  • 120: I AM... PROGRESS!

Ending 2020 and at 36 years old, Sean found himself at a loss. He felt like he had tried everything and that the person he had become and all the negativity he felt was someone else's fault. Depressing thoughts and negativity seemed to be getting worse and worse and the scale kept climbing. At 320lbs, Sean had enough. Starting 2021, Sean decided to try some things he had never done before in an effort to start feeling better, to start being more positive, and to start living a better life.

Where did he even get started?
Sean decided he didn't like the relationship he had with alcohol and made an effort to take a break. This was the beginning of change and the start of positive progress. Sean has now passed his 3rd year sober, has lost 100lbs, has become more positive and has a completely new mindset. This all started with allowing himself to do something he had never done before to challenge who he thought he was.

As a journalist, corporate writer and author, Max Friedman has spent his working life discovering and writing hundreds of stories about other people. With Painful Joy: A Holocaust Family Memoir, he turned his writing to a subject he had avoided for most of his life — his own family history. Hans E. Hageman grew up in Harlem, New York's tenements and housing projects, finally settling in "Exodus House," a groundbreaking residential drug treatment community founded by his father. His upbringing instilled in him early lessons of courage and faith in human potential.

After studying at Princeton University and Columbia Law School, Hans practiced law as a prosecutor, as chief counsel to a U.S. Senate subcommittee, and as a public defender before dedicating his career to youth development and education. He also co-founded a girls' school in Lucknow, India for lower caste students.
Hans has led nonprofits domestically and in Africa focused on nurturing creativity and resilience in underserved youth populations. Before moving to Mississippi, he served as Executive Director of Land to Learn, establishing vegetable gardening and breathwork programs for teen boys incarcerated in a maximum-security prison for extremely violent crimes.

He is a 2023 national education award Yass Prize semifinalist for his current role as Executive Director of the Tutwiler Community Education Center in the Mississippi Delta. • 111: I AM... CLIMBING MOUNTAINS!
Jeff Higgins grew up in the Cincinnati area. On April 6, 1983 in the Milford High School cafeteria he met Shelly and they built a wonderful life together. They were married and had three wonderful daughters who grew up and started families of their own. Today seven grandchildren bring Shelly and Jeff endless joy. (There is something special about grandchildren.)
Jeff has spent his working life almost entirely in the industry of making seasonings for foods like potato chips, meats, and dips. You have probably eaten something he has been a part of creating. In 2002 Jeff boot strapped his own company and it has been a twenty-year overnight success story.
Living a life filled with purpose seems to have always been a part of Jeff’s DNA since he was eleven. Together with Shelly they enjoy making meaning a part of their endeavors. They invested over twenty years supporting and running youth programs. They have served the hungry in their community, in the US, and internationally. In 2016 Jeff summited Mount Rainier and in the process raised over $25,000.00 to build a school for special needs children in rural Guatemala. Jeff and Shelly try to employ a motto they have: “If you are going to do something big, attach it to something bigger.” That is why the purpose statement for their company is “Serve People”.
Today Jeff enjoys talking to audiences about his experiences in an effort to help people lead better, more fulfilling lives.
