes wrong in his life, he still says he remains positive because other people “have it worse.”

Listen to this podcast to hear from one of the most positive people I have ever met.

  • "I Overdosed on Heroin" with Mikel Brooks

On this weeks episode of Doc Talks we sit down with Mikel Brooks.

Two tours in the middle east. The second, as a combat engineer, clearing roadside bombs. With each explosion, a shockwave pierced his body. "The vibrations from it can separate your soft tissues," he explained. After every one, he went back out. "If you weren't bleeding," he said, "if you weren't missing a limb, you got up and went out. A headache and dizzy, you got over it and you did your job."…

"I overdosed on heroine," he admitted. The purple heart and valor-decorated Army veteran had had enough. "I was lost. That's the only way I know how to explain it."

After his suicide attempt Mikel looked for a place to make a difference in the world. That’s when he founded We Are The 22, W.A.T. for short. WAT is a veteran suicide task force.

Be sure to listen to this story of how he lost it all, but then learned the best way to have love and acceptance is to give it away.

  • Tameisha & Adrian Baxter
On this week's episode of Doc Talks, we visit with Tameisha and Adrian Baxter.    Tameisha and her husband are foster parents. They have had over 15 children placed with them throughout the years. Adrian is Tameisha’s daughter.

While Tameisha was not a foster child, she was brought up in a very dysfunctional house, and God placed many families in her path who took her in and helped raise her throughout her life until the time she got married.  She says, “I understand, first hand, how much people who choose not to turn an eye on people like me make a huge impact!

We talk about home life, not knowing when a child may come into your care, how it affects your biological children, and the hope of being good enough.    This is a heartwarming episode as not only do we get to hear the story through the eyes of the parent but also the child.     You can find Doc Brian at:
