  • Episode 52 - Quincy
Episode 52 is about to go into prolific territory as Bob Sham and Akil take on the 2018 Netflix original documentary "Quincy" by Rashida Jones and Alan Hicks. We dive right in to the busy life of Quincy Jones, and man who is literally a living vessel of 70 years worth of American popular music. He's forgotten more songs than anybody has written. Big name celebrities name drop him at cocktail parties. He has his name on some of the biggest hits in the history of popular music. You, your mom, and your grandma have danced to his songs. His boner has been all over the world many times over. We're pretty sure he never goes soft. He's Quincy Motherfucking Jones and he doesn't know how to drive a car. He doesn't need to. It's our most musical episode yet. How appropriate. Keep on Doccin'®

  • Episode 51 - Hale County This Morning, This Evening
BOOM! Two surprise "In-Theater" edition drops two weeks in a row! If you believe in miracles, then this definitely qualifies.
For this one, Eldridge returns (Correction on his last name. It's actually "Arnaltovich")with Bob Sham to discuss an artful documentary that is a straightforward and sincere representation of southern black rural living in Hale County, Alabama. Bob and Eldridge went to the theater and watched "Hale County This Morning, This Evening" by the photographer/basketball coach RaMell Ross. This movie may be floating around theaters, and if you have the fortune of viewing it in that environment we would recommend it. Otherwise it should be available for online rental soon. We also connect rather personally as both hosts have connections to the type of environments represented in the film. Seems like we like it. This description isn't funny enough. Who farted? • Episode 50 - Children of the Stars
Wow! We made it to fifty episodes. Many thought that we would crash and burn around episode thirty in the thankless grind of doing a weekly podcast, but they were WRONG! I'm sure we will get to 80 episodes before we implode from the weight of crushing mental exhaustion. For this anniversary episode Bob Sham and Jonni Downer finally get into the weeds of a for real, fun time, cult movie about a group of baby boomers that believe the flying saucers will come and bring enlightenment. We watched 2012's "Children of the Stars" by Bill Perrine and we are forever changed. Did you know that all the sci-fi movies you've seen are not actually fictional stories but psychic past-life remembrances? Yeah. We've all been a myriad of things in our past lives. You were probably an evil intergalactic warlord at some point. Also Carol was probably there. Who is Carol? Oh Boy. We have a story to tell you. Dive in and Keep on Doccin'®

  • Episode 49 - Bisbee '17
Episode 49 is another "In Theaters Now" edition, and this one has been making the rounds hopefully at a theater near you. Bob Sham introduces newest Documenteer / side-piece, A2 AKA Eldridge Alan Arnoutovich. He's actually been with us for a while because he made the beats for the Documenteers theme. We will be revealing one numeral from his social security number for each of his episodes. The first number is 3. We went to the theater and saw Robert Greene's newest film "Bisbee '17". In 1917 2,000 armed townspeople escorted over 1,000 striking minors out of state at gunpoint. They were left in the desert, some by their own family. In 2017 the town of Bisbee will recreate the deportation on its 100th anniversary. Some are descendants and others are hippies from another era. All will have to go through this odd experience of re-making a town's shame. Though some don't feel it's shameful at all. "In Theaters Now" episodes are more emotional and raw. Bob and Eldridge bring it to you straight up. Step into this rail car and Keep on Doccin'®

  • Episode 48 - Hunt for the Skinwalker
Sadly, our month of CREEPTOBER winds down into the crypt as Stuart Von and Bob Sham close us out on a new documentary about the mysterious Skinwalker Ranch. We watched "Hunt for the Skinwalker" by Jeremy Corbell and now we're loaded up on crazy theories regarding Dire Wolves, Portals, and Dwarf House Chik-Fil-a's. How do we know those orbs aren't Jedis fighting in the sky? Disney owns the sky, probably. Also, why is English singer Robbie Williams hanging around? Is he causing all of this? We're guessing he's got something to do with the missing farm equipment. Blasts of Light, melodramatic narration, screen text, cattle mutilations, psychic warnings, more screen text, neckless yeti, Deez NIDS®, this one has it all. Well...all but physical evidence. There's none of that. Happy Halloween! Keep on Doccin'®

  • Episode 47 - Until the Light Takes Us
This creep-train just keeps on creepin'. This week's CREEPTOBER edition documentary is one that hosts Ginger and Bob have discussed personally many times over bags of Halloween candy. The early days of Norwegian Black Metal and all of its elitist, corpse-painted, glory is covered in Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell's "Until the Light Takes Us". In eighties and nineties Norway some dudes who took themselves way too seriously put on some black and white face-paint and played metal into some tin cans. Then churches started burning. Then people got murdered. One dude even murdered himself. A complicated and often problematic scene that was both very creative and very stupid. It's the metal your hometown pastor warned you about. Though your pastor probably couldn't tell you the difference between "Darkthrone" and "Papa Roach". I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day. Keep on Doccin'®

  • Episode 46 - 30 for 30: Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks
It's CREEPTOBER and the pants-pissing fear keeps on truckin' in what might be the scariest CREEPTOBER documentary yet...if you're a Knicks fan like co-host/New Yorker Drew. Bob and Drew knock down another 30 for 30 in the humorous Dan Klores documentary "Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks". Humorous to Bob anyway. By the end of this episode Drew was in fetal position. Traumatized by those deep Reggie Miller threes. The frustrations of John Starks. The tears of Patrick Ewing. The cries of classic 90's Knick, Spike Lee. Drew might tell it differently, but he had to be held throughout this tale of early 90's basketball involving this contentious eastern rivalry. You wanted shock and fear in your favorite documentary themed podcast? Well you fucking got it. Keep on Doccin'®

  • Episode 45 - Beware the Slenderman
The throes of CREEPTOBER start to ramp up as Bob and Angela tell a very modern true crime story involving a weird internet meme turned twisted folklore. We watched the 2016 HBO original documentary "Beware the Slenderman" by Irene Taylor Brodsky. Two young girls make an odd plan to stab their friend as a sacrifice to Slenderman so they can go live with him in his mansion in the center of a national park that's hundreds of miles away. Maybe you've heard of Slenderman. Tall. Skinny. Faceless. Formal Goth Dress. Sometimes has tentacles. Likes kids. Not real. Needless to say there's some mental health issues involved. Angela and Bob size it up and also introduce the show's VERY FIRST AD! We have a revolutionary advertising strategy that you have to hear to believe and a MAJOR company is involved. Then you'll probably rip it off, because it's just that brilliant. We're brilliant because we came up with it. I can't wait to soak in all that money. Face first into dollars like Scrooge McDuck. Getting coins in our crevices. Enjoy this episode about children stabbing. Keep on Doccin'®.

  • Episode 44 - Fahrenheit 11/9
SURPRISE! We're really getting into these "In Theaters Now" episodes. We like to surprise you with these. Not unlike waking up to find your house toilet-papered. We basically toilet-papered your phone, or computer, or zune or whatever you listen to us on. A classic prank that fits right into CREEPTOBER, because we got a movie with plenty of FEAR in it. We got extra Akil this week because we went to a very empty theater recently to watch Michael Moore's new documentary "Fahrenheit 11/9". By past Michael Moore standards (Fahrenheit 9/11 is the highest grossing doc of all time) it's considered a flop, but he's had floppier. Regardless, Akil and Bob get political in what might be one of the rawest Documenteers episodes yet. Will Michael Moore's new film get people motivated, or will it bounce against the walls of an echo chamber? It's definitely doing the latter, but this film might reveal the motivations coming from somewhere else. We were surprised at certain approaches in the film, and we certainly vented our own frustrations in this episode. So join us down this rabbit hole as we re-live those wonderful times in late 2016 and discuss how it's been going since. Maybe you haven't noticed. We also fart in it. Keep on Doccin'®

  • Episode 43 - Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy
We just couldn't wait. October is here and on the Documenteers that means creepy movies all CREEPTOBER long. In a petty act of revenge for being tricked into listening to 19 versions of the song "I Think We're Alone Now" (Episode 36), Akil's selection for our first Creeptober doc was a four-damn-hour long retrospective on the history of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Akil and Bob rented and marathoned 2010's "Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy" by Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch. The results are surprisingly fun in our longest Documenteers episode yet. It's all about the cult of Wes Craven's Freddy Krueger and the weirdos that carried out his legacy. Crazy shit can happen when you make eight movies starring a knife fingered burnt up pedophile in a striped sweater. Special appearance by Johnny Depp and his alcoholism. We wish nothing but health and happiness for Johnny. Please don't hit women. Keep on Doccin'.
