Title: Lyrics & Lines by 'Carolus'
    Author: Unknown
    Narrator: William Ireton
    Format: Unabridged Audiobook
    Length: 1 hour 27 minutes
    Release date: December 31, 2022
    Genres: Poetry
    Publisher's Summary:
Written under the pseudonym 'Carolus', Lyrics & Lines is a book of poems written, probably circa 1890 - 1900, as a gift to one he had loved and lost. Love, Humour, Moralisation and the Macabre all come together in a most readable and enjoyable manner.   Who he was, when and exactly where he lived and his age at the time he wrote this book are unknown. That he was a modest man can be gleaned from his description of himself as '...a poetaster'.  Beautifully written; these poems should not only appeal to lovers of poetry but to those who would never normally consider reading verse.

    Length: 1 hour 14 minutes
    Release date: December 31, 2022
    Genres: Poetry
    Publisher's Summary:
'Chattering at School' is a series of animal poems that invites the reader to learn and marvel at all the wonders of the natural world. The poems include fun narratives on the surface, while containing learning and teaching moments as the poems unfold. The book has lovely illustrations and is full of moral lessons. The introduction to 'Chattering at School: Nature poems for children' explains that these poems were written by a schoolboy aged 11 to 18 (1951-58) during his annual summer holiday visits to his grandmother on her small farm in Ireland. She had been his carer and guardian from the time of the German Blitz of London where he was born, and lived with her until the war ended in 1945. He then returned to his unknown parents, who had been unable to visit him in Ireland from the UK during the war. Over 60 years later, the author of these poems - Edward Forde Hickey - discovered them (his own schoolboy attempts at writing poetry) lying in the attic and felt they were worth recording publicly.

Perhaps the most famous Christmas poem of all time, it relates the story of a father awoken from his sleep on Christmas Eve by Santa Claus - St. Nick in the poem - who lands with his sleigh and 'eight tiny reindeer' on the roof of the house, comes down the chimney and delivers toys to the family. He then departs, calling out as he flies away the famous closing line: 'Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!' A Christmas classic for two centuries, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' was claimed by author Clement C. Moore in 1837 and is presented here in its original and unabridged form.

    Publisher's Summary:
Poetry. A form of words that seems so elegantly simple in one verse and so cleverly complex in another. Each poet has a particular style, an individual and unique way with words and yet each of us seems to recognise the path and destination of where the verses lead, even if sometimes the full comprehension may be a little beyond us.Through the centuries every culture has produced verse to symbolize and to describe everything from everyday life, natural wonders, the human condition and even in its more hubristic moments, the crushing triumph of an enemy. In the volumes of this series we take a look through the prism of individual regions of the United States through the centuries and decades. The United States may be many things: the world's policeman, a bully, a shameless purveyor of mass market culture but it also, in its better moments, a standard bearer for truth, transparency, equality and the more positive qualities of democracy.Little wonder that's its poets are rightly acknowledged as wonders of their art. Leading lights in the fight against slavery and for equality, even if the rest of the Nation is finding it problematic to catch up. In this volume we have collected verse from poets born in one of the most famous cities in the World: New York. Within its five boroughs are a small universe of wonder and magic, a kaleidoscope of almost everything the planet has to offer. In past times New York was a gateway to a new land and a new future whatever the misery and tragedy of your former life. Of course, this golden vision was not attained by everyone. But our local poets, including such luminaries as Emma Lazarus, Herman Melville, Edith Wharton, Alice Duer Miller, and Alan Seeger bring vision and truth to this unrivalled city and its hallowed status in the world of verse.1 - Born in the USA.
