Down to Herf Podcast

This week we kick things off with review of the Powstanie War Bear 2025, breaking down what’s changed in this year’s rendition and how it stacks up to previous releases.

From there, we drift into the strange “dead zone” of the calendar between Christmas and New Year’s—talking end-of-year burnout, the chaos of Western New York weather, and the bizarre lull where time doesn’t feel real. The conversation then turns serious as we touch on the Minnesota daycare fraud scandal before shifting gears to wrap up the Down to Herf Fantasy Football League Championship and breaking down the latest NFL Week 17 slate.

Patrol Gone Wild delivers, featuring a mugger who picked the absolute wrong target, a wild Detroit police chase involving an armed carjacker, and Sheriff Grady Judd explaining—very clearly—why soliciting prostitutes is probably not a great life choice.

Caleb’s News rounds things out with cigar release announcements from Chi-Molly and OM Cigars, and on the bourbon front, a brand takes home the crown for Best Bourbon of 2025.

This week we reviewed the Karatoba from Oz Family Cigars, while reflecting on just how chaotic the holiday season has become. The conversation drifts into a quick rundown of the Week 16 NFL slate before wrapping the opening segment with a Down to Herf gift exchange that delivers exactly what you’d expect from the boys.

Patrol Gone Wild takes a turn straight out of a movie script this week, starting with a simple shoplifting call that escalates into a gun-related incident. Things only get stranger with a reported “murder” that isn’t what it first appears to be, followed by the arrest of a real-life Grinch just in time for the holidays.

Caleb’s News closes out Episode 200 with cigar release announcements from Ferio Tego and Bocock Bros. On the whiskey side, James B. Beam announces a production slowdown, sparking conversation about what that could mean for availability and the broader bourbon market as the new year approaches.

We’re joined by Mo Maali of Patina Cigars for a wide-ranging interview that starts with cigars and quickly goes off the rails—in the best way possible. We dive into Patina’s recently released Red Pill cigar, breaking down the blend, the concept behind the project, and the messaging that sparked it all. What begins as a cigar review turns into a full rabbit-hole conversation touching on culture, perspective, and the need for change.

Patrol Gone Wild delivers chaos as usual, featuring a former UFC fighter tied to a massive drug bust, a wild and unfortunate headline involving actor Rob Reiner, and yet another reminder that criminals still don’t understand you cannot, in fact, outrun a helicopter.

Caleb’s News rounds things out with new release announcements from Viaje and Principle Cigars, while the whiskey segment looks at Garrison Brothers pushing the limits with the drop of a straight hazmat bottle.

This episode of the Down to Herf is a heavy hitter as we light up the Opus X 25th Anniversary and break down whether this legendary cigar still earns its crown. We dive into the history of the Opus X brand, how it changed the cigar world, and what makes the 25th Anniversary release so special. From there, we jump into the Bills’ big win over the Bengals, what it means moving forward, and wrap it all up by talking through that soul-crushing holiday and end-of-year burnout everyone is feeling right now.

This week’s Patrol Gone Wild is absolute chaos featuring a Baltimore firefighter arrested for allegedly pleasing himself in public places you truly wouldn’t believe, a wild fight in Detroit that somehow escalates into a full-blown car theft, and a foot pursuit that ends with a vinyl fence giving its life in the line of duty.

Caleb’s News brings the heat with new release announcements from Crowned Heads and Davidoff, while on the whiskey side, Wilderness Trail enters the chat with three brand new expressions that have us paying very close attention.

In this episode we light up the United Gold Star 2025 and recap our Thanksgiving — from the relatives we survived to the ones we’re not inviting back — before jumping into Christmas prep and unveiling an Italian Elf on the Shelf alternative powered by tradition, superstition, and intense judgmental staring. We also discuss the rising tension between the US and Venezuela, because nothing says holiday spirit like international conflict.

Patrol Gone Wild brings us a firsthand lesson in groin vulnerability, a counter-protester with a last name you’d think we made up, and a demonstration of how efficiently German police handle traffic-blocking protestors.

In Caleb’s News, we get new releases from Principle and Tatuaje, and on the whiskey side Lasso Motel announces a special bottle that we fully expect to “buy for someone else” and then keep for ourselves.

This week the Down to Herf Podcast dives into the newly-released Viaje Vampire Dust Red — we break down the flavor profile, burn, strength dynamics, and how it stacks up against other Viaje seasonal drops. We also talk about the approaching Thanksgiving holiday, the somber passing of Jerry’s beloved Yorkie Missy, and the escalating narco-state protest tensions in Mexico.

Patrol Gone Wild this week features a thief who discovered why you don’t cut into live copper wiring, a woman who decided throwing a drink at a police officer was a wise life choice (it wasn’t), and a bizarre attempted Haitian island takeover involving recruited homeless men.

Caleb’s News brings cigar-world updates with fresh releases from Cavalier and Davidoff, and on the whiskey side a limited drop announcement from Blade and Bow rounds things out.

The Down to Herf podcast brings two special guests to the table: ESPN’s Rich Gainer and cigar-industry insider Max Bichler. We kicked things off with a little bit of everything on the sports side before sliding straight into some behind-the-scenes cigar industry talk that only Max could deliver.

Patrol Gone Wild delivered a trilogy of chaos this week a Back to the Future–style crime bust, a storage unit drug operation that unraveled fast, and a criminal who literally got lassoed into custody.

Caleb’s News closed out the show with fresh drops from Crowned Heads and Black Label Trading Co, plus a look at the newly announced Boss Hog from WhistlePig on the whiskey front.

In this week’s episode, the guys return after yes, you guessed it another YouTube ban. The crew dives into the latest election cycle madness, the chaos at airports as the shutdown strangles air travel, and the absolute circus surrounding the Bill’s collapse in Miami. No one is safe from the Herf treatment this week.

Patrol Gone Wild takes us back to Buffalo for a pair of animal encounters straight out of a zoo, and over to NYC where two dogs decided to take a bite against law enforcement.

Caleb’s News lightens the mood with cigar world updates featuring fresh drops from Espinosa and Lampert, plus a new Russell’s Reserve release that’s guaranteed to make whiskey lovers smile.

The boys dive headfirst into another wild week, starting with the Dodgers’ repeat World Series run and whether baseball is officially scripted or just allergic to parity. From there, it’s chaos in the combat world as we unpack the UFC fight-fixing scandal and how it ties right into the NBA’s latest betting drama. Add in a good old-fashioned government shutdown that’s left people without SNAP benefits, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for America’s favorite dumpster fire. To restore balance (and sanity), we close things out with our review of the Room 101 Namakubi 2025

Patrol Gone Wild brings cinematic glory this week with a car chase that ends in a pond and two taser deployments straight out of a blooper reel.

Caleb’s News wraps it up with new drops from Arturo Fuente and Bocock Brothers, plus the coldest pour on the planet — a whiskey aged in Antarctica.

This week the boys are joined by special guest Mike Dilks, founder of CopvilleOG and host of The Anti-Hero Podcast, for an unfiltered deep-dive into the state of modern law enforcement. From department culture to public perception, the crew tackles what it really means to wear the badge in today’s era.

The cigar of the week is the Mi Querida “Gorilla Gordo” from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust — a heavyweight smoke that fits the conversation perfectly.

In Patrol Gone Wild, things get weird: a brown-line bandit wreaks havoc on the NYC subway, a woman takes “resisting arrest” to a new level by biting an officer, and a Thai man’s back-seat medical clinic raises more than a few eyebrows.

Caleb’s News wraps it up with fresh cigar drops from Crowned Heads and Warped, plus a new whiskey expression from Warlander that’s sure to turn heads at the bar.
