At the beginning of our journey through the Bible, I noted that our study is built on four foundational principles: 1) the Bible is rooted in geography; 2) the Bible emerges from history; 3) the Biblein its final finished formis a unified literary work; and 4) the Bible is the Word of God. As a unified literary work, the Christian Bible is structured as a linear narrative, with recapitulations throughout. The linear narrative of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) begins with Genesis and ends with Esther. Job is a recapitulation back to the time of Abraham; Psalms is a recapitulation to the time of David; Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Songs are a recapitulation to the time of Solomon; and the prophets are a recapitulation to the time of the kings. The story of Job is set during the time of Abrahamthe beginning of our story. Here we read that Job was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East (Job 1: 1; 3). Job has done everything God asks; yet his life is a disaster! Placed after Esther, Job calls into question everything we have learned about God in the previous books.

Perfect gift for nursing home residents. I always include one with the Christmas gifts our church supplies at our local nursing home.

It really is large print!

I bought this for my mother who is 91 years of age. She can read this easily and it is what she wanted.

Excellent Performance Matches Flawless Translation

I just finished listening to this new translation of the Gospel of John, and I must say I feel like a more enlightened person for it. As someone who has studied the original Ancient Greek of this text but has never compiled a full translation of my own, I know what a difficult task Mr. sír has undertaken.

He has produced an astonishingly emotional and meaningful translation that corrects many of the mistakes translators have been making for centuries.

It was customary for Ancient Greek writers to use words with multiple meanings and rearrange word order within a sentence as a means to convey parallel thoughts and feelings; Greek readers (or listeners) were used to these tactics, as they were part of the nature of their native language. English is not set up this way, and, not surprisingly, we don't look for the same cues within a sentence as the Greeks did. Most translators ignore this vital aspect and fail to reproduce the true essence of the original work.

Despite this cultural and linguistic obstacle, Mr. sír has provided thoughtful grammatical variation and meticulous word choice to create a reading experience in English that comes as close to Ancient Greek reading as I've ever seen. I believe that anyone who reads this wonderful translation will begin to think more deeply about the Gospel of John and its profoundly mystical style.

I thoroughly enjoyed the narration -- moderately paced and clear, but with emotion throughout.

This is an extremely important book.

Compelling and brilliant translation of the Book of John

This beautiful translation of the Book of John is truly captivating. The poetic nature of the translation and the passion with which Aesír delivers the text breathe life into the gospel which can often be dry, repetitive, and at times unclear.
