    Publisher's Summary:
The Children's Book of Christmas Stories is a wonderful assortment of 35 Christmas-themed tales chosen by editor Asa Dickinson. Authors include Charles Dickens ("Christmas at Fezziwig's Warehouse"), Hans Christian Andersen ("The Fir-Tree"), Susan Coolidge ("Toinette and the Elves"), and Elizabeth Harrison ("A Story of the Christ-Child"). Whether it is for children, or for family gatherings, everyone is sure to be captivated and enthralled!
    Editorial Reviews:
Narrator Daniel Thomas May gives an animated performance of this collection of Christmas stories beloved by children. Giving each tale its own style of narration, May's lively voice rises and falls with drama and easily holds the listener's attention.
Listeners will find themselves moved by the sentimentality brimming in quite a few of the stories, from the fir tree's sad fate in The Fir-Tree to the little star's search for someone with whom to share his light in The Christmas Star. Other stories are filled with humor, and a few have lessons on Christian morality, but all are infused with the Christmas spirit.

    Short Stories of Christmas
I purchased three of these for family members. I had read about how some families are reading Christmas stories as a countdown to Christmas! I thought what a wonderful idea! So I bought these books for the children. The stories are quite short and many of them would be too mature for toddlers. I think this book would be great for the avid preteen to teenager who loves reading! And of course any adult who enjoys reading. The stories all have morals and are well written. They are however, not your basic "Rudolph", "Frosty", or "Twas the Night Before Christmas" types of stories. You can read them in a matter of about 15-20 minutes for each story. Because they are not a continuous story or have a few chapters, I gave the book the 4 stars.
    Fun, Neat Stories
It was a fun book and I would read them to my grandkids in a heartbeat. Of course, a few of them weren't my favorites, but so what! Good reading. Oh, and I have no kids at home now, but I read them myself
    Heartwarming
I happen to like children's stories and Christmas stories, and this is a well-written collection of classic tales. They are gentle and old fashioned. A few mention feudal times, and some mention angels or spirits. Many are beautiful descriptions of nature along with Christmas kindness and love. I really enjoyed this book.
    Kids love it

    Title: The Iliad
    Author: Homer, Stephen Mitchell (translator)
    Narrator: Alfred Molina
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 16 hrs and 7 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-15-11
    Publisher: Orion Publishing Group Limited
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Classics, Greek & Roman
    Publisher's Summary:
A man seduces another's wife then kidnaps her. The husband and his brother get a gang together to steal her back and take revenge. The woman regrets being seduced and wants to escape whilst the man's entourage resent the position they have been placed in. Yet the battle lines have been drawn and there is no going back....
Not the plot of the latest Hollywood thriller, but the basis of The Iliad - the Greek classic that details the war between the Greeks and the Trojans after the kidnapping of Helen of Sparta. Based on the superb M.L. West edition of the Greek, this Iliad is more readable and moving than any previous version. Thanks to the scholarship and poetic power of the highly acclaimed Stephen Mitchell, this new translation recreates the energy and simplicity, the speed, grace, and continual thrust and pull of the original.
Book 10, recognized since ancient times as a later addition to the Iliad, has been omitted in this translation.
    Members Reviews:
    Brilliant
First impression of this audio book is Alfred Molena's butter smooth voice and British accent. It is simply and beautifully read and an absolute pleasure to listen to. This is my first encounter with the Illiad so I can't compare the translation, but found it thoroughly accessible and engaging. As for the story itself, in a word, gruelling. Not in a negative way but this is, if you like, 'R rated' reading for the violence. But the macchinations and quarrels of gods and men are intriguing and Homer's use of imagery is delightful.
    Tedious Brilliance
Would you try another book written by Homer and Stephen Mitchell (translator) or narrated by Alfred Molina?
Stephen Mitchell, Yes, Homer, not so much. Alfred Molina was delightful.
Would you ever listen to anything by Homer and Stephen Mitchell (translator) again?
Stephen Mitchell's translations of the Bhagavad Gita and the Tao Te Ching are amongst my most prized possessions. I would read a shopping list by Mitchell, and bought this book on the strength of that. Unfortunately, whilst the text was beautifully written, I found the fighting and mayhem tedious. It was like a Shoot-em-up movie's car chase that just went on and on and on, and you find yourself going off to the fridge to get another beer. It could handle a good abridging, I suppose. Then again, parts of the story were most touching and wonderful.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Probably the various scenes of the gods discussing the battle and their strategies. Moments of reflection on the part of Achilles were also wonderfully written.
Do you think The Iliad needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I think Homer did that with the Odyssey, didn't he?
    Any additional comments?
I was in equal parts delighted and bored stiff. It was the best of books, it was the worst of books. I accept that that is probably just a poor reflection on my cultural development, but there you go. Joe Ordinary, beware.
Brilliant intro; Fab translation; Great reader
A wonderful translation of Homer's epic poem read by Alfred Molina, but for me the best thing was translator Stephen Mitchell's long introduction on what makes this book such a Classic. Inspirational!
A wonderful modern translation and performnce
What made the experience of listening to The Iliad the most enjoyable?
The introduction was excellent. The modern translation was stunning and allowed the original poetry to shine through.

One of my favourite childhood storybooks
It kept me company through many a long car journey on our way to rainy holidays in Ireland.
    Very entertaining
What did you like most about Odysseus II: The Journey Through Hell?
It kept my 14yr old stepdaughter involved - she has to read this for an exam but is dyslexic and struggling with the translation. I've been listening with her and enjoying it, I don't know how close it is to the original but am hoping that she will get the story line and it will be a good start. Very well done, great to see a classic treated with humour
What was one of the most memorable moments of Odysseus II: The Journey Through Hell?
Odysseus pretending to be a sheep
What about Tony Robinson and Richard Curtis s performance did you like?
The voices, the sense of fun

    An old favourite
If you could sum up Odysseus: The Greatest Hero of them All in three words, what would they be?
Great story for children and adults alike! A classic.
What does Tony Robinson bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Tony Robinson is one of my favourite narrators, up there with Steven Fry and the greats.
New Take on an Old Classic
It was just wonderful to listen to Tony Robinson spin this yarn with a more modern slant. He must have left his script at home, knew the basic storyline and decided to tell us the story anyway. I couldn't turn it off.
    Still loving it!
I remember borrowing this as a cassette tape from my local library when I was a kid. It was so enjoyable back then and it is just as great now. It gave me my first interest in Greek mythology. I really recommend it for parents wishing to give a child an educational and entertaining story. The authors are really creative in this re-telling of the fall of Troy and Tony Robinson does a fantastic job of making the story both funny and meaningful.
A fantastic introduction to Greek Mythology
I read this book as a child and was thrilled to find it on Audible. I have now passed it on to my daughter and I hope she gets as much enjoyment from it as I did. This book spawned my love of Greek Mythology. Tony Robinson is a genius! Fantastic!
Greatest Audio book of them all
I was thrilled to find this wonderfully narrated story from my childhood on audible.
Tony Robinson and Richard curtis put their own wonderful humour into the timeless tale of Homer's Illiad. A must listen for every young boy on a long car journey, with enough entertainment to keep all ears glued to the stereo.
    Worth every penny.

Though these marvelous tales were written in Victorian times, they are still worthy of being read and enjoyed by todays youngsters. Fantasy is currently very popular with young readers, and here are stories in this genre that are truly excellent. (Childrens Literature)

    Contents
I had a hard time deciding which edition of The Jungle Book to purchase. The piece of information missing from most every item description was the actual contents of the recording. A survey of the unabridged versions of both Jungle Books I & II yields vastly disparate running times. To assist the discerning shopper, allow me to confirm that this edition (Blackstone Audio - running time 11h 8m) is the complete compilation of all of the stories and poems of The Jungle Books (1 & 2), from "Night Song in the Jungle", the prelude to "Mowgli's Brothers", to "The Outsong", the postlude to "The Spring Running", and everything in between.
    Excellent reading of classic tales
I really enjoyed Ralph Cosham's narration. He does the voice of Bagheera so well, and it's different from Baloo or Mowgli. One note - this recording includes for the First and Second Jungle book. The Second Jungle Book, also narrated by Cosham, is available separately but I don't think you'd need it.
I was totally entranced for hours
What did you love best about The Jungle Book I & II?
I buy a bunch of audiobooks for my kids, but don't usually listen to them - I prefer reading my books myself. I started listening to this version of the Jungle Book to see the difference between it and the previous version I bought, and got totally sucked in. I listened to the story for hours after the kids were in bed, and was completely captivated the whole time. I love Ralph Cosham's narration, it's not distracting to me the way that a lot of audiobook narrators are and he does a good job of differentiating the characters without getting campy.
    Unabridged!
I really enjoyed/am enjoying this book. Ralph Cosham does a very good job with the voices and - an unabridged taping of all of The Jungle Book, plus the short stories! So exciting! I listened to The Jungle Book I and II, when I was young. We went from tapes to CDs to Audible. :)
For those of you looking for a story similar to the Disney story of the same name, this is not it. Not even close. This book is the original story written by Kipling. A wolf family saves a baby human from the dangerous tiger, Sher Kan. The story follows the wolf clan, Mowgli, Balu, and Bageera as the years pass. There are several adventures compiled together to create The Jungle Book.
It is raw, emotional, and at times, sad. Not a happy ever after story.

Length: 7 hrs and 36 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-24-11
    Publisher: Naxos AudioBooks
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 7 votes
    Genres: Classics, Greek & Roman
    Publisher's Summary:
Plutarchs series of biographies was the first of its kind, as much ground breaking in conception as Herodotus was with his Histories. Plutarch looked at the great men of the Ancient World and told their stories, in many cases drawing on sources no longer available to us. They offer a unique insight into the characters as well as the achievements of men who influenced their age and the empires that their culture dominated. They are as accessible now as they were when they were first written. It is the companion volume to Roman Lives, also read with style by Nicholas Farrell on Naxos AudioBooks.
    Editorial Reviews:
Nicholas Farrell reads with grace and gravitas this ancient account of Greek figures. Plutarch, a Greek writer of the first and early second centuries C.E., authored Parallel Lives of Greek and Romans, containing 46 biographical portraits of significant Greeks and Romans. This audiobook presents lives of eight prominent Greeks (Lycurgus, Themistocles, Pericles, Alcibiades, Lysander, Alexander, Demosthenes, and Pyrrhus) in chronological order. The text is formal as it is an 1864 revision of an English translation from the 1780s, but Farrell handles it well, never faltering on rarely used words and unfamiliar syntax.

    Release date: 06-07-11
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 11 votes
    Genres: Classics, Greek & Roman
    Publisher's Summary:
Ancient myths link students to a powerful cultural history. Bulfinch captures these fables in one graceful, lyrical collection which has been a standard reference for over 140 years. Part One includes the tales of Prometheus, Hercules, and Ulysses. Part Two includes Aeneas, Thor, Beowulf, and other heroes.
    Editorial Reviews:
Narrator George Guidall provides a splendid narration of this two-part classic reference work. In Part 2, Guidall offers further stories from the Golden Age, before turning to Eastern mythology, Norse mythology, and the Druids. Guidall is remarkable with womens voices, softening his natural timbre just enough to create the necessary illusion. Although Bulfinch treats Eastern mythology and Norse mythology with informative explanations rather than traditional storytelling, Guidall still manages to engage by recounting the accounts of Prester John, Beowulf, Thor, and the Nibelungen Lied. Guidall turns this into a must-have audio experience for anyone wishing to understand our cultural iconography.
