An actual good classic

I am a 31 year old man, and while I don't think anyone would consider me a "manly man", I'm also far from the type of person people would think would enjoy this book. It's the metamorphosis of a reserved typical (for the time) caterpillar of a woman who grows or "awakens" into a free spirited, ambitious, outspoken, independent woman.

The writing is awesome. In the beginning I really didn't care for the plot much but wanted to give it a try because it's considered a classic and was very controversial for the time. For about the first 30% I really wasn't excited to pick it up and read it, but every time I did, I really enjoyed reading it just because of how well it was written. Then the metamorphosis begins, and I really think there's no better word to describe the change that Kate Chopin masterfully (and I've never once used that word) portrayed. And I love reading that old-time English, but a lot of books it's so old that it's barely understandable to me. This was a perfect mix to me. It had me trying to speak like that since I've finished.

All that said, I can easily see why someone would be turned off by the plot (though not angry at it as so many seem to be) since it's very plain and simple. But if you give it a chance, the writing and the beautiful way she makes the character grow and change is well worth whatever problems you have with it.

No Wonder Men Were Horrified by This Book!

Pssstâ.Want to read a book that was so scandalous when it was published that critics vilified it as "morbid, vulgar and disagreeable"? But that's not the worst of it. Those same critics were most horrified by its amoral portrayal of adultery.

Published in 1899, this classic feminist work by Kate Chopin is now considered one of the great American novels, focusing on a woman's sudden blossoming of sexual passion as it conflicts with all the things proper society expects of her. Edna, age 28, is married with two children and living an upper class life in New Orleans with summers spent on Grand Isle. Over the course of six months, she discovers not only the power of lust and love, but also the power within herself to be an independent woman. No wonder men were horrified by this book.

Brilliant. An author before her time

What can I say about Kate Chopin that hasn't already been said more eloquently? Her writing leaps from the pages. Her characters are no mere sketches, but real people with hearts and minds and life.

Amazing Book and Narration

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The book is already really good and the narrator really makes a good job with the speed and the different voices for the different characters.

The greatest

Easily the best audio book I've ever listened to. Id never read The Godfather before, and im so glad I came to it via this medium. The narrator was a perfect choice. Loved it. Sad it's finished. Nothing else will be this good from now on.

DO NOT MISS THIS!

I love this book. I first read it back in the early 70s, and have revisited it many times since. It's also one of my all time favourite movies, Coppola clearly realising that it needed no Hollywood-style embellishment in order to make it one of the truly great movies. No sprauncy 'moviefying' for FF-C, just a simple but powerful adaptation of the novel, that stands the test of time, and brought together some of the finest screen talents Hollywood has ever produced.

I've been waiting for this to appear on Audible for a long, long time - and this year Santa brought it to my inbox! Hip-hip-hooray. I've been lost in the world of the Corleone's all over Christmas - and I've loved it!

I'm 21, this shit was crazy. But I loved it.

This blew my mind. A real challenge to get through. it took a great deal of focus. I felt like a damn Japanese katana being folded onto itself hundreds of times over. It took me much more than just 3 hours to finish "What is Man" because it's concepts are just about as dense as a singularity. and yet, if you allow yourself to actively listen, you will because truly amazed too. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to study and learn more about Mark Twain, the jesting genuine genius.

A great story

this story I had read in school and had forgotten about its author as well as its style of telling. Enjoyed both the style of retelling as well as the story.

A fascinating tale of several adventures of Hercules

This is one of the many Greek classic tales that Nathaniel Hawthorne, the great novelist of mid-nineteenth century New England retold to be enjoyed by children. It is the classic âThe Garden of Hesperides,â one of the many tales about the Greek hero Hercules, although Hawthorne adds suspense to the tale by not revealing that the hero is Hercules until part of the story has been told. It is a tale that children will enjoy.

Many people looked for the famed garden, but none found it; in fact some who went searching never returned. In this tale Hercules went searching because his cruel cousin who was the king made him do it. The difficulty was that the garden was guarded by a dragon with 100 heads and Hercules, like the others, did not know where the garden was located..

Hercules protected himself by carrying a massive club. He wore a shaggy lionâs skin from a lion he had killed.

Hercules goes through many adventures in this drama and meets many strange but interesting people, including a group of damsels with whom Hercules stays for a while and tells them some of his many adventures. He also meets âThe Old Man of the Seaâ who can change his shape at will but who doesnât want to tell Hercules where the garden is. He also meets with others such as the giant who holds up the sky.

Children will find the tale fascinating. It is a great way to introduce them to classical literature.
