  • 297: Summer Showcase Solo - Mental Photoshopping

Are you ready for my Summer Solocast Series? I am doing some quick solocasts to get you juiced up, infused with encouragement and inspiration. I want you to go about your summer loving your life and making things better.

Mental photoshopping. Wondering what that term could possibly mean? My coach, Susan Hyatt, shared with us a story about one of her clients who was constantly mentally photoshopping herself and her life.

Have you ever thought to yourself, "I wish I was better at [insert basically anything]," and then followed that statement with, "I should be better at [insert that same thing.]"? You are by no means the only one.

But mentally photoshopping is exhausting. It is a sure way to keep yourself from achieving your dreams. Why? Because you're constantly in a cycle of thinking about the things you should be better at rather than leaning into the things you are already amazing at.

Listen in to learn how you can get out of this negative cycle of comparisonitis and start loving your life and business again.

"There is no perfect, perfect does not exist." Dr. Errin Weisman

    In this episode:

[01:29] Today we are discussing mental photoshopping.

[02:10] Here is a list of things we can all relate to.

    [03:15] There is no perfect.

[03:53] Try some of these things when you find yourself mental photoshopping.

[05:08] Flip the script and find good in the things you feel you fail at.

    [08:14] Have some fun!

  • 295: Summer Showcase Solo - Why 'Are You My Mother' Mindset Doesn't Work

Are you ready for my Summer Solocast Series? I am doing some quick solocasts to get you juiced up, infused with encouragement and inspiration. I want you to go about your summer loving your life and making things better.

You are not broken. If you've been looking around looking for that perfect guru to help you fix you so that you can find success, then this is the episode for you. Because the 'Are You My Mother' mentality doesn't work. Here's why.

Let me tell you a quick story. A friend of mine and I were hiking the other day. She's new to the whole hiking situation, so she went out and bought all the new gear and all the new clothes so that she could feel like a true outdoorswoman.

Then there was me. I have my same backpack that I've had for years and I'm wearing super comfy clothes that I've been hiking in for almost as long. No matter who has the new shiny things or the old worn in things, we both have to walk the same path.

So the next time you feel like you need someone to come in and fix you with all the new shinies, remember this episode. Instead of the new shinies, take the next best step for you and you'll be amazed at where you find yourself.

"You are not broken and you are not that far away from the things you are seeking." Dr. Errin Weisman

    In this episode:

[02:09] Today we are discussing why the 'are you my mother' doesn't work.

[03:08] Don't try to find someone to fix you, find someone to help you navigate.

[04:19] Don't seek someone else to get your answers, take your next best step.

[05:33] If you aren't walking, then you aren't getting anywhere.

[07:21] Go outside and have some fun and I'll talk to you next time.

  • 294: Summer Showcase - The 6 B's of Being A Physician Dad

Welcome to the Doctor Me First Summer Showcase where we are spotlighting the other amazing doctor podcasts that are out there. Over the next eight weeks you will get to listen to an episode from a different doctor podcast and then a solo podcast from me. This episode is from The Imperfect Dad MD podcast with Dr. Jeremy Toffle.

Let's face it: being a dad and a physician in the 21st century is completely different from what the previous generations have gone through. Time at home is just as valuable as time at work. Being a parent is more about your interactions with your kids rather than your pocketbook. However, the resources out there are scarce on how we are supposed to improve these new expectations as fathers while being a doctor.

When is the last time you read a parenting book? How about a book similar to "How to potty train your toddler?" Those books may help certain situations, however I don't think knowledge on potty training truly helps you master dealing with your screaming toddler in the grocery store line.

There is a lot more to parenting than the quick-fix titles out there. This week I dive into the 6 B's of being a physician dad and why I think these can all improve not only your life at home but also your life at work. I will also quickly discuss some changes in the podcast and what to expect in the coming months.

Starting on Fridays, there will be a quick Friday Review show which will focus on this week's topic. I may leave a quick tip for the week, closing thoughts on the topic at hand, or dive even deeper into what was discussed on Wednesday. I hope you take a listen and let me know what you think!

Interested in more topics not covered here? Check out my blog at www.imperfectdadmd.com to see if I discussed it there.

Can't find what you are looking for? Send me an email either at my website above or at [email protected] and I can try to cover it in my next show.

  • 293: Summer Showcase Solo - 5 Lies That Hustle Culture Teaches

Are you ready for my Summer Solocast Series? I am doing some quick solocasts to get you juiced up, infused with encouragement and inspiration. I want you to go about your summer loving your life and making things better.

Our American culture is built upon the idea that you have to hustle to succeed. That's so not true. Listen as I share the five lies that hustle culture teaches us and why it's important that you find your own groove.

Lie #1 - you have to get up at 5a to start your day. So not true! If you don't do well at 5a then stay your butt in bed or get up and just take some time for you. Don't work at times that aren't suitable for your energy.

Lie #2 - If you work harder, you will meet all of your goals and be successful. No! Working harder does not mean that you're working on the things that will help you find success. Working harder isn't the solution. Work smarter instead.

Lie #3 - There is a specific way to become happy and successful. I call a HUGE bullshit on this one. First of all, what makes me happy is not the same thing that will make you happy, so the idea that there is one way to find that happiness is absurd.

Listen in to hear all of the lies and why you should take time this summer to evaluate how you work, what you like, and when you feel the absolute best in your work. Understanding your body and your energy is one of the best ways to find that elusive happiness and needed success.

"Working harder does not guarantee results, but it will lead you to burn out." Dr. Errin Weisman

    In this episode:

[02:07] We are talking about the lies that hustle culture teaches and why they are BS.

[02:49] Lie #1: We are taught that you must get up at 5 am and start your day.

[06:30] Lie #2: If you work harder, you will meet all of your goals and be successful.

[07:28] Lie #3: There is a specific way to become happy and successful.

[09:24] Lie #4: If you push a little harder, it will all pay off.

[12:09] Lie #5: It's the hard that separates the winners from everyone else.

[13:42] You can do what feels fun and easy and be filled with love and joy and be successful.

    [15:19] Thank you for listening!

  • 290: Summer Showcase - Doctales with Cocktails: Stupid "things" We've Done

Welcome to the first Doctor Me First Summer Showcase episode where we are spotlighting the other amazing doctor podcasts that are out there. Over the next eight weeks you will get to listen to an episode from a different doctor podcast and then a solo podcast from me. This episode is from the BS Free MD podcast with Drs. May and Tim Hindmarsh.

This week is another Doctales with Cocktails and…..today we call BS on ourselves.

We have done some really dumb stuff over the years, and now we are laughing and sharing a FEW of the ridiculousness of our medical past.

We have experienced exploding sebaceous cysts causing "something about May", exploding speculum shrapnel and hydration on the legislature lawn.

Tim has even been paid in whiskey for weekend vasectomies! We confess we like our hillbilly medical experience, which involves some vet medicine and NASCAR driving to emergencies.

Biggest regrets: May's 9 month stint as Tim's nurse. Tim's frosty faux pas "dicksicle".

We are tasting some Crater Lake goodness today- Cheers to Crater Lake Vodka & Cran for the win.

  • 289: Summer Showcase Solo - Being Certain in Uncertainty

Are you ready for my Summer Solocast Series? I am doing some quick solocasts to get you juiced up, infused with encouragement and inspiration. I want you to go about your summer loving your life and making things better.

One way to truly fall in love with your life is to hold onto those things that are certain. There is so much in the world that we cannot control. There is so much that we don't know. There is so much that is beyond our grasp or ken.

But there is also so much that we can stand firm on.

I want you to make a list of things that you are certain of. What makes you, you? Hold onto that list and remember it as your world gets tossed around through life and doctoring.

"My name is Errin Wiesman, I'm a mother, I'm a wife, I'm a friend, I'm a daughter. I am going to be ok, at this moment I am ok." Dr. Errin Weisman

    In this episode:

[02:27] Today we are talking about uncertainty.

[03:03] Listen as I share a list of things that are certain.

[03:53] I want you to make a list of things that you are certain of.

The privileges and friction brought about by intersectionality and identifying with the LGBTQ+ community.

Using strong emotions as a catalyst for change.
