    Great resource
This is the second copy of this book that I've owned. I bought the first twenty years ago, and used it enough that I wore it out. As a resource for quickly looking up a basic detail of mythology, it is unsurpassed.
    Yay!!!
I've loved this book since I was a kid!! So happy to find it!! My only gripe is that it's not on Kindle, so I can't put it in my tablet!!
    Mythology Cliff Notes
I like the cliff notes because they give me a quick way to find a reference I'm looking for. The elderly gentleman I purchased the second cliff notes for likes it very much too.
    Five Stars
Good go to book for quick reference information.

    Riepilogo Editore:

  • Just So Stories Audiobook by Rudyard Kipling
Please open https://hotaudiobook.com ONLY on your standard browser Safari, Chrome, Microsoft or Firefox to download full audiobooks of your choice for free.
    Title: Just So Stories
    Author: Rudyard Kipling
    Narrator: David Lazarus
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 14 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-08-11
    Publisher: Spoken Realms
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 5 votes
Genres: Classics, Kids & Young Adults
    Publisher's Summary:
These stories were meant to be told aloud, and the narrator David Lazarus is perfectly suited to tell these 12 tales Kipling originally told to his children over a century ago. The stories are not only entertaining, but many include a moral lesson, such as "How the Camel Got His Hump," a lesson about being lazy and procrastinating. If you have a cat, you will see him in "The Cat That Walked by Himself".
    Members Reviews:
    A wonderful classic
This is the bedtime book of my childhood. I love it, and I often refer to it. (Everybody knows a "Cat who Walks by Himself," right?) It ushered-in a lifelong love of Kipling and evocative and often amusing stories of animals and the Raj. This one was my favorite...a book of amusingly charming parables for the young and not-so-young. I also loved "The Jungle Book" and "The Second Jungle Book." Akela the wolf was my hero, and I was unendly jealous of Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves.
If you haven't read "Just So Stories," put it on your Kindle. Each story takes only a few minutes to read...I re-read them while I'm in a waiting room, using the Kindle App on my iPhone.
I was a little disappointed in this book
I was a little disappointed in this book. I bought it for a 3 year old and the illustrations are in black and white. OK for an older child but I had to look into other versions for one with color illustrations to stimulate the imagination of a 3 year old.
It is a bit annoying how the drawings were placed
It is a bit annoying how the drawings were placed, sometimes an obvious easy bump up or down a page would have left the story less broken up, but the version is decent - though remind me on my third time reading with kids to skip the crab story, no one likes it.
Great as a reading copy, not great for illustrations
This edition is a slim paperback with somewhat poor reproductions of Kipling's original art. I'd much prefer a larger, better-illustrated volume for my child.
    Classic Kipling
I read this first when I was about 7 yrs old. It's held up well except for the overt colonialism, but Kipling didn't know any better...or DID he? I've bought the same book for my 7 yr old granddaughter.

  • Children's Literature Audiobook by Seth Lerer

    Title: Children's Literature
Subtitle: A Reader's History from Aesop to Harry Potter
    Author: Seth Lerer
    Narrator: Tony Craine
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 15 hrs and 26 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-14-10
    Publisher: University Press Audiobooks
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 19 votes
Genres: Classics, Kids & Young Adults
    Publisher's Summary:
Ever since children have learned to read, there has been children's literature. Children's Literature charts the makings of the Western literary imagination from Aesop's fables to Mother Goose, from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to Peter Pan, from Where the Wild Things Are to Harry Potter. The only single-volume work to capture the rich and diverse history of children's literature in its full panorama, this extraordinary book reveals why J. R. R. Tolkein, Dr. Seuss, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Beatrix Potter, and many others, despite their divergent styles and subject matter, have all resonated with generations of readers.
Children's Literature is an exhilarating quest across centuries, continents, and genres to discover how, and why, we first fall in love with the written word. The book is published by University of Chicago Press.
    Critic Reviews:
"Lerer has accomplished something magical. Unlike the many handbooks to children's literature that synopsize, evaluate, or otherwise guide adults in the selection of materials for children, this work presents a true critical history of the genre.... Scholarly, erudite, and all but exhaustive, it is also entertaining and accessible. Lerer takes his subject seriously without making it dull." (Library Journal)

Length: 1 hr and 55 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-30-10

    Genres: Classics, Greek & Roman
    Publisher's Summary:
Aristotles Poetics is the earliest-surviving work of dramatic theory and the first fully intact philosophical treatise to focus on literary theory. In it, the respected Greek sage offers an account of what he calls "poetry" (which the Greeks understood to literally mean "making"), examining its "first principles" and identifying its genres and basic elements, including what he terms drama-comedy, tragedy, and the satyr play - as well as lyric poetry, epic poetry, and iambic pentameter, which he always associates with wit.

    poor kindle edition
Please note this review applies only to the Public Domain edition of this book for Kindle.
This Kindle edition nearly unusable. Typos occur repeatedly throughout. There is no index. Parts of the Greek are left untranslated, this is acceptable in the instances where Aristotle is trying to eludciate descisions about word choice but should include footnotes nonetheless.
Regarding only the text, "On the Art of Poetry" is a good read for those interested in Greek thought and literary criticism especially regarding drama and poetry. This should not be read specifically as a style or workshop guide for writing poetry. However, this book makes important assertions about poetry that resonate even now and may be marginally useful as a foundation to improving writing. In the very least, it elucidates where some modern conventions and expectations of the form come from. I would give the text a 4 out of 5 star vote.
This is a book for the bookish despite the fact that the Kindle edition is weak.
    Four Stars
Let's just say, we've come a long way with poetry since Aristotle.
    Aristotle: On Poetry
If you have had any training in writing at all you have already heard all about the beginning, the middle, and the end. But if you want to hear about it straight from the horse's mouth--here it is.
    great book!
It is a great book about a great subject, we are lucky for having such text available to us in our time.
