Did you know teaching your dog impulse control is an important life skill that can help keep them safe and curb unwanted behaviors like darting out of doorways or jumping on people. Impulse control means teaching your dog to wait for permission before engaging in a specific activity. So, today we are talking about impulse control and games for your dog.
Join host Michele Forto, the lead trainer of Alaska Dog Works. Did you know training for your dog's attention teaches them to be a good student? In class, the best student sits quietly, content to wait for the teacher's instructions. It is much easier for an owner to teach a dog everything else once they set this foundation in place. Today we are talking about keeping your dog's attention.

Well… summer is supposed to be in full swing. I don't know about where you live but up here in Alaska it is still cold and rainy almost every day. That doesn't stop us hardy dog owners. We still get out and do group classes in the park on Saturdays and many of us are hitting the hiking trails with the bear spray firmly in hand. Those buggers are awake and roaming around.
On today's show we are going to talk about dog hiking groups and should you consider one. In fact, we have one here and it is a part of our Adventure Dog Club. You can head over to our website, Alaska dog works (dot) com, and check it out. On this episode, we give you tips on what to look for when researching dog hiking clubs in your area, what questions to ask, what to avoid, and how to prepare your dog for the hikes.
