  • Moses Runs Away | Ep. 047
God’s appointed leader of the Israelites, Moses, fled into the wilderness after killing an Egyptian man. He was being prepared by God to step in and deliver His people the Israelites from Egypt, from their slavery, and from their groaning.

Our Bible Reading is from Exodus 2:11-25.

God saw the people of Israel - and God knew.Exodus 2:25

    An Omniscient Presence

God knows everything and He sees everything too! God saw Moses when he killed the Egyptian. God saw his people when they were trapped in slavery. And God sees you too, every second of every day. Moses ran away from what he’d done, scared for his life! God knew the plans He had for Moses, and used this experience to show Moses that he alone couldn’t save people. God saw the pain His people were in and He had an amazing plan to save them. And He knows everything about you and has an amazing plan for you too. We can never hide from God, nor should we want to.

  • Moses Is Born | Ep. 046
God's people were trapped in slavery by the Egyptians. Pharaoh had commanded the Egyptians to kill all the Hebrew baby boys, so God’s people started hiding their newborn babies to keep them safe. One mother carefully wove a basket for her son and sent him down the Nile River, hoping he would be taken care of. Help came in the most unlikely of people - Pharaoh's daughter! From baby boys being thrown into the river to the baby boy floating on top of the river, God sent a savior to His people.

Our Bible reading is from Exodus 2:1-10.

"She named him Moses, because she said, I drew him out of the water."Exodus 2:1-10

    A Vessel of Safety

Just like the ark carried Noah, his family and the animals to safety, a basket carried Moses to safety too! His mother loved him so much, and she took great care to make sure this basket was made with strong reeds and sealed to keep the water out. Even though it may have seemed like the baby was left all alone, God’s plan to save His people was taking shape and in the safety of the basket, Moses floated towards protection.

  • What’s Happening in Egypt? | Ep. 045
In the beginning of Exodus, we have a new king in Egypt. It’s many years later after Joseph’s death, and this new Pharaoh didn’t know about Joseph. He forgot about what Joseph had done for Egypt. And the Israelites increased in number They got to be so many that the new Pharaoh was worried that the Egyptians would be taken over by the Israelites. They enslaved the Hebrews and the Egyptians were commanded to kill all the newborn baby boys. They had forgotten their history, but God had not forgotten about his people!

Our Bible reading is from Exodus 1:1-22.

"Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted."Psalm 10:12

    Our History

Over the years, the Egyptians forgot their history. It’s a dangerous thing to forget your past. When we forget our history, we forget who we are and where we came from. We can’t learn from our mistakes and past actions if we forget what’s happened. That’s why we read the Bible and remember what God has said and done.

  • God Brings Peace In Egypt | Ep. 044
We have made it all the way through our Journey through Genesis. Joseph's family is now settled in the land of Goshen and Israel is nearing the end of his life. He blesses his sons, as well as Joseph's two eldest sons. God promises the people of Israel will not live in Egypt forever, but will be brought back to the Promised Land. It’s peace in Egypt, and peace among God’s people, Israel.

Our Bible Reading this week comes from selected verses from Genesis 48-50.

"You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good."Genesis 50:20

    Peace Through Faith

At the end of Genesis, everyone was at PEACE with each other. The Hebrews were living peacefully in the land of Egypt, Pharaoh was happy to have Joseph and his family close by, and Joseph and his brothers were at peace with one another. God worked through the sin of man to bring about peace. God also gives us, His children peace, through faith in His Son, Jesus.

  • Joseph Takes Care of His Family | Ep. 043
Joseph is reunited with his brothers after many years apart. He sends his brothers back to Canaan to bring back his father and the rest of their family. The famine is so bad that Joseph will now take care of his family in Goshen, the land given to them by Pharaoh.

    Bible Reading

Our Bible reading is from Genesis 45:13-46:7. We read how Joseph provided provisions to bring his father and family back to Egypt. God appeared to Israel again in a dream, telling him that He would be with Jacob and his descendents as they moved into Egypt.

“I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again.”Genesis 46:4

    Reconciled to God

Reconciled means to restore in friendship, or if we look at the Greek origin, it comes from a word group that means “to change”. Joseph’s brothers truly did change, and as it turned out, Joseph ended up taking care of his entire family! Through Jesus’ death, we are reconciled to God. His Love is poured out on us and we become His children, as He takes our sins away and forgives us.

  • Joseph Tests His Brothers | Ep. 042
Joseph's brothers came to Egypt during the second year of the predicted famine for grain. They didn't recognize Joseph, and Joseph decided to test his brothers to see if they had changed hearts from when he last saw them. The guilt of their past actions towards their brother weighed heavily on the 12 brothers, and they took responsibility of their past actions before God.

    Bibe Reading

Our Bible reading is from chapters 42 and 45 of Genesis. These chapters outline the events that took place as Joseph tested his brothers to determmine if they had repented from their actions towards him.

"God has found out the guilt of your servants."Genesis 44:16

    Justified, Not Guilty

Our sin makes us guilty before God and each other. When we take responsibility of our sin and acknowledge our sinfulness, we can say “I’m sorry” and truly mean it, asking God and others for forgiveness.

  • Joseph and The Dreamers | Ep. 041
Joseph remained faithful to God, despite all the hardships he faced in Egypt. Things looked pretty bleak for him, getting thrown into prison and all, but God never left him. God worked through Joseph to be able to interpret the dreams that He sent to the prisoners and Pharoah, and Joseph made sure that Pharaoh knew it was God who gave him the ability to interpret dreams.

    Bible Reading

Our Bible reading is taken from Genesis 40 and 41, as we read about Joseph interpreting the dreams of the cupbearer, baker, and Pharaoh.

"For those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."Romans 8:28

    You Are Not Forgotten

Joseph did something absolutely awesome! He interpreted two dreams through God and they came true! But then, he was forgotten. He was left in prison for 2 more whole years. Sometimes it can seem like we are forgotten by others, but God sees and remembers all that we do when we help others, even if others don’t see it and remember it.

  • A Slave In Egypt: Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife | Ep. 040
Joseph is sold as a slave to Potiphar in Egypt, but God remains faithful and is with him. Joseph becomes successful in everything he does, and Potiphar sees this and puts his trustworthy servant in charge of almost everything in his household. But Satan uses the seductive nature of sin to try and get faithful Joseph to turn his back on God. Does Joseph give in to temptation?

    Bible Reading

Our Bible reading is from Genesis 39:1-23. We summarize the verses with Potiphar's wife propositioning Joseph for the benefit of our younger listeners.

"But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love."Genesis 39:21a

    Saying "No" to Temptation

We face a lot of temptations in life. Sometimes they are small and sometimes they might have big consequences. It’s important for us to be able to resist temptation, or in other words, not give in to it.

  • Joseph Is Sold Into Slavery | Ep. 039
Joseph's brothers despised and hated him. When the opportunity presented itself, they eagerly plotted to kill Joseph. They ended up throwing him into a pit, and then selling Joseph into slavery for 20 silver shekels. Though his brothers meant evil against him, God meant it for good. God is working behind the scenes to bring about His plan to save millions of people from death.

    Bible Reading

Our Bible reading is from Genesis 37:12-35 and we read the story of how Joseph's brothers betrayed him and sold him into slavery.

"And the patriarchs, jealous of Joseph, sold him into Egypt, but God was with him."Acts 7:9

    What Are We Slaves To?

In each of our lives, we choose to either obey God and follow Him, or we choose to allow sin to control us. Paul (in Romans 6:17-18) uses the example of being slaves to help us understand what happens when we choose to follow either God or sin. We are born sinful and because of that, we become slaves to sin. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He has set us free from sin. We are no longer slaves to sin, but rather slaves to righteousness – which means that we willingly follow Jesus and His teachings, and we choose to obey God.

  • Joseph and His Jealous Brothers | Ep. 038
Joseph and his jealous brothers didn't have the best of relationships! Their father Israel loved Joseph more than all of his other sons, and favored him above all the others. Joseph was a bit of an arrogant teenager, which didn't help the family dynamics at all. Joseph's jealous brothers despised and hated him, especially after Joseph had two dreams that foretold the future.

    Bible Reading

Our Bible reading is from Genesis 37:1-11 and we learn about the relationships between Israel, Joseph, and his brothers. There was a lot of hatred, bitterness, and jealousy that existed between the brothers.

"A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot."Proverbs 14:30

    Jealousy vs. Tranquility

Joseph's brothers could have chosen to treat him with love instead of being jealous and hateful. Jealousy makes you feel angry and mad, and it becomes very hard to see all the blessings that God gives you. If we focus on what we have been given, instead of what we don't have, we will be filled with peace and joy.
