Documenteers: The Documentary Podcast episodes

  • Episode 32 - The Decline of Western Civilization
Our 32nd episode starts our three part saga on one of the most iconic and listener-requested documentary series ever. This week Bob Sham and Ginger discuss none other than the Penelope Spheeris 1981 classic LA punk doc "The Decline of Western Civilization". The Germs! X! Fear! Black Flag! Fist fights! Anarchy! Pat Smear's thoughts on women! The cuddly racist Eugene who is now apparently embarrassed by everything he said in this film! Dead painters and the women who hate them! All play a role in this chaotic Los Angeles scene that crashed, burned, and still holds potent influence to this day! Also, Bob makes more references to NU-Metal! Yay! This underground classic is relatively easy to find. I'm sure Penelope would appreciate your rental. There is a handsome box-set out there with all the Decline films plus some illuminating behind the scenes info. You know it. You love it. Get into pogo position. Try not to hurt anybody. Or y'know...fuck it. Maybe hurt somebody. Above all else...Keep on Doccin®!!!!!

  • Episode 31 - Won't You Be My Neighbor?
Hello, neighbor. So glad you could join us for this very special episode 31 of the Documenteers. One second, i'm just gonna change out of this blazer and into a cardigan. ........................................... There. That's better. This episode is very special because Bob Sham and Angela talk about a documentary that is in the theaters. It's the Mister Rogers biographical film "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" by Academy Award winning director Morgan Neville. Everyone seems to like it. If you're new to the podcast be warned that Bob says terrible bad words all the time, and it's not a very good way to make nice friends. But you know what? Bob is very special because there's nobody out there quite like Bob. Angela is also special because there's nobody out there quite like Angela. They might be a little strange, but they are nice people talking about a nice movie that you should go see. Everyone is special in their own unique way. Except that one person. It's rude to name names. You know who you are. Now i'm being told to say "Keep on Doccin'®". Is that a curse word?
    Graciously Yours,
    Ghost Fred Rogers

  • Episode 30 - 30 for 30: The Legend of Jimmy the Greek
Heya, kid. (lights cigar) I see ya like podcasts. (blows smoke in your face) Good. I got a Documenteers episode for you. (wipes meat grease onto cheap white blazer) It's one a those ESPN 30 for 30 movies that Bob Sham does with Drew and it's about the very handsome, and very intelligent gambler/sportscaster Jimmy Snyder. (farts. drools.) We're talkin' about the Fritz Mitchell film "The Legend of Jimmy the Greek" and it's full of dripping narration, degenerate gambling, idiotic race lecturing, horse drooling, Football, bad fathering, and irrational acts fitting to a person who is often described by other degenerates as "A Legend". (puts cigar out on tongue) Dive into this den of filth. The sweat smells good down here.
We're gonna make some docu-dollars tonight. Docu-dollars coming soon to the crypto-currency landscape. Take care of your kids and Keep on Doccin®

  • Episode 28 - The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?
Look! Up in the Sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...it's...crashing and burning...oh god... Episode 28 is here and Bob Sham and Akil sort through a true Hollywood tale in John Schnepp's Kickstarter co-funded documentary "The Death of 'Superman Lives': What Happened?" Yes, that is the actual title. Once upon a time hair-dresser/Hollywood producer John Peters wanted to make a Superman movie. Kevin Smith wrote for it. Tim Burton was going to direct it. Nicholas Cage was going to star in it. A thousand concept artists drew for it. Superman was going to maybe not fly in it. Also...it was gonna have a giant spider. Then it all fell apart. Would this have been a giant success, or would it have been a Krypton level disaster? Listen and learn, docu-dorks.

  • Episode 26 - Evil Genius
For the 26th episode we break new ground as Bob Sham and Angela take on their first docuseries for the podcast! BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT! This week we discuss the Netflix original documentary series “Evil Genius” directed by Barbara Schroeder and produced by Trey Borzillieri. One day in Eerie, Pennsylvania a pizza delivery man named Brian Wells walked into the PNC bank with a bomb around his neck holding a note requesting a large sum of money. What happened? How? Why? Who? Is it a genius plot, or a bat-shit scheme? Maybe both? Also, where do babies come from? Seriously, we want to know. E-mail us the answer at [email protected]. Also, why are there rolls of napkins by every toilet? Are people eating dinner in the bathroom? Seems wasteful. Keep on Doccin®

  • Episode 25 - American Movie
If this episode 25 was a 90's comic book, it would have a card stock cover and a hologram on it. But it's not a 90's comic book. It's a podcast. It's a podcast about documentaries, and this episode is like putting on a comfy pair of slippers. Bob Sham and Stuart Von discuss the 1999 Chris Smith (Welcome Back, Kotter...i mean, Chris)classic documentary "American Movie". A movie about a man in northwest Minneapolis, his dream to make the great American film, and the memorable people in and around his life. Dreams live on through our homage to this film and so it begins our journey to become the 5th most popular movie themed podcast on Apple Podcasts. Give us five stars and a review and down the road when we stand over the jeering scowls of our doubters, i'll only have one question to ask you...red or white wine?

  • Episode 24 - 30 for 30: Without Bias
Drew and Bob hop aboard episode 24 and continue their 30 for 30 journey. If hot talk of college basketball from two months ago doesn't get your fancy tickled, then prepare your heart and mind for the tragic tale of Len Bias. A kid many say is the greatest who never played professionally. Kirk Fraser's ESPN 30 for 30 "Without Bias" tells of how the death of one young man can rock a community to its core. Also I accidentally called Kirk Fraser "Ken", so get excited and enjoy this text version of "Bobby's Boners®". Go Terrapins!

  • Episode 23 - Shy Boys: IRL
It's 23 and me...and you...and this episode is very genetically white. The word "Incel" (involuntary celibate) is now known by everyone from your college roommate to your dad for all the worst reasons. Bob and Jonni break down the sad scene in the 2011 short documentary "Shy Boys: IRL" by Sara Gardephe. Sara got in on the terminology before some bottled up psychos stabbed, shot, and ran over innocent people and her film is available to watch for free on Vimeo and Youtube. Are all incels one bad day away from a murderous rampage, or is shit more complicated than that? Last episode was about race, this is about masculinity. We got a lot of opinions with no credibility to back them up. It's all a part of our Documenteers promise to you. Keep on not fuckin'.
