  • Nerds, White Chicks, and Adult Diapers

Stacy starts the show with a disclaimer about Carmex and a snack. It turns out Carmex is NOT addictive, it’s the cycle of dehydration and reapplication. What is addictive is Nerd Clusters and Eric just doesn’t get it. Clearly, he has not tried the crun-chewy concoction beloved by ADHDers and middle-aged women! Speaking of crun-chewy, Gertie is hating her new low-fat diet, and her resilience proves that like Chumba Wumba, she gets knocked down, but she gets up again. Eric has a type, roadside vacuums that are missing parts that can be replaced with the magic that is 3D printing – speaking of nerds! Thankfully with the money he saved on the vacuum he could afford to go see Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore? Nothing like nickel and diming your joy. Meanwhile, in her quest to make friends, Stacy went to a Sip & Putt event her apartment building hosted and found out the hard way how strong it was which may have improved her short game! Stacy watched two movies for her CBS this week, Straight Talk with Dolly Parton and James Wodds and White Chicks with the Wayans brothers. The first was sadly just meh and the second is meh if you’re over the age of 45. Eric prepared for a special Seattle Symphony event featuring the music of Ennio Morricone by watching A Fist Full of Dollars with Clint Eastwood; a movie where Clint found his steely-eyed, loner, big screen identity and spaghetti westerns found their footing in Hollywood. Who knew there’s a whole genre of western movies helmed by Italian directors! As for holding it versus using the restroom on a plane, it all depends on your age and stage. Just don’t follow the trend of wearing adult diapers to a concert so you don’t need a bathroom break! • Owala, Aquafina, and Xenia

Remember Carmex? Stacy and Eric do and Stacy may have been addicted. The debate between “Is Pepsi ok?” and Diet Coke arises (can you tell who writes the show description by their names?). In considering what they’d “heist,” Brad Pitt’s affinity for constantly eating in the Ocean’s 11 movie leads to a conversation about Aquafina and the Oceanettes. Eric’s show at the Valley of course went well and when he heard Apple music is building a music venue at the Battersea Power Station naturally, they get thinking about an opening gig lineup. Eric confused an act of kindness for a scam, discussed his skincare routine, and shared Getie has pancreatitis which means no more bacon. Whereas Stacy has been wearing dresses, painting, and declaring war on art. For this episode’s CBS, Stacy watched From Here to Eternity while Eric continued his quest to experience the James Bond movies in order by watching GoldenEye with Pierce Brosnan, his favorite part might be the campy repartee between Bond and his tech guy. In watching The Thomas Crown Affair, he confirms that maybe Pierce is just a meh actor but acknowledges Rene Russo is stunning. As for working from home versus the office, it boils down to workplaces taking a page from the movie 9 to 5. • Breakfast, Drag, and Radiators

Once again Stacy is in a good mood (read talkative). She’s on the heels of another trip and Eric is in his usual bemused with a dash of salty mood. Stacy shares stories about her stay at The Brewster House in Freeport, Maine (home to L.L. Bean) and the really freaking good breakfasts made by Dave! Somehow the conversation devolves into topics from the Gideon Bible and Rocky Raccoon to the mattress/pillow app and having luggage scales at every hotel/motel/b&b for souvenir happy travelers. Inside of focusing on these potential Shark Tank-worthy endevors, Eric and Battersea have practiced and are ready for their show at The Valley in Tacoma where they’re sharing the stage with The Honey Bee Breakfast and The Lame-O-Sexuals. Poor Eric tried to promote it but the Facebook AI bots kept flagging the ad…interesting since top AI execs are flagging AI in general – hmm. The exciting news is DAMTT got an email from listener Wes from PETA who was tickled by Eric using one of their animal-friendly phrases!! A listener and fun SWAG, yes please! For their CBS, Stacy went back in time a bit first to the early 80’s with Absence of Malice with a dreamy Paul Newman and Sally Field. A smart movie a la All the President’s Men with a premise about accuracy versus truth in journalism; a topic that still resonates today. Her second choice was To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar with Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo, a surprisingly poignant story about drag queens and their unexpected and at first unwelcome stop in middle America. Eric also watched two movies, David Lynch’s first movie from 1977, Eraserhead and packed-to-the-rafters with new (then) new talent, The Outsiders. Eric was surprised by how much he liked the former and by how much more he hoped for from the latter. As for new games, Eric showed how hip he is by suggesting chess and Stacy recommended Hitster because she IS hip! • Weddings, Toy Boats, Killer Plants, Grogu and Ren Faires

In this episode of Don't Ask Me to Talk, Eric and Stacy swap Labor Day weekend stories that range from heroic (not really) to hilariously relatable. Eric recounts rescuing a stranded remote-controlled boat during a kayaking adventure on Commencement Bay, while Stacy shares the chaos of preparing for an East Coast wedding, including an unexpected deep dive into men's fashion and the eternal struggle of shopping with a spouse. Along the way, they compare airplane seat preferences, celebrate regional quirks of New England, explore how travel exposes us to cultural blind spots, and review everything from The Mandalorian and Grogu to Little Shop of Horrors and the Seattle-set film Tow. Finally, the Wheel of Topics serves up a debate between Civil War reenactments and Renaissance Faires, leading to a lively discussion about niche hobbies, historical obsessions, and why some people are willing to spend a weekend dressed in period costumes. Next time: best new game we've learned.

  • #ladiesbeshoppingforpeace, Comfort Dolly, and Scary Jamie

Stacys in a good mood since her stomach bug passed and pizza from Leo’s in San Antonio may have been the cure! Shopping helped too, which led her to pose an important question to Eric. What is the guy’s version of candles and throw pillows and/or shoes and handbags? Men not agreeing on “a thing” may be why we don’t have world peace. Because Eric’s bum was still numb from kayaking, he and “the girlfriend” went biking instead which while it was hard getting started, he enjoyed his cushioned seat. Despite their varied schedules, Eric and bandmates from Battersea are preparing for another gig at The Valley in Tacoma on September 19th, 2026. Naturally, Stacy had excellent ideas to help prep, which he appreciated greatly. He would appreciate her help when his mother and aunt visit, but Stacy is enjoying watching him squirm. For their CBS, they independently watched a Dolly Parton movie (9 to 5 for Eric and Steel Magnolias for Stacy) to pay respect to a legend! And then each went rogue, Eric with the original Halloween and Stacy with High Fidelity. Eric was surprised at how much he enjoyed Halloween after building it up as a kid. Stacy enjoyed High Fidelity for the soundtrack, cast chock full of future stars and sheer angst. Eric pointed out that when he and his friends are music dorks that intellectualize music there isn’t nearly the same response…no offense, they’re not John Cusack in 2000. As for snow versus leaves, one’s fun to play with while the other is fun to play in…neither is fun to clean! • Apples, Murder, and Life on Earth

Was it all the apples, eating a salad, or something else? Stacy starts the episode off with a *toot* once again proving she has no issues with TMI unfortunately for Eric and listeners. Eric and “the gf” went kayaking a second time beating their previous record although Eric did share, he suffered from numb bum after which led to yet another brilliant innovation/sponsor idea. Stacy still continues to work on a tagline (no one asked for) for Duck Duck Go and currently in first is Eric’s suggestion of Just Duckit which leads to a hilariously awkward story about his 8yo nephew’s “Just Do Me” sweatshirt. The two pay homage to recently deceased Dolly Parton and Tim Curry, which Stacy feels all but confirms the world is headed for hell. For their CBS this week Stacy and Eric have an unplanned switched-at-birth moment as Stacy watches another Coen brother’s movie and Eric watches a Pixar movie for children. Not shocking is that after Stacy finally watched Fargo (her dad’s fav movie), she thought it was awesome, if weird. Even less shocking is Eric finding something to nitpick about after watching Wall-E. If Stacy can take the Coen brothers movie as face value, why can’t Eric take Wall-E being propelled at light speed through space while holding onto essentially a rocket and NOT melting at face value?! Also, is Wall-E the love child of Charlie Chaplin and Johnny 5 from Short Circuit? Eric is also still watching James Gandalfini go to therapy on the Sopranos and like therapy, it’s really growing on him. As for the ideal shower length, depends on who you ask and whether you’re at The Blue Lagoon in Iceland (but the general recommendation is 8 minutes). • Failure to Fly, Dudeism, and the Need for More High-Hat

Considering Eric is “the voice,” of the show, he sure did struggle to talk in the beginning of the episode. If he could get his ish together maybe SeaTac would hire him to make announcements like Rick Rizz, the “voice of Mariner’s radio.” In other news out of Tacoma, the podcast pals face off (kind of) in the Little League World Series as the Soundview team from Tacoma face off against the team from Boerne, TX. Eric shares stories about kayaking, his parking validation anxieties, and rethinking the gift of a Kenmore flight to celebrate his dad’s birthday – he tries to look on the bright side which is him with no teeth post plane crash. Stacy is less anxious if only because she’s on the road again, this time back to Texas for the foreseeable future. For their CBS, Stacy studies the ways of Dudeism by watching The Big Lebowski. Are Dudeism and Taoism the same? Is the Dude just Pooh with pants on? Also, it was funny and quirky like all Coen brother movies. Which coincidentally Eric also watched one of, he saw Miller’s Crossing; a glacially paced movie about small-town Irish gangsters that needed more high-hat. He also watched The Night of the Hunter; released in 1955, Eric was very impressed with the acting, cinematography and storyline which kept him in suspense. They don’t make ’m like they used to! As for their great debate, there was none as the topic was hangover cures. Ideally, don’t drink. Realistically, drink water before, during and after a night of drinking too much (plus other suggestions). • Dancing on the Ceiling, Oh Yeah!

It was a quiet week for podcast pals Stacy and Eric. Stacy entertained guests at Veranda Beach and even with smoke and ash in the air (happy birthday Smokey the Bear) mahjong happens. Speaking of addictions, Stacy discusses her 5-day addiction to the phone game Meowduku (the Tacoma cat boat story!?), her love for Tootsie Pops (Eric crunched them like the owl), and breaking down to buy more mahjong tiles (it was inevitable). Eric reminisces about watching professional kite flyers (synchronized?!) and seeing Comedy Bang Bang (very hawt). In discussing their CBS, Eric introduces Stacy and listeners to Duck Duck Go (a search engine) which needs a verb…duckit, goosed, gone? Stacy went old school watching Royal Wedding with her girlhood crush Fred Astaire while Eric went “just in theaters” with The Odyssey and Spiderman: Brand New Day. With at least three of the stars overlapping, it was a banner movie-going experience bringing back an old-school epic popcorn blockbuster and the grounded lore of Spiderman, even if the AI assistant was annoying. As for their top topic of the week, Stacy took a more hypothetical approach in her certainty that The Kool Aid Man would win, while Eric was practical and declared a knockout for The Michelin Man – and it’s ok that Eric is often wrong in these debates. • Peninsulas, Mutton Busting, and Squeakquels

After a break of a couple of weeks, podcast pals Stacy and Eric reunite and pick up where they left off – debating the utensil MVP. During his time off, Eric went to the Ibiza of Washington, also known as Point Roberts; an international hotspot (not) where even Gertie dipped a paw in the water! He and “the girlfriend” also went to Long Beach, which was long on fun, but short on pillows. Does DAMTT need to create an app for rating beds and pillows? While Eric stayed on the west coast, Stacy traveled back to her roots on the east coast going from Pennsylvania to Rhode Island and back again with a side quest to San Antonio. Now back in Veranda Beach, Stacy is seeing firsthand the effects of the wildfire’s smoke and destruction. For Stacy’s CBS she went to her first rodeo – literally! The best part was a toss-up between little kids in their boots and hats and older men in their boots and hats giving off Sam Elliot vibes. Eric’s CBS was all about sequels, specifically Poltergeist 2 (they’re back!) and Jaws 2 (son of Jaws?). Both were just okay and left both Eric and Stacy wondering why Hollywood always goes for the money grab versus the quality storytelling…oh yeah, of course. As for the Hot Topic of the episode, whether to use a top sheet, it’s more of a therapy and problem-solving session for Stacy.
