Greetings leader of people. If you're willing to listen, I have some information and advice that you need to hear. You see, your people are burned out. Even if they weren't prior to the disease that shall not be named, they are now. They need you.
So take a moment and listen in. See if you recognize these traits in your own people. If you do, then I'm giving you the resources you need to help them.
Your greatest resource is the people that you have walking the halls day in and day out. They are the life of your organization or practice. They need you to realize that they aren't okay and they need you to do something about it.
I've broken them out into four different groups and each one has their own set of needs. Listen especially hard to those in group four. This group grows each and every day and they need you the absolute most.
Do you recognize these traits in your people? If so, dedicate some time to help them get through.
"Your most important resource isn't your fancy buildings, your latest technology, or the good cafeteria. It's the people who are walking the halls every single day." Dr. Errin Weisman
In this episode:
[01:20] Have you considered becoming a coach?
[02:32] Do you have a boss who'd be willing to listen to feedback? Have them start here!
[03:32] The first of the four groups that are in the workforce right now. These are the "D" people.
[04:41] Group two is filled with the super productive workaholics you know.
[05:46] Do you know some disruptors? These are the people in group three.
[07:02] The silent but deadly group is the fourth. This is the scariest group and more and more people are getting here.
[08:53] Do better my boss friends!

Your passions are valid. Going through medical school and starting your career may make it seem like anything else is not important. Your passions are important. Listen as Dr. Susie Sharpe shares her story and why she is not just multi-passionate, she instead has two careers.
Dr. Susie has been interested in art since she was very young. She and her family immigrated from Korea right as she was entering high school and she was bullied. A lot. She didn't yet speak English and she was working on learning more about the country and culture.
She decided to enroll in art and absolutely loved the outlet that it provided her. However, she knew she didn't want to be a starving artist. She pursued the sciences in college and later obtained her medical degree.
It didn't take long after starting in medicine to realize that she wanted and needed more. She started creating works of art again and is now a world-renowned artist. Her work is featured in shows all over the world and she has built a career in art and medicine.
Wish you could do the same? Listen in to hear her whole story and all the advice she gives to her peers.
"A lot of times, the way out is through." Dr. Errin Weisman
In this episode:
[02:51] Welcome Susie Sharpe and hear all about the magic she's putting into the world!
[03:40] How did she get started in art and then return to it?
[06:46] Medicine truly squashes creativity if you don't foster your passions.
[06:11] You have to carve out time for yourself.
[09:43] Learn how she got restarted in art while practicing medicine.
[13:28] What is Susie's advice for anyone thinking they can't reach high levels with their passions?

Once you've beaten big burnout, it's a lot easier to recognize baby burnout. The little mile markers that indicate you're on your way to pain and suffering. Listen as Dr. Marion shares how you can start to recognize baby burnout and stop it before it gets out of hand.
In this masterclass we shared several tips for getting through burnout relapse quickly and in as painless a manner as possible. Which tip are you implementing today?

We need more physician coaches. Which is why I'm so excited that Dr. Blake Jones is going to join me in the coaching world. Listen as he shares his journey, why he thinks coaching is so important, and how his and his wife's lives have changed after working with me.
Dr. Blake Jones is an MSK Radiologist who realized he was experiencing burnout right out of residency. He very quickly started feeling that notion of, "This is it?" He and his wife initially tried to work on their burnout themselves but realized they needed help.
We now work together one on one and we do couples sessions. Once he began embracing his superpower of being multi passionate and a super learner, things really started to change. He loves learning new things and learning lots of new things. He doesn't want to master everything.
This skill serves him well as a coach.
He fully believes that all physicians need coaches. The more coaches we have, the more peers will be helped, the more able we are to change the face of healthcare as an industry and a profession.
"There are so many physicians and I think just about every one of us could probably use this." Dr. Blake Jones
In this episode:
[02:43] Welcome Dr. Blake Jones to the show and learn more about him and his brilliance.
[06:10] Blake and his wife have both been working with me and we've all learned a lot.
[07:22] Why they decided they needed additional help with regard to burnout.
[08:36] What has his experience as a man in healthcare been like?
[10:36] Dr. Blake shares the most influential lessons he's learned through coaching.
[12:33] How has embracing his multi passionate personality impacted his new baby business?
[15:08] Why he started considering becoming a life coach.
[16:16] Who is he a coach for?
[21:26] What does he want people to do after hearing his story?
[24:03] He was part of the inspiration for the "How to Start a Super Crazy Business" series.
[25:42] There is room for additional physician coaches.

Are you ready for my Summer Solocast Series? I am doing some quick solocasts to get you juiced up, infused with encouragement and inspiration. I want you to go about your summer loving your life and making things better.
It's important that you acknowledge your burnout. Let's get real. You wouldn't be listening to this podcast if you didn't know on some level that you were experiencing burnout. Plus once you've named it, you can address it.
If you're just not sure whether or not you are experiencing burnout, listen as I share the D's, E's, and F's of burnout. If any of them hit home, then you're likely burned out.
But where do you go next? What do you do?
First, ask yourself this question. Are your needs being met? If they aren't then you need to address those before you go any further. Give yourself the time and space to actually dig in and do the work.
You can do hard things. You are enough. Stop trying to be everything for everyone. You can't.
"You are enough, you can not be everything to everybody." Dr. Errin Weisman
In this episode:[02:28] When it comes to burnout, you first have to acknowledge that you have it.
[03:05] Listen as I list the D, E's and F's and see if any of these hit home.
[04:07] I share where you can go from here.
[06:04] Look at what you need and see if they are being met.
[07:08] The most important thing is to make time and space for yourself.
[08:20] Everything that is different about you is your superpower.
[11:25] You are enough, you can not be everything to everyone.
[12:42] You can do hard things, just make sure the hard things are ones you want to do.

Welcome to the Doctor Me First Summer Showcase where we are spotlighting the other amazing doctor podcasts that are out there. Over the next eight weeks you will get to listen to an episode from a different doctor podcast and then a solo podcast from me. This episode is from the RX For Success podcast with Dr. Randy Cook.
Niran S. Al-Agba, MD is a third-generation primary care physician practicing for 20 years in her hometown. She began working in her father's medical office on Saturdays when she was 9 and has done every job in a medical office that there is including receptionist, medical assistant, janitor, and all the way to physician owner. After graduating from Michigan State University with a BS in Lyman Briggs Physiology and History of Health and Humanities, she attended University of Washington School of Medicine, graduating in 1999. She completed an internship and residency at Denver Children's Hospital/University of Colorado SOM and returned home to work in her father's practice in 2001 for a few months and then permanently in 2002.
Dr. Al-Agba's Prescription for Success:
Number 1: Be exactly who you are; don't try to change for other people
Number 2: Learn to sift the personal from the professional feedback. It's not about you as a human being, rather about something you did or can do better.
Number 3: Be brutally honest. Don't sugarcoat the message, tell people, for good or bad, exactly what you're thinking.

The work that we do is not impacted by what we wear. I say this because the image of that white coat actually contributed to my burnout. It leads to thoughts of being better than and to needing to be perfect.
Believe it or not, when you put on the white coat, you don't suddenly become all knowing and perfect. Which is why I fully believe that we need to ditch the dress code and become more focused on being the best doctors we can be both for our patients and ourselves.
What do you think? Do you feel that the dress code we cater to affects our work in any way? Or does it only affect our mindset?
"I think we should look at professionalism as an action and a culture rather than what we put on our bodies." Dr. Errin Weisman
In this episode:[02:52] I talk about why I believe that dress code professionalism is patriarchal oppression.
[04:02] The work should speak for itself, it shouldn't matter what we wear.
[05:33] We should be called a doctor no matter what.
[06:03] If this resonates with you, I would love to hear from you.

What is burnout costing you? Beyond your mental and physical health, it's costing you so much more. I'm digging into 7 things burnout is costing you that you may not be aware of.
First, burnout is costing you time. As one of our most precious resources, we should guard it zealously. However, when you're burned out, you spend more time on tasks than necessary and the time not spent on tasks is spent buried under the weight of worry.
Burnout is also costing you your energy. When you are deep in the pit of burnout, you feel completely depleted. There's no quick fix to getting your energy back but not having it affects every aspect of your life.
Listen in to hear all the things burnout is costing you. Does this hit home? If so, reach out. Let's get you out of the pits of burnout.
"You serve, you deserve," Dr. Errin Weisman
In this episode:[02:34] Today we are discussing what your burnout is costing you!
[02:44] Burnout is costing you time.
[03:23] Burnout is costing you your energy.
[03:44] Money is another thing that burnout is costing you.
[04:55] Burnout is costing you your peace of mind.
[05:11] Relationships are another thing that burnout is costing you.
[05:30] When you are burned out, you are not operating at your optimal level of health.
[06:50] Burnout is actually costing you your protection.
