Did I buy an audio book or a guitar performance?

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Did I buy an audio book or a flamenco guitar performance recording? Notwithstanding the technical prowess of the guitar player, its constant interruption of the story made the listen an unbearable and strident discourse. so much so, that I could not get past the first 2 or 3 chapters... (I kept hoping it would improve, but Alas... it did not) In fact, I tried to get through the book by skipping the guitar passages... not to be... you want book... you get guitar... period...

What could Juan Ramón Jiménez have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

A book reading... period... keep the guitar OUT... OR HAVE IT BE OPTIONAL.

YES!!! I HAVE THE PRINTED VERSION... NO PROBLEM... NICE BOOK... NICE STORY... LOVE THE TOPIC.

A true classic

One of the greatest classics of the Portuguese language literature, hands down a must read. I'm not going to go into the work itself, it has been out there for over one hundred years. I'm going to focus on the digital edition, that is great, very well formated. I noticed a few glitches, like what looks like the page numbers of a book it might have been scanned from, but overall it is fine. Kudos to the editing crew.

I loved the story telling.. this book is a life changer to me it shouts to me that everything is about perspectives and it all depends where you are seeing it from.. so you be your own decision maker..

Wonderfully written

Wonderfully scripted and each character has been carefully given right dialogue. Appreciate the effort taken.

One the best stories ever!

Anand is a phenomenal writer and perhaps one of the most captivating writers I have ever read.

The phrases, prose, plots have been woven beautifully with not a moment of drag. Simpler explanations than those mentioned in the Ramayana of how the events might have actually transpired are just fabulously drawn and sound believable. He should write more. He is way ahead of Amish Tripathi in his command on language.

Sanket, the narrator, is incredibly talented. I had never expected it honestly but if the novel sounded good to the ears it was due to the amazing characterisation by Sanket. If there is any award for Narrators then Sanket has earned it without doubt. Initially I was amused with dramatics but later it became an integral part of this experience. Mind blowing performance and deep understanding of characters. Keep it up!

The story is timeless and well known but this novel uses the other part of the story i.e. Of the defeated and it does it convincingly well. Let me warn you that the novel can be extremely disturbing if you cannot suspend your faith and belief and let the writer have a chance to say his part. The characterisation is beautiful and mesmerising and very deeply developed rather than the simple ideas we have of these timeless heroes.

You will hate, loathe, ridicule, laugh and cry for Ravana and Bhadra. You might question the divinity of many established heroes once you start calling a spade a spade. The parallels with our current society has been injected in the book and the Aryan Invasion Theory along with the British Raj and the Modern Western Liberalism has been used to provide the political undertones to the novel. Casteism has been rightly denounced but a lot of Brahman blaming is there too.

mythology

This was my first exposure to the odyssey and I found it very interesting mythology in the way that creatures mingled with the gods almost as equals though there was always the possibility of annihilation at their hands. The gods were to be feared precisely because they were so wilful and unpredictable. I thought the reader performed very well

but I would not like him to perform EVERY story in the same way. I would hope for more EXPRESSION in other works, though the style suited The Odyssey

"Apology" here has its earlier meaning of speaking in defense of a cause or of one's beliefs or actions. The general term apology, in context to literature, defends a world from attack (opposite of satire-which attacks the world).

The text is written in the first person from Socrates' point of view, as though it were Socrates' actual speech at the trial. During the course of the speech, Socrates twice mentions Plato as being present. There is, however, no real way of knowing how closely Socrates' words in the Apology match those of Socrates at the actual trial, even if it was Plato's intention to be accurate in this respect.

An excellent first text for students of ancient Greek

This is an excellent edition of a text that works well as a first reading experience for beginning students of ancient Greek. The vocabulary at the back is especially easy to use. The notes are helpful and put the student 'in the picture' as far as the ancient context goes. My students who have completed a course like Hansen and Quinn's elementary Greek course have used this book with profit.
